Research Ethics Committee of the University of Tartu

The University of Tartu Research Ethics Committee assesses the ethical and data protection aspects of studies on humans and animals. This applies to research projects related to biomedicine as well as behavioural and social sciences. 

The committee is an independent body of experts aiming to ensure that the health, human dignity, identity, security of person and other fundamental rights and freedoms of the subjects of research projects are protected.

Apart from the University of Tartu Research Ethics Committee, also the Research Ethics Committee of the National Institute for Health Development operates in Estonia. The application for a research project can be submitted to either of the two.

Before submitting any documents to the Ethics Committee, please review the requirements below:

The deadline ends at 16:00.

Maximum 30 applications will be proceeded during a committee meeting. The applications will be included to meeting documents in the order in which they have been submitted. The applications exceeding this amount will be processed in the next committee meeting.

Documents with the hand-written signatures on paper should be submitted by post.
The language of the application form is Estonian.


 

Statute of the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Tartu (updated 2011)

From 31 January  2022, only one ethics committee in Estonia will carry out ethical evaluations of clinical trials of medicinal products for human use. The committee is subordinated to the State Agency of Medicines.
