After the original V.E.N.O.M. vehicles were destroyed, M.A.S.K. #10 the new Commander of the reborn Cobra had Scrap-Iron rebuild and upgrade them with the ability to combine into King Cobra to win the vehicles' pilots over to her side.

When G.I. Joe began pushing back against the V.E.N.O.M. agents' attempts at raiding the museums of New York City far more effectively than they had in their last encounter in St. Petersburg, Ice Queen called out to her teammates to form King Cobra as a last resort. G.I. Joe: First Strike While the mighty mech was able to overwhelm the Joes with it's sheer strength and size for a time, the three pilots' inability to get along and work as a team hindered their effectiveness. After this was pointed out to him by Doc, Shipwreck put together a plan that culminated in Skywarp grabbing the mech and holding it still so Gung-Ho could grappling hook inside and disable it from within. Ultimately though, the King Cobra served its purpose, creating enough of a distraction that the Joes were unable to stop Firefly and Storm Shadow from stealing the artifact Cobra was after.
