G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers
Gung-Ho watched Quick Kick, Roadblock, and Snake-Eyes do some recreational sparring with each other. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #2 He was later shot by Laserbeak while defending the SPS Research Facility from Cobra, but survived and was later able to ride in Wheeljack. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #3
Two years later, Gung-Ho participated in an attack on a Cobra facility in Boston, only to be teleported to Cybertron when Cobra's wormhole equipment malfunctioned. On the alien planet, Ultra Magnus and Perceptor informed the humans that they had to retrieve a number of Transformers scattered throughout Earth's timeline, or else their planet would face destruction. Gung-Ho, Shipwreck, Dusty and a Cobra Viper made up one of the teams tasked with saving the world. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II #1 They ended up on prehistoric Earth, where they located the five Dinobots and brought them back to the present. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II #4
Transformers/G.I. Joe
After G.I. Joe pinpointed that Cobra's east coast smuggling was originating from a facility in New York City, Gung-Ho was among the Joes who attacked the place. Targets of Opportunity
Transformers vs. G.I. Joe
Gung-Ho was part of a Joe strike force. Their mission: to raid the town of Springfield, secretly a Cobra hide-out. He tried to take on both Tomax and Xamot on his own, using a move he learned from Roadblock, but the twins overpowered him. A copter full of Joes came to his rescue, despite his insistence that he had the situation under control on his own, and together they apprehended the Cobra agents in the town. He was later deployed on the Joes' subsequent mission; to travel to and infiltrate the planet Cybertron, its inhabitants having proved themselves hostile. I Saw Three Ships
After an attack against the Decepticon city of Trypticon ended with the Joes on the run, they regrouped at Green Zone 0-8-6, their temporary camp on the hostile alien planet. There, Gung-Ho was already busy setting up equipment for their defensive perimeter. Targetmasters
After Wheeljack was ensnared in one of the base's perimeter traps, Gung-Ho assisted his fellow Joes in vivisecting the Cybertronian. The operation was tabled just in time for Wheeljack's friends to burst in on the scene and launch an offensive against the Joes. The humans returned fire, until blasts from both sides rendered all combatants unconscious. Funeral for a Friend
Both teams eventually awakened and readied to take up arms once more when Grimlock showed up, accompanied by Breaker, Jinx, Cover Girl and Clutch. Grimlock declared a truce between the Joes and the Autobots had been reached, and both factions partied together to cement their alliance. Form Follows Function The Joes then set up camp within the Autobots' mobile city, Metroplex. Gung-Ho went the extra mile to show his solidarity towards his new allies by getting Cutter to tattoo him with an Autobot sigil on his left arm. As Cutter finished up his work, the Decepticobra alliance launched an attack on Metroplex. As the bulk of the Autobots and Joes fought back, Gung Ho accompanied an infiltration team that entered Fortress Maximus to rescue the captured U.S.7. The animals acted feral when the Joes came upon them due to being influenced by Blackarachnia, but once she was taken care of, they returned to their normal selves. Gung Ho and his newly expanded team then made their way to Fortress Maximus's head module as the titan tangled with the Decepticons' own living city, Trypticon. Maximus's head detached itself, transformed into the smaller robot Cerebros, and allowed the troops within it to storm Megatron's throne room within Trypticon. The leader of the Decepticons was ready for them though, and Gung-Ho was captured and put into a holding cell. Everybody Hates Metroplex
Lacking any skills Decepticobra found useful, Gung-Ho was shipped off to the Polyhex Killway to fight for Megatron's amusement. With his body under remote-control, he had no choice but to duel against his fellow captive, Inferno.Expelled from the Garden Gung-Ho was afterwards shipped off to another Springfield, this one built into the back of the giant Scorponok. After being brainwashed by "Dr. Mindelbender," Gung-Ho became convinced that none of his past adventures with G.I. Joe had ever happened; instead, he was just a normal suburbanite. But Scarlett, imprisoned alongside him, managed to hold on to the truth. She roused Gung-Ho and the other Joes out of their hypnotized states, and together they rounded up the Autobots held in Springfield with them. The Cybertronians had been rendered dormant in their vehicle modes, which the Joes used to bust their way out of Scorponok. Once outside, the effects of Dr. Mindelbender's brainwashing on everyone vanished completely. Headmasters While the Joes had been inside Scorponok, Optimus Prime had returned to Cybertron to liberate his people. Gung-Ho witnessed Prime be slain by Megatron, and subsequently plummet down into the bowels of Cybertron. Pax Megatronus

Sitting down with Cover Girl and Lady Jaye in the Lemuria's mess hall, Gung-Ho begged Scarlett to do something about the lack of meat being served on board the ship. While Scarlett couldn't change Shipwreck's environmentally friendly menu, she did have a mission for him and Jaye: going undercover as a pair of backpacking lovers to infiltrate a group of anarchists in Athens, Greece. G.I. Joe vol. 5 #1 As they arrived at the meeting for the anarchists, Gung-Ho worried that he stuck out too much, though Jaye assured him he was just feeling weird because he was wearing a shirt for once. As the leader of the anarchists revealed that they were organizing under the symbol of the (supposedly) defunct Cobra, Gung-Ho assumed that they were just trying to get a rise out of people and didn't have any actual ties to the organization but Jaye felt there was something deeper going on. Calling in a report to Scarlett, Gung-Ho shared his feelings on their use of the symbol with his commander but she agreed with Jaye that they shouldn't take something involving Cobra lightly. G.I. Joe vol. 5 #2
At the next meeting, Gung-Ho and Jaye were given cloaks that bore the logo of Cobra. As the anarchist leader spoke in serpentine metaphors, he revealed that not only was he appropriating the symbols of Cobra, but he and several other members of the group were Dire Wraiths as well! He then revealed that he was aware of Gung-Ho and Jaye's infiltration and sicced the other anarchists on them. With their cover blown, Gung-Ho was now free to rip that pesky, restricting shirt off and fight back against the enthralled Greeks. G.I. Joe vol. 5 #3 Though the anarchists were no match for Gung-Ho, the Wraiths were a bit more troublesome. As they fired off their mouth lasers at Lady Jaye, Gung-Ho dove between them and took the hit. Shortly thereafter, the back up Lady Jaye had called in for arrived in the form of Helix and Snake Eyes, who took out the Wraiths before helping them escape from the burning building. G.I. Joe vol. 5 #4
Back at the Lemuria, Gung-Ho attended an all hands meeting regarding the giant monsters that had begun emerging from beneath the earth. G.I. Joe vol. 5 #5
When the reborn Cobra began raiding several museums in St. Petersburg, Gung-Ho was among the hastily chosen Joes selected by interim commander Shipwreck to counter them. Joining Shipwreck in the Silver Mirage, Gung-Ho fired upon Ice Queen and Stiletto from the motorcycle's side car until the two V.E.N.O.M. agents used their transforming vehicles to get away. After that embarrassing display, Shipwreck refined his team and kept Gung-Ho on, feeling that his size and strength would come in handy. To bolster those assets, Shipwreck also had Grand Slam construct a pair of super powerful, technologically enhanced brass knuckles for Gung-Ho. As V.E.N.O.M. returned to attack another museum in New York City, Gung-Ho used these knucks to take on Thunderflame and his Rhino, charging right at the rampaging semi truck and knocking it into a nearby building with a single punch. G.I. Joe: First Strike After V.E.N.O.M.'s vehicles combined into the gigantic King Cobra, Gung-Ho began trying to wrangle it like he had countless snakes back home but ended up getting flung from it's tail into Central Park. As the serpentine mech made its way over to the park, Gung-Ho grabbed back on and began fighting back again until Shipwreck gave him more specific orders to take his grappling hook and use it to climb inside the hole Salvo had burned through the mech's armor and take it down from the inside. After sharing a congratulatory chest bump with his commander and returning to the Lemuria, Gung-Ho placated Shipwreck's rage at finding out Dial-Tone had ordered real beef in his absence by giving him a pea-protein burger instead.
