Badda bing badda boom.

Know a slob that needs to be bumped off? A stool-pigeon in need of a new pair of concrete tennis shoes? A school bus full of French orphans that are just asking for it? The Crossformers (クロスフォーマー Kurosufōmā) will do the deed, so long as the price is right. These villainous space gangsters are as unscrupulous as they are deadly, and unlike Earth gangsters, can't be distracted with pasta.

Hellbat crossformers.jpg

Black Shadow and his partner, Blue Bacchus, were hired by Hellbat of the Breastforce to help him loot Planet Micro of all its energon. While the Crossformers caused massive panic and destruction, Hellbat got a clear run at the energy reserves. The incredible size and power of the Crossformers, especially on a world full of Micromasters, made their mission relatively easy, until Star Saber arrived. While Saber engaged Hellbat, Black Shadow and Blue Bacchus were forced to contend with their former partner in crime, Greatshot, who had reformed and joined the Autobots. Although they battled fiercely, his six modes were ultimately better than their two, and the Crossformers were critically damaged. Forced to abandon their outer forms, they blasted out into space in their inner vehicle modes. Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior

A resident of Axiom Nexus, Black Shadow was hired to assassinate Gutcruncher, who was stirring up the Offworlder population for a revolt against the TransTechs. He framed Hubcap and Jackpot for the murder, and then tried to kill them as well in order to collect the bounty placed on them. However, the two Autobots recorded his villainous gloating and revealed the truth to Gutcruncher's followers, who killed the Crossformer. Gone Too Far

Black Shadow
Released as part of the Japanese Victory series, the two Crossformers are retools of two of the Hasbro Mega Pretenders; Black Shadow uses the Thunderwing mold, while Blue Bacchus is made from Crossblades. While their inner robot molds are unchanged, the outer shells' chest and head parts were altered to make them robotic rather than organic-looking.
The molds' functionality remains intact; each shell can carry the inner robot, as well as transform into a vehicle on its own. The inner robots' vehicle modes can also attach to the shells' vehicle modes to create super-vehicles.

Notes

  • In Japanese, Black Shadow's function reads "Uchū Gyangu" (宇宙ギャング), which translates to "Space Gangster". The common misconception that he is a member of the "Space Mafia" is due to a mistranslation some years ago in which "gangster" was interpreted as "Mafia". Big difference.
  • The Crossformers' ID numbers are actually a huge jump backwards in the numbering system. The other Victory Decepticons' numbers start at D-322. However, Shadow and Bacchus' numbers put them right in the middle of the Super-God Masterforce Decepticons' numbers, between 1988's Browning and BlackZarak, even though the Crossformers were released in 1989.
