MADRID, March 6. /TASS/. Most European countries do not want to join a hypothetical future coalition that envisages sending troops to Ukraine without the participation of the US, Spain’s El Pais reported.
According to the newspaper, France and the UK are promoting the idea of creating a coalition that would contribute to Ukraine's security. "The future security architecture of Ukraine still depends on the US," El Pais said. "Most European countries do not want to join the future coalition unless Washington is involved in some way," the newspaper pointed out.
El Pais also said that the EU is studying the possibility of using the tools of the Common Security and Defense Policy, which includes patrolling operations, missions to strengthen national security and the deployment of military forces under the European flag.
Bloomberg earlier reported that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are preparing to present to US leader Donald Trump the coalition ‘Europe Plus,’ which will include countries that are ready to provide Ukraine with long-term military support, presumably after the peace agreement. The support would hypothetically include sending "peacekeeping forces" to Ukraine.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said in response to a TASS question that Moscow had a negative attitude to the idea of sending European "peacekeepers" to Ukraine. According to him, this is a step towards escalation.
