Pathways to retirement in Germany The German public pension system provides different types of pensions depending on different prerequisites. In addition to retirement at the statutory retirement age of 65 and the pension for women there exist several other options to retire before the statutory retirement age: for people with a severe disability12, for people with long service records, and for people who were unemployed or following old-age part-time. In Table 11 the different options and the requirements for eligibility are described.
