Vomiting shortly after taking pills—fish it out & take it again?

If you vomit anywhere from five to 30 minutes after taking pills, should you take them again, either by fishing them out or simply re-dosing, or wait until the next dose? Does this calculus change if the (non-sublingual) medication is for nausea? Or perhaps it's an extended release formulation? What if it's expensive, or otherwise hard to get, such as ADHD meds? Are there any general guidelines, e.g., based on pill form factor, dosing schedule, medication type? Doctors have not been terribly helpful with this question.

Food Poisoning and Getting to Urgent Care

I think I have moderate salmonella poisoning and have spent the last hour and a half trying to stabilize my stomach and bowel. I may need to get myself to an urgent care center or an ER. If I call an ambulance, how will the EMTs handle me having ongoing, simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea? Writing this during a brief reprieve and am embarrassed by the prospect of losing my dignity.

Tests and conditions to consider for recurrent nausea/vomiting

My 60 year old mother is having nausea after almost every meal and 5-7 day bouts of vomiting every few months. She sees a new GI next week, but this hasn’t been taken seriously in the past. YANHD, but can you help me make a list of tests she should ask about and conditions they should try to rule out? [more inside]

Why am I physically unable to vomit?

What would cause an otherwise healthy person to be physically unable to vomit? I recently had a bout of stomach flu. Despite retching for hours and having enough to bring up, I couldn't vomit. This has happened to me every time I've needed to throw up: I retch and retch, but nothing comes up. Not a positional issue, as I tried sitting / standing / bending in all different configurations. Suspect I have GERD or heartburn, which may or may not be relevant. No other physical issues.

I know, I know, it's cereus

Is there somehow less of a problem with Bacillus cereus in Japanese rice? I often see remarks like this one about not refrigerating onigiri, and about leaving rice in the rice cooker for hours if not days and continuing to eat it. The worst food poisoning I have ever had was from B. cereus, so I am hypersensitive to rice preparation and storage. [more inside]

There's no way to make inevitable vomiting more pleasant, is there?

When I get a migraine, it is accompanied by nausea, vertigo, and vomiting. But usually I have some time at the onset of the migraine before the barfing commences, and I was wondering if there was something I could consume (food, beverage) in this window of time that would make the inevitable reversal of fortune less unpleasant on my throat. NAC makes me vomit

I'm in a research trial testing if N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC - an antioxidant) has a beneficial effect on mood (etc.) I started taking the NAC last night (on an empty stomach), and vomited twice upon awakening. I just had another dose, with lunch, and vomited again. I feel fine apart from this, and I read that NAC can cause nausea / vomiting. Should I keep on trucking, i.e., will my body get used to the substance? The research clinic is closed until second week of Jan! [more inside]
