Abuse Tax

I recently learned of Use Tax. The use tax I learned about is a little different than that defined above in that it is a small town enforcing a tax on goods purchased elsewhere, even though a sales tax is applied in the other location. I am flabbergasted that this is legal. Has there ever been any legal challenges to this? [more inside]

Woodsy, beautiful getaway within driving distance of Denver Airport?

My sister and I live on opposite ends of the country and want to meet halfway for a sisters weekend. We have very fond memories of Colorado from a long ago family vacation, and have booked our flights to Denver ... only to realize neither of us knows squat about the area. Also, due to schedule wackiness, we're going over the 4th of July weekend. Whoof! [more inside]

Colorado Rockies in May

We're considering visiting Colorado in late May, flying into Denver. We'd like to experience the Rockies, in a relatively chill way (driving, short hikes, no back country stuff). I'm looking for generic advice about conditions at that time of year (will late spring conditions affect our ability to do certain things/go certain places?), and for specific recommendations of things to do and places to stay. We're willing to drive a few hours from Denver, probably not more than four unless there's something really worth experiencing that's farther. Thanks!

Is there any decent Mexican food in Denver area?

So far I've tried three random places that ranged from "actively terrible," to "oddly bland." It doesn't have to duplicate Tex-Mex I'm used to (I like California Mex and am open to varied ingredients) but it should have flavor beyond "we threw some hot-ass peppers on top of otherwise flavorless ingredients." Road trip to Colorado - Safe to take Winter tires off at this point?

Travelling to Copper Mountain, CO this weekend from Utah. I have to take my car in for an oil change tomorrow anyway, and wasn't sure if moving back to all seasons at this point would be ok. It'd be more cost efficient to get done now and would rather not but 13 hours travel on my winter tires if I can avoid it - but if I-70 is still dicey at times I'll keep them on and not be a burden to my fellow drivers. How to prepare myself physically for a road trip vacation to Colorado

The last time I went to Colorado for a vacation, I had horrible headaches from the altitude. This summer we're going again and I’d like to avoid those if there’s a way to do that. I would also like to have more athletic stamina for hiking at a high elevation. So I have a two-part question: what can I do now to prepare myself so that I minimize headaches from the altitude and that I’ll be ready to hike? Can this condo be eligible for FHA?

I love a condo in Denver. My Realtor and mortgage broker both say it's not approved, so no way I can make an offer. The building has not received approval, because "the market is strong" and they won't deal with the process. At this price, the only mortgage I'll qualify for is FHA. Is this correct? Other people have said I can apply on my own, not disclosing my type of mortgage in the offer. So confused! Any advice is much appreciated.
