Best 8” extra long twin mattress?

I am buying a trundle that is an extra-long twin on top and a regular twin below. They can be popped up to be level with each other. I need 8” mattresses, but it is hard to find ones that have good reviews. Have you found a 8” extra long twin that was comfortable for an adult?

Cheap but not cheap-looking platform beds

I wanted to buy a Thuma or something from Tatami Room but finances will not permit at this point, I don't think. Both are in the 1K-1400 range. I see a ton of platform beds on Amazon that both are cheap and look cheap, and I hate the ones at Ikea. Any suggestions?

Height of a bed?

I desperately need a new bed. I do not want a box spring - definitely want a frame and a mattress. But with beds without a box spring, I realized that a lot of them end up being fairly low to the ground. What are the benefits to having a lower bed vs. a higher bed, or a higher bed vs. a lower bed? How does one choose to go higher or lower? What are your preferences, and why?

"mattress-in-a-box" dimensions

I ordered one of those rolled-up, expandable mattresses (queen) from Amazon, and in its still rolled-up state, it measures 40" wide. Amazon verified that the product sent was a queen size (60"): would you expect that, once unrolled and expanded, it would become 60" wide? If I open and expand it, and it's still too narrow, I will not be able to send it back (cost-prohibitive at best).

staying cool at night part 2

I have sleep issues and sleep much much better when it's about 55 degrees in my room. To help with mental and physical health I really want to prioritize creating the right conditions for good sleep, but 55 degrees or even 60 is not practical or even always doable in the summer. My last thread was asking about cooling blankets, but this one is a more open-ended request for experiences with options beyond fans or cranking the A/C, like Chilipad, BedJet, water-cooled systems from random brands on Amazon, etc.

What's the deal with the beds in Unorthodox?

I watched all of Unorthodox on Netflix last night and have spent the day chasing down explanations for the Hasidic practices represented in the show. The one I can't find anything on is Yanky and Esty's beds. Is this real--a matching set of headboards, but a bigger one for the man? I've never heard of such a thing.

Sturdy bed frame for under $500: is it possible?

I am in the market for a queen bed frame. Under $500, has a headboard, and supports two non-ace adults (500lbs?) and all the activities that entails. I won't be using a box spring so I guess it will have to use slats or a bunkie board (?). No upholstery on account of having cats. I'll be putting it on risers. Is this possible? Do you have recommendations? More details within. [more inside]

Is it worth getting a bigger bed size than a 4 foot 6 inch width bed?

So I have problems with sleep (non-restorative) and my wife has issues with her sleep too (not sure what, she just doesn't sleep well). We currently have a double bed (4 foot 6 inches wide and 6 foot 3 inches long), but have to sleep in separate rooms because we sleep so badly next to one another. (I talk in my sleep, she snores and she's also like a heater that's been turned on full and had the knob broken off.) - more inside [more inside]

Best place to buy a standalone headboard / footboard for a bed?

They sell them at Ikea, but only for queen size beds (I have a full/double). Amazon has a fairly limited selection, as does Wayfair, but I'm interested in hopefully getting something delivered in the next few days. I cannot find footboards or standalone headboard/footboard sets anywhere.

Our bed groans louder than we ever could

We have a magically wonderful queen-sized pillow top mattress and box springs which we love. But the basic metal frame underneath is relentlessly noisy, making every shift of weight, every instance of us getting up or lying down into a series of creaks and squeaks that can be heard all through the house. Worst of all, it's not even possible to have sexytime without the whole house hearing the bed. We need a quieter bed and could use some advice. [more inside]

How can I sleep cooler at night?

I sleep hot. My body creates a lot of heat at night, which is good for me but bad for my partners. My ex-wife used to complain, and my current girlfriend doesn't enjoy cuddling because I'm warm and often sweaty. I sleep hotter when I drink alcohol, I know that, and memory foam seems to be a problem (so I'm replacing my memory foam mattress with an expensive mattress that's supposed to be cooler). What other things can I do to be cooler at night? I want my girlfriend to cuddle more!

Good folding/rollaway bed?

We'd like my wife's 89-year-old mother to be able to stay with us once in a while, which involves making her as comfortable as possible. Our double-bed futon is very comfortable, but it's in the living room and won't fit in the downstairs study/office, so she has no privacy when she sleeps there. We're thinking of getting a single bed to put in the study, but we don't really want to rearrange everything and have a bed taking up half the room in there for a few visits a year, so ideally it would be something we can put away when not in use. But it has to be comfortable (good mattress) and well built and not excessively expensive. Suggestions?

Non-bunching mattress pad

Looking for a mattress pad that doesn't move around and bunch up. I've spent a lot of money on them, and they all seem to want to migrate as soon as we crawl into bed. They look like they fit when I put them on and pull them tight, but as soon as we get in and roll over even once, there's all sorts of ridges and bumps. I'm talking about the kind of mattress pad that goes on like a fitted sheet. Would the flat kind of pad with straps be better? We like the softness of knit sheets, and I'm wondering whether there's a "Velcro effect" between the sheets and the pad. Would regular cotton sheets slide over the pad and not make it bunch up?
