Boards and Commissions

MDP is involved in many boards, commissions, task forces, and associations. In many cases, the department is the staffing agency. ​


Governor's Smart Growth Subcabinet

The Smart Growth Subcabinet helps implement Smart Growth Policy, recommending to the Governor changes in State law, regulations, and procedures needed to support the Policy. The Subcabinet works to create, enhance, support, and revitalize sustainable communities across Maryland.​

Accessory Dwelling Unit Policy Task Force

During the 2023 session, the Maryland General Assembly passed SB 382, which established the Accessory Dwelling Unit Policy Task Force (Task Force) to study the placement of accessory dwelling units (ADU) on land zoned for single-family residential use and to survey and document a representative sampling of the variety of ordinances, laws, codes, and policies regarding accessory dwelling units at the state and local level.

Maryland 250 Commission

he 250th anniversary of the founding of the​​ United States of America offers an opportunity for Marylanders to reflect on the struggle for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the ongoing evolution of American democracy, and the impact of Marylanders on the nation's past, present, and future. The Maryland 25​​​0 Commission will develop, encourage, and execute an inclusive yearlong statewide celebration and commemoration in 2026

Patuxent River Commission

The Patuxent River Commission, formed four years after the 1980 Patuxent River Watershed Act sought to protect this important Maryland resource, envisions a Patuxent River ecosystem as vital and productive in 2050 as it was in the 1950s. The PRC​ serves as a steward for the Patuxent River and commits to leading and inspiring actions to protect, enhance, and restore river species as well as the natural, cultural, economic, and recreational values in the watershed.

Maryland Planning Commissioners Association

MPCA is governed by a board made up of representatives from each county in Maryland and led by elected officers. The board meets quarterly in January, April, July, and October, the latter meeting during the fall conference. Officers are nominated at the quarterly meeting prior to the annual fall conference when the group holds an election.​

Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission Archive

Established by the Maryland General Assembly in 2010 and sunset in 2020, the Sustainable Growth Commission was charged with making recommendations on growth and development issues and celebrating smart growth achievements with an annual awards program. The commission operated under a specific statutory charge.
