Description
BARRIER-EQUIPPED AND EASY-TO-OPEN FOOD PACKAGING
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to an easy-to-open food packaging with a barrier feature for keeping perishable/ sensitive products such as seafood fresh and for extending their shel f-li fe , thereby allowing the product contained in the package to be extracted in a hygienic manner without manual contact by the user .
Background
Food packaging serves as a protective container that allows the consumer to consume food products in a conserved manner . Food packaging is widely employed, especially in the food sector, to facilitate the practical consumption of prepackaged products and ensure their protection in the process . Currently, the most common packaging methods employed in the food manufacturing process are glass containers , vacuum packages , plastic packages , cans , and metal containers . Plastic packaging is widely considered to be the most appropriate option for food items such as fish .
The plastic packets that now contain food products are often accessed by either employing scissors or by ripping along a designated opening notch . As a result thereof , the consumer receives the food product by hand . However, the physical contact between the consumer ' s hand and the food product poses hygienic concerns , while the unpleasant odor emitted by food products such as beef , poultry, and fish might be trans ferred to the consumer ' s hands .
Food packaging used in the present art is generally obtained by combining many di f ferent structures , posing a disadvantage in terms of the recyclability of the packaging . Additionally, a great deal of containers are composed of rigid plastic, which contributes to the expanding use of plastic . This , in turn, causes containers to occupy a signi ficant amount of space , particularly on grocery store shelves .
Food products exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to several environmental conditions , including moisture , oxygen, and light . Therefore , it is necessary to accurately determine the materials to be selected for the packaging of foods and to determine the gas and moisture permeability properties thereof . In particular, the freshness of seafood and its long shel f li fe are of signi ficant importance for the product to be consumable .
Numerous studies have been conducted on the advancement of food packaging within the realm of technological research .
The patent document No . US2018037388AA may be referred to as an example for illustrating the current state of the art . The said document is directed to a thermoplastic package made of polyethylene terephthalate material , comprising a recyclable tray and a film for covering the top of the tray . Another obj ect of the invention mentioned in the document is to of fer packaging that includes food and/or non- food products , such as perishable items , dairy products , and meat . Yet another obj ect of the invention mentioned in the document is to provide a manually-openable package comprising a peelable tray, heat-sealed to a cover film laminate . However, the document contains embodiments for packages containing rigid plastic . This situation results in an increased utili zation
of plastic in the packing process and a greater spatial footprint on retail shelves .
Another example of the current state of the art is the patent document No . EP2517876A1 . The food packaging outlined in the document consists of a heat-resistant , food-grade polymer- coated aluminum or aluminum alloy container and a plastic composite material that facilitates the closure of the container . The plastic composite film consists of at least polyethylene terephthalate , polyamide and/or polypropylene materials . However, the inclusion of aluminum materials in food packaging content raises potential concerns for negative impacts on consumer health . In addition, the fact that the container part of the food packaging of the document consists of aluminum or aluminum alloy coated with a food-grade polymer and the film is a plastic composite film makes the recycling process di f ficult because the two materials cannot be directed to the same conversion channels in the conversion process .
In consideration of the foregoing, the present inventors developed a barrier-equipped, flexible , and easy-to-open food packaging that of fers a hygienic use by ensuring that food products are removed from the packaging without users ' manual contact .
