Definitions
- the present invention relates to a packaging member for a photosensitive drug substance in accordance with the preamble of claim 1 .
- CN 215664578 U describes an access box for lightshielding photosensitive drug substances, which comprises a box body, and a plurality of chutes arranged in the box body; The front end of the chute is arranged and the front end of the chute is lower than the rear end of the chute; the front and rear ends of the chute respectively have a front notch and a rear notch.
- the front notch is provided with a stopper for preventing the medicine bottle from sliding out automatically; the front notch and the rear notch are provided with shading devices, which comprise a layered door or a layered soft curtain arranged between two upper and lower eaves adjacent to each other.
- EP 3 000 750 A1 there is provided a light-shielding sheet that has a function of shielding light of a specific wavelength and that is capable of preventing a lightshielding substance from being transferred into the contents and seeping out of a container and a container produced using the light-shielding sheet.
- This light-shielding sheet of the present invention has a multilayer structure of three or more layers including at least one light-shielding layer that shields a specific wavelength and/or eluate-blocking layer that blocks substances eluted from the light-shielding layer.
- an eluate-blocking layer A is provided at least between the light-shielding layer and an innermost layer or on the innermost layer, and an eluate-blocking layer B is provided between the light-shielding layer and an outermost layer or on the outermost layer.
- the light-shielding layer may further double as an eluate-blocking layer.
- the present invention relates to a packaging member for a photosensitive drug substance which is made of a substantially stiff sheet-like material which defines an outer packaging surface and an inner packaging surface.
- the packaging member comprises a front wall member, a rear wall member and at least four side wall members.
- the inner packaging surface of at least one of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
- substantially stiff sheet like material refers to materials which only deform when subjected to external forces and which comprise a surface being multiple times larger than their thickness. Exemplary materials thus include particularly carton but also e.g. plastic materials or plant-based materials with similar characteristics.
- the “light absorption” as defined herein is directed to the amount of light being absorbed at normal incidence (measured with a standard spectrophotometer); i.e. in particular visible light and also UV light. This does however not exclude that at other angles of incidence the light absorption may even be higher.
- the “colour” as defined herein includes particularly dark colours, especially black, but also e.g. dark grey, purple, dark blue, dark brown, dark green or dark red.
- the colour is provided in the form of an ink printing on the inner packaging respectively carton surface.
- dark coatings may be applied to the inner packaging respectively carton surface.
- the inventive packaging member may thus provide for a very efficient light shielding where the photosensitive drug substance can remain in particular in their original secondary respectively protective packaging (e.g. tablet blisters may remain in their carton box) which may be opened by medical staff or the patient himself for taking out the required dose without that relevant light exposure - in particular due to light reflection at the inner walls of the packaging - occurs which could lead to a degradation of the ingredients of the drug substances.
- the inventive packaging member regularly combines the advantages of a comparatively short light exposure through a comparatively small opening of a medicament box with significantly decreased light reflexion at the inner surfaces of thereof.
- the inner packaging surface of at least two of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
- the light shielding efficiency may be further improved.
- the inner packaging surfaces of two broad side wall members of e.g. a rectangular-shaped packaging comprise the respective colour.
- the inner packaging surface of at least three of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
- the inner packaging surfaces of two broad side wall members and one small side wall member of e.g. a rectangular-shaped packaging comprise the respective colour.
- the inner packaging surface of at least four of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
- the light shielding efficiency may be further improved.
- the inner packaging surfaces of all four side wall members of e.g. a rectangular shaped packaging comprise the respective colour in order to effectively avoid/reduce reflexions.
- the inner packaging surface at least five of the front wall member, the rear wall member and the at least four side wall comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
- the light shielding efficiency may be further improved.
- the inner packaging surfaces of the front wall member and four side wall members of e.g. a rectangular shaped packaging comprise the respective colour in order to effectively avoid/reduce reflexions (i.e. especially if the packaging has been opened once).
- the inner packaging surface of the front wall member, the rear wall member and four side wall members of e.g. a rectangular shaped packaging comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
- a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
- the colour is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 75 %, more preferably of at least about 90 %, still more preferably of at least about 95 % and even more preferably of at least about 99 %.
- the fraction of reflected light can be still further decreased for each or all of the inner packaging surfaces, i.e. depending on the specific colour and/or surface characteristics applied.
- the front wall member comprises a front closure flap and/or the rear wall member comprises a rear closure flap.
- the closure flaps serve for a reliable closing/opening function of the packaging member. They usually comprise the same colour as the front or rear wall member on the inner packaging surface. It is however also conceivable that the closure flaps comprise colour different from the colour of the front or rear wall member.
- the side wall members comprise front side flaps and/or rear side flaps.
- the side flaps serve as an additional protective measure and support a secure closing of the front and rear closure flaps. They usually comprise the same colour as the respective side wall members on the inner packaging surface. It is however also conceivable that the side flaps comprise colour different from the colour of the side wall members.
- At least one of the (outer) side wall members of the packaging member comprises a bonding flap.
- the bonding flap is adapted for receiving a glue or adhesive application thereon by means of which the respective outer side wall is fixedly attached to the other outer side wall of the packaging member during assembly.
- the (outer) side wall member opposite from the (outer) side wall member with the bonding flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging surface which preferably corresponds to the bonding flap. In this manner, dark colour can be saved and an optimum adhesive strength can be insured since no abrasion may occur at the bonding respectively gluing sites which was found to have a detrimental effect in this respect.
- uncoloured is to be understood such that the respective field is not printed and/or coated with the light absorbing dark colour.
- the uncoloured field usually has the same colour as the outer carton respectively the outer packaging surface which is usually, but not necessarily, white.
- the rest of the inner packaging surface of the side wall members comprises the dark colour being adapted to provide for light absorption. It was found that if the four side wall members comprise the dark colour - and the other flaps and front respectively rear wall members remain uncoloured at the inner packaging surface - a very good light protection and considerable colour savings can be achieved at the same time. Due to the fact that the side flaps, the closure flaps and the front wall member and the rear wall member provide for overlapping in the assembled state, it is sufficient for the most applications when (only) the side wall members are provided with the dark colour.
- the folding lines formed between the individual side wall members and between the side wall member with the bonding flap and the bonding flap itself remain uncoloured.
- the folding lines between (outer) side wall member with the bonding flap and its side flaps, between the neighbouring side wall member and its front wall member, between the further neighbouring side wall member and its side flaps and between the (other outer) side wall member and its rear wall member remain uncoloured. In this manner additional ink can be saved while still ensuring very good light protection. Additionally, smearing at the folding machine can be avoided in an efficient manner.
- the bonding flap comprises a bonding section and a shielding section wherein the shielding section preferably has an attachment portion.
- a shielding and holding construction can be formed within the assembled (respectively folded and glued) packaging member, which holds for instance a vial in place and also protects the latter against shocks and vibrations.
- the side wall member opposite from the side wall member with the bonding flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging surface which preferably corresponds to the bonding section of the bonding flap. Also in this case, dark colour can be saved and an optimum adhesive strength can be insured since no abrasion may occur at the bonding respectively gluing sites which was found to have a detrimental effect in this respect.
- the side wall member with the bonding flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging side which preferably corresponds to the attachment portion of the shielding section of the bonding flap.
- the attachment portion comprises the dark colour at its inner packaging surface such that it may on the one hand cover the uncoloured field to ensure light protection and on the other hand provide for optimal bonding.
- one of the side wall members in particular the side wall member facing the side wall member with the bonding flap in the assembled state, comprises a rear side flap having a folding section wherein the folding section preferably has an attachment portion.
- a supporting and holding construction can be formed within the assembled (respectively folded and glued) packaging member, which supports for instance a vial in place and also protects the latter against shocks and vibrations.
- the side wall member with the rear side flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging surface which preferably corresponds to the attachment portion of the rear side flap.
- the attachment portion covers the uncoloured field to ensure optimal bonding.
- the attachment portion does not necessarily need to be provided with the dark colour.
- At least one of the side wall members comprises an access opening.
- the access opening provides for a convenient handling and is preferably provided in the in the unfolded packaging member in the form of a perforated section which is removed by the user when opening the packaging member for the first time.
- the colour is applied to the inner packaging surface in the form of a dark ink printing.
- the most preferred colour for the dark ink printing is black but also e.g. dark grey, purple, dark blue, dark brown, dark green and dark red may advantageously be used.
- the dark ink printing represents a particularly cost-efficient approach.
- the dark ink printing is provided in one or two or more layers.
- the layer(s) of dark ink printing may be provided with an additional dark lacquer layer.
- the most preferred colour for the dark lacquer layer is likewise black but also e.g. dark grey, purple, dark blue, dark brown, dark green and dark red may advantageously be used. It is generally also conceivable that the printed surface is subject to chemical and/or mechanical pre-processing in order to make the light absorption even more effective, particularly with regard to incident angles other than 90°, as for example 45°.
- the colour is applied to the inner packaging surface (or also the dark ink printed surface) in the form of a dark coating.
- a dark coating may for instance include functional surfaces such as carbon-based nanotubes or etched nickelphosphorus alloys.
- the substantially stiff sheet-like material comprises a uniform thickness. In this manner an unobstructed printing and/or coating process may be ensured.
- the packaging member is in the form of a secondary packaging member defining a receiving space for photosensitive drug substances contained in a primary packaging.
- a typical application of the inventive packaging are pills provided in several blister layers (as primary packaging) wherein the blister layers are enclosed in the medicament receiving space defined by the inner surface of the packaging wall members.
- Another aspect of the invention is directed to a (secondary) packaging product comprising a packaging member as described above and a photosensitive drug substance in a primary packaging which is contained within the packaging member, preferably in a primary packaging.

- FIG. 3 the prior art packaging member 10’ is depicted in its assembled (boxlike) state with the carton defining the reiving space 62’ of the box 10’ wherein the inner packaging surface remains unprinted.
- incident light will be reflected by the inner side walls and thus directed onto, for example, pills in a blister inside the receiving space 62’.
- Fig. 4 shows a top view on the outer packaging surface 20 respectively the outer carton of an inventive packaging member 10 in the unfolded state.
- the inventive packaging members usually comprise an outer carton 20 having a white colour onto which the branding of the respective drug or medicament is printed.
- the packaging member 10 comprises a front wall member 1 , a rear wall member 2 and side walls members 3, 4, 5 and 6 wherein side walls members 3 and 5 represent the small side walls and side walls members 4 and 6 represent the broad side walls of the packaging member 10.
- the outer side wall member 3 comprises front and rear side flaps 31 and 32 which interact, in the assembled state shown in Fig. 6 with front and rear side flaps 51 and 52 of the inner side wall member 5.
- the outer side wall member 3 also comprises at its free longitudinal side a bonding flap 33 by means of which the outer side wall member 3 is attached (from the inside) to the free longitudinal side of broad side wall member 6.
- the inner broad side wall member 4 comprises at its top end top wall member 1 with top closure flap 11 .
- the outer broad side wall member 6 in turn comprises at its rear end rear wall member 2 with rear closure flap 22.
- the outer small side wall member 3 and bonding flap 33 as well as side flaps 31 , 32 between the inner broad side wall member 4 and the top wall member 1 , between the top wall member 1 and the top closure flap 11 , between the inner small side wall member 5 and the side flaps 51 and 52, between the outer broad side wall member 6 and rear wall member 2 and between the rear wall member 2 and the rear closure flap 22 folding lines f are provided (only exemplarily shown), respectively.
- the folding lines f may be provided in the form of weakenings in the carton material.
- Fig. 5 shows a top view on the inner packaging surface 30 respectively the inner carton of an inventive packaging member 10 in the unfolded state.
- Fig. 5 is thus symmetrically identical with Fig. 4 (i.e. like Figs. 1 and 2) and the respective elements comprise the same reference numbers as in Fig. 4.
- the packaging member 10 according to the present invention comprises across its entire inner surface 30 a dark colour (and/or a dark coating), which is adapted to absorb up to almost all incident light. It is however also conceivable that only some of the wall members and/or flaps comprise the dark colour which lastly depends on the drug respectively medicine to be received by the packaging member 10.
- FIG. 6 the inventive packaging member 10 is depicted in its assembled (boxlike) state with the carton defining the (dark) reiving space 62 of the box 10 comprising a uniform dark colour for ensuring the intended light shielding.

Description
DESCRIPTION
Title
PACKAGING MEMBER FOR A PHOTOSENSITIVE DRUG SUBSTANCE
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a packaging member for a photosensitive drug substance in accordance with the preamble of claim 1 .
Background Art
[0002] It is generally known that certain medical products, such as for example vitamins, antihistamines, some anti-cancer drugs, antiinfectives, cytostatics, cardiovascular medicaments, gastrointestinal therapeutics, psychotropic agents, analgesics and others, are particularly sensitive to light and/or UV radiation. If such medicaments that need protection from light are not stored in a correct manner, active ingredient degradation and/or the formation of toxic by-products can occur, which can harm the health of the patient. It has been observed that already ambient light which enters into an opened standard medication packaging containing respective drug substances (e.g. tablets or pills or comparable administrable dosage forms) for a certain amount of time may have such negative effects.
[0003] Therefore, various packaging solutions have been proposed in order to produce relief.
[0004] In order to facilitate quick access during application, in practice, medical staff in large hospitals often removes the outer packaging of photosensitive drug substances in large doses and store them in a dark box, and open the box for use when needed. Also, for example medicine bottles or containers are stored in an open box with the outer packaging removed and are then covered with light-shielding fabrics. The light shielding fabrics are removed when the bottles are taken out. The drawbacks of such methods are that, firstly, it is inconvenient to take out the respective subject, and secondly, many
other drug substances/ bottles are exposed to light when unpacking or uncovering the cover.
[0005] Against this background, CN 215664578 U describes an access box for lightshielding photosensitive drug substances, which comprises a box body, and a plurality of chutes arranged in the box body; The front end of the chute is arranged and the front end of the chute is lower than the rear end of the chute; the front and rear ends of the chute respectively have a front notch and a rear notch. The front notch is provided with a stopper for preventing the medicine bottle from sliding out automatically; the front notch and the rear notch are provided with shading devices, which comprise a layered door or a layered soft curtain arranged between two upper and lower eaves adjacent to each other.
[0006] In EP 3 000 750 A1 there is provided a light-shielding sheet that has a function of shielding light of a specific wavelength and that is capable of preventing a lightshielding substance from being transferred into the contents and seeping out of a container and a container produced using the light-shielding sheet. This light-shielding sheet of the present invention has a multilayer structure of three or more layers including at least one light-shielding layer that shields a specific wavelength and/or eluate-blocking layer that blocks substances eluted from the light-shielding layer. When producing a container from the light-shielding sheet, an eluate-blocking layer A is provided at least between the light-shielding layer and an innermost layer or on the innermost layer, and an eluate-blocking layer B is provided between the light-shielding layer and an outermost layer or on the outermost layer. The light-shielding layer may further double as an eluate-blocking layer.
[0007] The aforementioned solutions have generally proven to provide reasonable light shielding characteristics; however they are associated with awkward handling, considerable expenditures and/or with a certain risk of confusion.
[0008] Therefore, there is a need for a packaging solution which can provide for a comparable or even enhanced protective function and which is at the same time more efficient in handling, less error-prone and less costly.
Disclosure of the Invention
[0009] According to the invention, this need is settled by a packaging member as it is defined by the features of independent claim 1 . Preferred embodiments are subject of the dependent claims.
[0010] In one aspect, the present invention relates to a packaging member for a photosensitive drug substance which is made of a substantially stiff sheet-like material which defines an outer packaging surface and an inner packaging surface. The packaging member comprises a front wall member, a rear wall member and at least four side wall members. The inner packaging surface of at least one of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %.
[0011] The term “substantially stiff sheet like material” as used herein refers to materials which only deform when subjected to external forces and which comprise a surface being multiple times larger than their thickness. Exemplary materials thus include particularly carton but also e.g. plastic materials or plant-based materials with similar characteristics.
[0012] The “light absorption” as defined herein is directed to the amount of light being absorbed at normal incidence (measured with a standard spectrophotometer); i.e. in particular visible light and also UV light. This does however not exclude that at other angles of incidence the light absorption may even be higher.
[0013] The “colour” as defined herein includes particularly dark colours, especially black, but also e.g. dark grey, purple, dark blue, dark brown, dark green or dark red. In a preferred manner, the colour is provided in the form of an ink printing on the inner packaging respectively carton surface. Alternatively or additionally, dark coatings may be applied to the inner packaging respectively carton surface.
[0014] The inventive packaging member may thus provide for a very efficient light shielding where the photosensitive drug substance can remain in particular in their original secondary respectively protective packaging (e.g. tablet blisters may remain in their carton box) which may be opened by medical staff or the patient himself for taking out the required dose without that relevant light exposure - in particular due to light reflection at the inner walls of the packaging - occurs which could lead to a degradation of the ingredients of the drug substances.
[0015] In other words, the inventive packaging member regularly combines the advantages of a comparatively short light exposure through a comparatively small opening of a medicament box with significantly decreased light reflexion at the inner surfaces of thereof.
[0016] It is noted that already a notable protective effect may be achieved if (only) the inner surface of the broad side of the, usually rectangular, packaging member which directly faces the drug substance within the packaging member comprises the respective colour.
[0017] Preferably, the inner packaging surface of at least two of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %. In this manner, the light shielding efficiency may be further improved. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the inner packaging surfaces of two broad side wall members of e.g. a rectangular-shaped packaging comprise the respective colour.
[0018] Preferably, the inner packaging surface of at least three of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %. In this manner, the light shielding efficiency may still be further improved. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the inner packaging surfaces of two broad side wall members and one small side wall member of e.g. a rectangular-shaped packaging comprise the respective colour.
[0019] Preferably, the inner packaging surface of at least four of the front wall member, the rear wall member and/or the at least four side wall members comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %. Also herewith, the light shielding efficiency may be further improved. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the inner packaging surfaces of all four side wall members of e.g. a rectangular shaped packaging comprise the respective colour in order to effectively avoid/reduce reflexions.
[0020] Preferably, the inner packaging surface at least five of the front wall member, the rear wall member and the at least four side wall comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %. Again, the light shielding
efficiency may be further improved. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the inner packaging surfaces of the front wall member and four side wall members of e.g. a rectangular shaped packaging comprise the respective colour in order to effectively avoid/reduce reflexions (i.e. especially if the packaging has been opened once).
[0021] Preferably, the the inner packaging surface of the front wall member, the rear wall member and four side wall members of e.g. a rectangular shaped packaging comprises a colour which is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 50 %. In this manner, an optimum light shielding efficiency can be achieved since the complete inner packaging surface is involved.
[0022] Preferably, the colour is adapted to provide for a light absorption of at least about 75 %, more preferably of at least about 90 %, still more preferably of at least about 95 % and even more preferably of at least about 99 %. Hereby, the fraction of reflected light can be still further decreased for each or all of the inner packaging surfaces, i.e. depending on the specific colour and/or surface characteristics applied.
[0023] Preferably, the front wall member comprises a front closure flap and/or the rear wall member comprises a rear closure flap. The closure flaps serve for a reliable closing/opening function of the packaging member. They usually comprise the same colour as the front or rear wall member on the inner packaging surface. It is however also conceivable that the closure flaps comprise colour different from the colour of the front or rear wall member.
[0024] Preferably, at least two of the side wall members comprise front side flaps and/or rear side flaps. The side flaps serve as an additional protective measure and support a secure closing of the front and rear closure flaps. They usually comprise the same colour as the respective side wall members on the inner packaging surface. It is however also conceivable that the side flaps comprise colour different from the colour of the side wall members.
[0025] Preferably, at least one of the (outer) side wall members of the packaging member comprises a bonding flap. The bonding flap is adapted for receiving a glue or adhesive application thereon by means of which the respective outer side wall is fixedly attached to the other outer side wall of the packaging member during assembly.
[0026] Preferably, the (outer) side wall member opposite from the (outer) side wall member with the bonding flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging surface which preferably corresponds to the bonding flap. In this manner, dark colour can be saved and an optimum adhesive strength can be insured since no abrasion may occur at the bonding respectively gluing sites which was found to have a detrimental effect in this respect. It is noted in this respect, that the term “uncoloured” is to be understood such that the respective field is not printed and/or coated with the light absorbing dark colour. Thus, the uncoloured field usually has the same colour as the outer carton respectively the outer packaging surface which is usually, but not necessarily, white.
[0027] Preferably, except from the uncoloured field, the rest of the inner packaging surface of the side wall members comprises the dark colour being adapted to provide for light absorption.
[0028] Preferably, the folding lines formed between the individual side wall members and between the side wall member with the bonding flap and the bonding flap itself remain uncoloured. Further preferably, also the folding lines between (outer) side wall member with the bonding flap and its side flaps, between the neighbouring side wall member and its front wall member, between the further neighbouring side wall member and its side flaps and between the (other outer) side wall member and its rear wall member remain uncoloured. In this manner additional ink can be saved while still ensuring very good light protection. Additionally, smearing at the folding machine can be avoided in an efficient manner.
[0029] Preferably, the bonding flap comprises a bonding section and a shielding section wherein the shielding section preferably has an attachment portion. In this manner, a shielding and holding construction can be formed within the assembled (respectively folded and glued) packaging member, which holds for instance a vial in place and also protects the latter against shocks and vibrations.
[0030] Preferably, the side wall member opposite from the side wall member with the bonding flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging surface which preferably corresponds to the bonding section of the bonding flap. Also in this case, dark colour can be saved and an optimum adhesive strength can be insured since no abrasion may occur at the bonding respectively gluing sites which was found to have a detrimental effect in this respect.
[0031] Further preferably, the side wall member with the bonding flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging side which preferably corresponds to the attachment portion of the shielding section of the bonding flap. The attachment portion comprises the dark colour at its inner packaging surface such that it may on the one hand cover the uncoloured field to ensure light protection and on the other hand provide for optimal bonding.
[0032] Preferably, one of the side wall members, in particular the side wall member facing the side wall member with the bonding flap in the assembled state, comprises a rear side flap having a folding section wherein the folding section preferably has an attachment portion. Hereby, a supporting and holding construction can be formed within the assembled (respectively folded and glued) packaging member, which supports for instance a vial in place and also protects the latter against shocks and vibrations.
[0033] Preferably, the side wall member with the rear side flap comprises an uncoloured field on the inner packaging surface which preferably corresponds to the attachment portion of the rear side flap. The attachment portion covers the uncoloured field to ensure optimal bonding. Here, the attachment portion does not necessarily need to be provided with the dark colour.
[0034] Preferably, at least one of the side wall members comprises an access opening. The access opening provides for a convenient handling and is preferably provided in the in the unfolded packaging member in the form of a perforated section which is removed by the user when opening the packaging member for the first time.
[0035] Preferably, the colour is applied to the inner packaging surface in the form of a dark ink printing. The most preferred colour for the dark ink printing is black but also e.g. dark grey, purple, dark blue, dark brown, dark green and dark red may advantageously be used. The dark ink printing represents a particularly cost-efficient approach.
Preferably, the dark ink printing is provided in one or two or more layers. Further preferably, the layer(s) of dark ink printing may be provided with an additional dark lacquer layer. The most preferred colour for the dark lacquer layer is likewise black but also e.g. dark grey, purple, dark blue, dark brown, dark green and dark red may advantageously be used. It is generally also conceivable that the printed surface is subject to chemical and/or mechanical pre-processing in order to make the light absorption even more effective, particularly with regard to incident angles other than 90°, as for example 45°.
[0036] Preferably, the colour is applied to the inner packaging surface (or also the dark ink printed surface) in the form of a dark coating. Such coatings may for instance include functional surfaces such as carbon-based nanotubes or etched nickelphosphorus alloys.
[0037] Preferably, the substantially stiff sheet-like material comprises a uniform thickness. In this manner an unobstructed printing and/or coating process may be ensured.
[0038] Preferably, the packaging member is in the form of a secondary packaging member defining a receiving space for photosensitive drug substances contained in a primary packaging. A typical application of the inventive packaging are pills provided in several blister layers (as primary packaging) wherein the blister layers are enclosed in the medicament receiving space defined by the inner surface of the packaging wall members.
[0039] Another aspect of the invention is directed to a (secondary) packaging product comprising a packaging member as described above and a photosensitive drug substance in a primary packaging which is contained within the packaging member, preferably in a primary packaging.

Description of Embodiments
[0041] In the following description certain terms are used for reasons of convenience and are not intended to limit the invention. The terms “right”, “left”, “up”, “down”, “under" and “above" refer to directions in the figures. The terminology comprises the explicitly mentioned terms as well as their derivations and terms with a similar meaning. Also, spatially relative terms, such as "beneath", "below", "lower", "above", "upper", "proximal", "distal", and the like, may be used to describe one element's or feature's relationship to another element or feature as illustrated in the figures. These spatially relative terms are intended to encompass different positions and orientations of the devices in use or operation in addition to the position and orientation shown in the figures. For example, if a device in the figures is turned over, elements described as
"below" or "beneath" other elements or features would then be "above" or "over" the other elements or features. Thus, the exemplary term "below" can encompass both positions and orientations of above and below. The devices may be otherwise oriented (rotated 90 degrees or at other orientations), and the spatially relative descriptors used herein interpreted accordingly. Likewise, descriptions of movement along and around various axes include various special device positions and orientations.
[0042] To avoid repetition in the figures and the descriptions of the various aspects and illustrative embodiments, it should be understood that many features are common to many aspects and embodiments. Omission of an aspect from a description or figure does not imply that the aspect is missing from embodiments that incorporate that aspect. Instead, the aspect may have been omitted for clarity and to avoid prolix description. In this context, the following applies to the rest of this description: If, in order to clarify the drawings, a figure contains reference signs which are not explained in the directly associated part of the description, then it is referred to previous or following description sections. Further, for reason of lucidity, if in a drawing not all features of a part are provided with reference signs it is referred to other drawings showing the same part. Like numbers in two or more figures represent the same or similar elements.
[0043] Fig. 1 shows a top view on the outer packaging surface 20’ respectively the outer carton of a prior art packaging member 10’ in the unfolded state. In such prior art packaging members the outer carton 20’ usually has a white colour onto which the branding of the respective drug or medicament is printed.
[0044] Fig. 2 shows a top view on the inner packaging surface 30’ respectively the inner carton of a prior art packaging member 10’ in the unfolded state. In such prior art packaging members the inner carton 30’ comprises an unprinted inner surface, i.e. with bright colours reflecting large proportions of incident light.
[0045] In Fig. 3 the prior art packaging member 10’ is depicted in its assembled (boxlike) state with the carton defining the reiving space 62’ of the box 10’ wherein the inner packaging surface remains unprinted. Thus, in the opened state of the packaging member 10’ incident light will be reflected by the inner side walls and thus directed onto, for example, pills in a blister inside the receiving space 62’.
[0046] Fig. 4 shows a top view on the outer packaging surface 20 respectively the outer carton of an inventive packaging member 10 in the unfolded state. Also the inventive packaging members usually comprise an outer carton 20 having a white colour onto which the branding of the respective drug or medicament is printed.
[0047] The packaging member 10 comprises a front wall member 1 , a rear wall member 2 and side walls members 3, 4, 5 and 6 wherein side walls members 3 and 5 represent the small side walls and side walls members 4 and 6 represent the broad side walls of the packaging member 10. The outer side wall member 3 comprises front and rear side flaps 31 and 32 which interact, in the assembled state shown in Fig. 6 with front and rear side flaps 51 and 52 of the inner side wall member 5. The outer side wall member 3 also comprises at its free longitudinal side a bonding flap 33 by means of which the outer side wall member 3 is attached (from the inside) to the free longitudinal side of broad side wall member 6. The inner broad side wall member 4 comprises at its top end top wall member 1 with top closure flap 11 . The outer broad side wall member 6 in turn comprises at its rear end rear wall member 2 with rear closure flap 22. Between the outer small side wall member 3 and bonding flap 33 as well as side flaps 31 , 32, between the inner broad side wall member 4 and the top wall member 1 , between the top wall member 1 and the top closure flap 11 , between the inner small side wall member 5 and the side flaps 51 and 52, between the outer broad side wall member 6 and rear wall member 2 and between the rear wall member 2 and the rear closure flap 22 folding lines f are provided (only exemplarily shown), respectively. The folding lines f may be provided in the form of weakenings in the carton material.
[0048] Fig. 5 shows a top view on the inner packaging surface 30 respectively the inner carton of an inventive packaging member 10 in the unfolded state. Fig. 5 is thus symmetrically identical with Fig. 4 (i.e. like Figs. 1 and 2) and the respective elements comprise the same reference numbers as in Fig. 4. In contrast to the prior art solution described above in connection with Figs. 1 to 3, the packaging member 10 according to the present invention comprises across its entire inner surface 30 a dark colour (and/or a dark coating), which is adapted to absorb up to almost all incident light. It is however also conceivable that only some of the wall members and/or flaps comprise the dark colour which lastly depends on the drug respectively medicine to be received by the packaging member 10. Further, it is also conceivable that some or all of the wall members and/or flaps comprise individually different colours.
[0049] In Fig. 6 the inventive packaging member 10 is depicted in its assembled (boxlike) state with the carton defining the (dark) reiving space 62 of the box 10 comprising a uniform dark colour for ensuring the intended light shielding. Thus, in the opened state of the packaging member 10 light will almost fully be absorbed by the inner side walls and thus not directed onto, for example, pills in a blister inside the dark receiving space 62. The exemplary access opening 61 may also be omitted in other embodiments.
[0050] Fig. 7 shows a top view on the inner packaging surface 30 respectively the inner carton of a preferred embodiment of an inventive packaging member 10 in the unfolded state. Fig. 7 is substantially identical with Fig. 5 and the respective elements comprise the same reference signs as in Fig. 5. In contrast to the packaging member shown and described in Fig. 5, the packaging member 10 of Fig. 7 comprises at the outer edge of side wall member 6 an uncoloured field 63 which corresponds with bonding flap 33 of side wall member 3. The outer (uncoloured) surface of bonding flap 3 is glued together with the uncoloured field 63 of side wall member 6. In this manner, dark colour can be saved and the adhesive bond is stronger than if a coloured and an uncoloured surface are glued together.
[0051] In a further preferred embodiment shown in Fig. 8, the front wall member 1 with closure flap 11 , the rear wall member 2 with closure flap 22, the side flaps 51 , 52 and the side flaps 31 , 32 also remain uncoloured, i.e. together with the uncoloured field 63 of side wall member 6. In this manner, even more dark colour can be saved without substantially impeding the light absorbing effect due to the overlappings created by the aforementioned wall members and flaps.
[0052] Fig. 9 shows a top view on the inner packaging surface 30 respectively the inner carton of a still further preferred embodiment of an inventive packaging member 10 in the unfolded state. Here, the front wall member 1 with closure flap 11 , the rear wall member 2 with closure flap 22, the side flaps 51 , 520 and the side flaps 31 , 32 remain uncoloured. The side wall member 6 comprises an uncoloured field 64, the side wall member 5 comprises an uncoloured field 66 and the side wall member 3 comprises an uncoloured field 65. Also the (vertical) folding lines f formed between the individual side wall members 3, 4, 5 and 6 and between the side wall member 3 with the bonding flap 33, 330 and the bonding flap 33, 330 itself remain uncoloured. Additionally, also the (horizontal) folding lines f between side wall member 3 and its side flaps 31 , 32, between the side wall member 4 its front wall member 1 , between the side wall member
5 and its side flaps 52, 520 and between the side wall member 6 and its rear wall member 2 remain uncoloured.
[0053] The bonding flap 330 of side wall member 3 of this embodiment is extended as compared to the bonding flap 33 shown for instance in Figs. 7 and 8. Here, the bonding flap 330 includes a bonding section 331 , a shielding section 332 and an attachment portion 333. The bonding flap 330 is folded four times, namely about folding line f formed between side wall member 3 and the bonding section 331 , about additional folding line f’ formed between the bonding section 331 and the shielding section, about additional folding line f’ formed in an intermediate position of the shielding section 332 and about the additional folding line f’ formed between the shielding section 332 and the attachment portion 333 at the outer end of the bonding flap 330. The uncoloured outer surface of the attachment portion 333 is glued together with the uncoloured field 65 of side wall member 3. Thereby, a rectangular shielding respectively holding construction for e.g. a vial in the packaging is created. The uncoloured outer surface of the bonding section 331 is glued together with the uncoloured field 64 of side wall member 6.
[0054] In a similar manner as the bonding flap 330, the rear side flap 520 is folded four times, namely about folding line f formed between side wall member 5 and the folding section 521 , about the two additional folding line f’ formed in an intermediate position of the folding section 521 and about the additional folding line f’ formed between the folding section 521 and the attachment portion 522 at the outer end of the rear side flap 520. The uncoloured outer surface of the attachment portion 522 is glued together with the uncoloured field 66 of side wall member 5. Thereby, a pedestal-like supporting respectively holding construction for e.g. a vial in the packaging is created which, together with the shielding respectively holding construction, provides for an easy and efficient protection for e.g. a vial contained in the assembled box.
