- FIG. 1 shows a flow chart of a method according to the invention for operating a visual interface between a vehicle and a vehicle occupant.
- a first method step 1 parameters of the vehicle and / or vehicle surroundings and / or inputs from the vehicle occupant are recorded.
- the torque applied by the drive unit of the vehicle and thus symbolically the effort of the vehicle can be recorded as a parameter of the vehicle.
- the current steering angle can also be recorded as a parameter for the driving functions of the vehicle in the transverse direction.
- various parameters of the vehicle environment can be recorded by environment sensors of the vehicle and, for example, relate to the course of the road, lane markings or objects in the vehicle environment like other vehicles.
- information from digital map data can also be used.
- An input of a vehicle occupant can be done by a haptic input / output device, but also in other ways such as voice input.
- a parameter range that is currently safe for the vehicle and / or technically feasible for driving maneuvers such as acceleration, braking or a lane change of the vehicle, is determined. If the vehicle occupant has entered an instruction to the vehicle, this is then checked to determine whether it can be carried out by the vehicle at the current point in time. For example, an instruction to change lanes or to accelerate the vehicle can depend on whether the adjacent lane or the current lane is currently free. In this case, it can first of all also be determined from which vehicle occupant the entry was made and whether this vehicle occupant is even authorized to give instructions to the vehicle.
- a graphic representation is then generated as a function of the result of the evaluation.
- This graphic representation provides the vehicle occupant with parameters and / or imminent driving maneuvers of the vehicle as well as a safe and / or technically feasible parameter range for a possible influencing of a driving function of the vehicle through an input by the vehicle occupant.
- the generated graphic representation is displayed in method step 4. This can be done in particular by a display on a head-up display.
- the display can also be reproduced by means of AR glasses worn by the vehicle occupant, on a permanently installed display in the vehicle or on a display of a mobile device located in the vehicle, such as a mobile radio device or portable computer.
- feedback can also be given to the vehicle occupant via voice output or a haptic interface.
- FIG. 1 A graphic representation generated according to the invention for the visualization of various driving situations or maneuvers, such as can be displayed in particular on a head-up display, is shown in FIG.
- the vehicle is in the middle of three lanes, with three different graphic objects being displayed in such a way that they appear to be lying in front of the vehicle on the lane.
- the parameters effort or torque of a motor driving the vehicle and the steering angle of the vehicle are combined by means of a first graphic object G1.
- the first graphic object G1 is designed here as a line lying in front of the vehicle on the roadway with a bell-shaped contour. When driving straight ahead, this bell-shaped contour is symmetrical, as shown in FIG. 2a).
- the height of the bell-shaped contour depends on the current torque of the engine, with a horizontal, straight line being displayed when the vehicle is at a standstill.
- a second graphic object G2 shows the vehicle occupant feedback for an input to carry out a driving maneuver.
- This second graphic object G2 is also designed linearly and has a contour that is adapted to the first graphic object G1, but has a significantly smaller extension to the side. If the current vehicle parameters match an input made by the vehicle occupant, the second graphic object is displayed in the immediate vicinity of the first graphic object. To make it easier to distinguish between them, the first and second graphic objects are shown in different colors.
- a third graphic object G3 is designed in planar form as a point grid and reproduces a safe and / or technically feasible parameter range for driving maneuvers of the vehicle.
- the first and second graphic objects are located within the third graphic object, which extends noticeably beyond the linear contours of the first and second graphic object in the direction of travel and in the direction of the left lane. This gives the vehicle occupant the information that the vehicle can safely switch from the middle lane to the left lane or that the effort can be reduced or increased.
- the representation of the bell-shaped contour expands in the direction of travel, as shown in FIG. 2b).
- the vehicle occupant can now see from the illustration that a further increase in the torque is no longer possible.
- the adaptation of the display can reflect the input made by the vehicle occupant, for example if the vehicle occupant increases the effort by moving a haptic interface forwards. This mirroring of the input is intended to ensure an intuitive and natural interaction. Whether and to what extent the user can move the input device forwards and thus increase the effort is indicated to him by the third graphic object. If an input is made by a vehicle occupant, the current input is mirrored by a corresponding adaptation of the second graphic object. If the instruction can be executed immediately, for example an acceleration of the vehicle is currently possible without risk, since the lane in front of the own vehicle is free, then the second graphic object continues to be displayed in the immediate vicinity of the first graphic object.
- the instruction cannot be executed immediately, for example because the vehicle must first flash for a certain time before the lane change is started, the line of the second graphic object initially inclines in the respective direction, while the bell-shaped contour of the first graphic object initially remains unchanged. This is shown in FIG. 2c) for the case that the vehicle occupant has entered an instruction for a change to the left lane. An inclination of the second graphic object to the left indicates that the desired lane change will shortly be carried out.
- the shape of the first graphic object inclines in accordance with the steering angle in the direction of the second graphic object and is displayed as an asymmetrical bell-shaped contour following the steering angle.
- the shape leans correspondingly far to the respective side.
- the bell-shaped contour of the first graphic object is adapted in the event of a steering angle when driving through a curve. The adjustment of the bell-shaped contour takes place smoothly, so that its change appears as natural as possible and, if necessary, arouses associations with an organic body that moves smoothly over the route.
- an input / output device is inclined, depending on the steering angle, synchronously with the inclination of the bell-shaped contour of the first graphic object.
- the graphical representation generated according to the invention enables the vehicle occupant, on the one hand, to intuitively grasp the extent to which he can influence parameters for driving functions in the longitudinal and transverse directions and, on the other hand, to receive visual feedback on his inputs in the same representation.
- FIG. 3 shows a schematic block diagram of a system which provides a visual interface according to the invention.
- all the units shown are part of the vehicle, which additionally contains further components, not shown, such as the chassis and the engine.
- a display unit A is provided to display the graphic representations generated according to the invention.
- the display unit A can in particular be designed as a head-up display that is based on mirror optics and an imaging unit (a so-called PGU from English “Picture Generating Unit”).
- the latter usually consists of a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) display that is backlit with light-emitting diodes. With the mirror optics, the content of the display is enlarged for the virtual representation and projected onto the windshield.
- a display can also take place on a display which is arranged in the vehicle interior.
- a graphics unit G generates the graphic representations described above.
- the required image elements of the graphic objects can be stored in a memory of the graphic unit and then output as required for the generation of the graphic representation.
- a large number of different shapes can be stored for the graphic objects so that the appropriate shape for the linear or flat graphic objects is already available for a display and only needs to be called up.
- only a few basic shapes can also be stored, from which the respective shape required for the display is then calculated.
- image sequences of successive shapes are generated in order to generate a flowing movement.
- different colors can be selected for the various graphic objects by the graphic unit in order to ensure particularly good distinguishability. Additional information can also be displayed with alphanumeric characters.
- the graphics unit is controlled by an evaluation and control unit AS.
- the evaluation and control unit AS can be supplied with vehicle parameters, for example from control units of the vehicle (not shown).
- parameters of the vehicle environment can be evaluated, which have been determined by environment sensors SN of the vehicle.
- the environment sensors can be, for example, camera, radar, ultrasonic, lidar sensors and, in particular, also a combination of different such sensors.
- inputs from the vehicle occupant, which are recorded with an input unit E, are evaluated by the evaluation and control unit AS.
- the evaluation and control unit AS can control an autonomous drive unit AA in accordance with the recorded inputs.
- the autonomous drive unit AA can be a A steering control system for controlling the steering angle and an engine controller for controlling the torque of the engine of the vehicle.
