Description
TITLE OF THE INVENTION
An assembly for cable-operated hydraulic front braking mechanism
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Technical field of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates to an assembly for a cable-operated hydraulic front braking mechanism. Further, the present invention particularly relates to an assembly for connecting the hydraulic front braking system to the dual braking system of a vehicle by means of a cable.
Background of the invention
[0002] Two-wheeler vehicles employ various braking mechanisms such as drum brakes, disc brakes, hydraulic brakes, dual braking systems and so on. The utility curve of dual braking systems has been exponential over the recent decade, wherein the current vehicles employ dual cylinders, one to operate the front brake and the other to operate the dual braking system. However, upon wear and tear, the dual cylinders are required to be replaced which is often a complex and expensive affair.
[0003] The Patent Application No. IN201614015229A titled “A combined braking system ( CBS ) actuator used for motorcycles linked front disc brake and rear drum brake” discloses a front-disc and rear-drum combined braking device for motorcycle, comprising a housing, a brake connecting rod, and a steering rod and an actuator inside the housing. A connecting rod between the steering rod and the actuator has both ends movably connected, with a front connecting rivet of the steering rod and a rear connecting rivet of the actuator respectively, realizing linkage between the steering rod and the actuator connecting rod. The end of the
front cable of the steering rod is connected with one end of a front cable for a front brake. A middle portion of the steering rod is fixed inside the housing. The end of the rear cable of the actuator is in connection with one end of a rear cable used for a rear brake. One end of the brake connecting rod is movably connected with a middle portion of the actuator, and the other end thereof extends out of the housing.
[0004] The Patent Application No. WO2015019133A2 titled “ Synchronized braking system” discloses a synchronized braking system for two- wheeled vehicles. The synchronized braking system includes a front wheel brake, a rear wheel brake, a combined wheel brake lever, and a distributor. The combined wheel brake lever is connected to the front wheel brake and the rear wheel brake through a combined front brake cable and a rear brake cable. Further, the distributor is connected to the combined wheel brake lever to actuate the front wheel brake and the rear wheel brake upon actuation of the combined wheel brake lever. The distributor is pivoted about a distributor pivot axis, and the distributor pivot axis is offset along a length of the distributor with respect to a center axis of the distributor.
[0005] Hence, there is a need for a cost-effective and retrofitting solution for simultaneously operating the front brake and rear brake by means of a cable- operated dual braking system.
Summary of the invention:
[0006] The present invention overcomes the drawbacks of the prior art by providing an assembly for a cable-operated hydraulic front braking mechanism. The assembly comprises a master cylinder unit for converting the mechanical braking force applied by a user into hydraulic pressure. The master cylinder unit comprises a plunger, a lever and a lever slot wherein the plunger compresses the braking fluid stored in the master cylinder unit. A pivot bracket is mounted on the master cylinder unit and comprises a pair of mounting holes which are provided on either ends of the pivot bracket. The mounting holes are provided to retrofit the assembly with the current hydraulic braking systems.
[0007] A pivot plate is disposed perpendicularly downwards to the direction of the pivot bracket, wherein pivot plate is secured to the pivot bracket by means of a pivot shaft which is disposed on one end of the pivot plate. Further, the plunger is secured with the pivot plate by means of a plunger push rod pin. A plunger push rod is disposed between the plunger push rod pin and the plunger, wherein the plunger push rod converts the mechanical movement of the pivot plate into uniform linear motion of the plunger.
[0008] A front brake cable mounting point is disposed on one end of the pivot plate which is opposite to the pivot shaft, wherein the front brake cable mounting point allows a cable to be connected between the front brake cable mounting point and the dual braking system of a vehicle. The cable connected to the front brake cable mounting point actuates the plunger independent of the lever upon exertion of manual force on the dual braking system by the user. The facility of a cable- operated front braking system enables the user to implement a braking action simultaneously on the front wheel and the rear wheel by manually actuating the dual braking system.
[0009] The present invention provides a simple and cost-effective solution which may be retrofitted with the current hydraulic braking systems. The assembly facilitates simultaneous braking action of the front wheel and the rear wheel by employing a cable-operated front hydraulic front braking mechanism using a single master cylinder unit and a dual braking system.
