Definitions
- the present invention relates to a laundry machine, in particular to a laundry dryer or a combined type laundry washer-dryer.
- the present invention more particularly relates to a laundry machine which has a steam applying facility for the treatment of the laundry with steam.
- Laundry machines such as laundry dryers as well as combined type laundry washer-dryers are commonly known in the art.
- a laundry machine is commonly provided with a steam applying facility which treats the laundry with steam.
- the steam removes the wrinkles and the creases from the laundry. Moreover, steam has a sanitizing effect and also removes unpleasant odors.
- the steam applying facility generally comprises a steam generator that generates pressurized steam and supplies the same to a steam injection apparatus that injects the steam directly into the drum.
- the steam applying facility also comprises a replenishable tank for storing water; and a pump for conveying the water from the tank to the steam generator.
- WO2015078512 A1 discloses a laundry machine which has a steam applying facility.
- An objective of the present invention is to provide a laundry machine which solves the aforementioned problems of the prior art in a cost-effective way and which prevents the steam applying facility from overheating and enables an improved steam generation safety.
- control unit is programmed to initiate the steam applying mode after completion of the drying mode, to monitor during the steam applying mode the temperature inside the drum by means of the process air temperature sensor, to judge whether the steam applying unit is operating under normal conditions or abnormal conditions based on the monitoring result, to terminate the steam applying mode if the judgement is negative, and to continue the steam applying mode if the judgement is positive.
- a major advantageous effect of the present invention is that the control unit is enabled to detect whether the steam applying unit continues to operate although it has run out of water. Thereby, the control unit can immediately prevent the steam applying unit, in particular the steam generator and the pump from continuing to operate under abnormal conditions by way of deenergizing them, and thus the risk of receiving damages due to the excessive heat can be eliminated or reduced as much as possible.
- Another major advantageous effect of the present invention is that the control unit performs the abnormality/normality detection by way of using the process air temperature sensor in the drying unit.
- the process air temperature sensor can be used both in the drying mode and in the subsequent steam applying mode. Thereby, the production costs can be reduced both in material and labor.
- control unit determines the initial temperature inside the drum by means of the process air temperature sensor immediately after initiation of the steam applying mode as T_initial. Then, the control unit determines the maximum temperature inside the drum by means of the same sensor within a predetermined time interval ⁇ t that starts immediately from the initiation of the steam supplying mode as T_max. Then, the control unit judges that the steam applying unit is operating under normal conditions provided that T_max is higher than T_initial at least through a predetermined threshold temperature T_threshold. However, if the difference between T_max and T_initial is less than T_threshold, then the control unit judges that the steam applying unit is operating under abnormal conditions.
- This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the abnormality/normality detection can be easily performed upon initiation of the steam applying mode within a comparatively short time interval.
- the abnormality/normality detection may be repeated for one or more following time intervals in accordance with the operation periods of the steam applying unit, including that of the pump and the steam generator prior to completion of the steam applying mode.
- the overheating of the steam generator and the pump can be additionally detected through a thermostat which is disposed in close proximity to the steam generator and the pump.
- the thermostat deenergizes the steam generator and the pump in case of overheating and reenergizes the same after the thermostat temperature is decreases to the normal level.
- This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the thermostat renders the steam generation safer. Thus, a double safety can be achieved.
- the laundry machine is respectively provided with a heat-pump type drying unit and a condenser type drying unit. These embodiments are particularly advantageous as the abnormality/normality detection which is conducted by the control unit can be applied to either type of laundry machines.
- the laundry machine is respectively provided as a laundry dryer and a combination type laundry washer-dryer.
- This embodiment is particularly advantageous as the abnormality/normality detection which is conducted by the control unit can be applied to either type of laundry machines.
- the present invention also provides a control method and a corresponding computer program which comprises computer-readable codes that cause the control unit, in particular the processor of a programmable laundry machine to execute the aforementioned abnormality/normality detection.
- the program of the present invention is provided in suitable a non-volatile storage medium.
