Description

Description
Proprioceptive arch support with cushion for calcaneal spur prevention.
The present patent application relates to a proprioceptive arch support intended to help a user in keeping a correct position in order to prevent the onset of pathologies related with an incorrect position.
The stimulation of specific points in the foot sole permits to correct the position of a user wearing a proprioceptive arch support, reinforce his/her muscle tone and strengthen his/her ligaments.
As it is known, the foot comprises a heel that represents the rear end of the foot, toes that represent the front end of the foot and protrude from a metatarsus, and an arch disposed between the heel and the metatarsus.
As shown in Fig. 1 , the foot comprises a lower support surface (S) comprising:
- a front surface (SA) in correspondence of the toes and the metatarsus of the user's foot,
- a central surface (SC) in correspondence of the arch of the user's foot, and
- a rear surface (SP) in correspondence of the heel of the user's foot.
The rear surface (SP) comprises:
- a rear peripheral area (SPP) in correspondence of a rear perimeter portion of the heel intended to be the first one to come in contact with the ground during walking,
- a central area (SPC) in correspondence of a central portion of the heel of the user's foot, which is intended to come in contact with the ground during walking after the rear peripheral area (SPP) and is intended to support the user's weight while standing, and - a front peripheral area (SPA) in correspondence of a front peripheral portion of the heel of the user's foot intended to come in contact with the ground during walking after the central area (SPC).
The lower support surface (S) comprises a perimeter edge (BP) comprising an internal edge (Bl) faced towards the other foot of the user and an external edge (BE) faced outwards.
Fig. 2 shows a proprioceptive arch support (200) of the prior art comprising a plurality of cushions in order to cushion and stimulate the lower support surface (S) of the user's foot. In particular, the proprioceptive arch support (200) comprises:
- a first front cushion (201 ), a second front cushion (202) and a third front cushion (203) with a rectangular shape that are intended to be disposed under the front surface (SA) of the foot,
- a first central cushion (204) intended to be disposed under the central surface (SC) in correspondence of the external edge (BE) of the foot and a second central cushion (205) intended to be disposed under the central surface (SC) in correspondence of the internal edge (Bl) and under the front peripheral area (SPA) of the rear surface (SP) of the foot, and
- a first rear cushion (206) and a second rear cushion (207) intended to be disposed under the rear peripheral area (SPP) of the user's foot.
The proprioceptive arch support (200) has a padding (214) in correspondence of the cushions (201 , 202, 203, 204, 205, 206, 207) that is made with pieces of natural rubber.
During the use of the proprioceptive arch support (200), the padding (214) tends to be disposed on the corners of the first front cushion (201 ), of the second front cushion (202) and of the third front cushion (203) because of the rectangular shape of the first front cushion (201 ), of the second front cushion (202) and of the third front cushion (203). Moreover, the padding made with pieces of natural rubber is hard and uncomfortable for the user.
Moreover, the proprioceptive arch support (200) according to the prior art comprises a stiffening portion (209) made of cardboard or the like in order to stiffen the proprioceptive arch support and prevent the arch support from moving and/or contracting because of the movement of the foot during walking.
The stiffening portion (209) is intended to be disposed under the central surface (SC), under the central area (SPC) and partially under the front peripheral area (SPA) of the lower support surface (S).
As shown in Fig. 3, the stiffening portion (209) is substantially shaped as a T" and abuts with the front cushions (201 , 202, 203) on top, with the central cushions (204, 205) laterally and with the first rear cushion (206) on the bottom.
The purpose of the stiffening portion (209) is to stiffen the proprioceptive arch support and prevent said arch support from getting deformed by the force exerted by the foot on the proprioceptive arch support when the shoe with the arch support is worn, or during walking.
Being made of cardboard or the like, the stiffening portion intrinsically tends to deteriorate with use and heat, breaking up in small parts. In such a case, the stiffening portion (209) no longer stiffens the proprioceptive arch support.
Moreover, the proprioceptive arch support comprises a separation portion (291 ) shaped as a "U" that abuts with the first rear cushion (206) and with the second rear cushion (207) externally, with the second central cushion (205) internally and partially with the stiffening portion (291 ) on top. The separation portion (291 ) is disposed under the central area (SPC) of the rear surface (SP) of the user's foot.
Said central area (SPC) of the rear surface (SP) supports the weight of the user when standing and during walking, when the user's weight is moved from the rear peripheral area (SPP) of the rear surface (SP) of the foot to the front peripheral area (SPA) of the rear surface (SP) of the user's foot.
The separation portion (291 ) does not comprise a covering of the type used for cushions and has a lower thickness than the cushions. Therefore the separation portion (291 ) is not in contact with the central area (SPC) of the rear surface (SP) of the user's foot. Consequently, the separation portion (291 ) does not provide any support to the central area (SPC) of the rear surface (SP) of the user's foot. A careful examination of a similar arch support has shown that its structural configuration can cause pathologies related with the calcaneal spur in the foot of a user of said proprioceptive arch support.
The main purpose of the present innovation is to eliminate the drawbacks of the prior art by disclosing a proprioceptive arch support that improves the support of the user's foot and prevents the onset of the calcaneal spur pathology.
A secondary purpose is to disclose a proprioceptive arch support that is not deformed with use.

The stiffening portion (9) is made of polyester and has a thickness ranging from 0.01 mm to 0.2 mm and a value ranging from 1 6 to 139 grams per square meter. In particular, the polyester used for the stiffening portion is distinguished by the MYLAR® trademark registered by Du Pont de Nemours. The MYLAR® polyester is obtained from polyethylenterephtalate, which is formed by means of a condensation reaction between ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. The operating temperature is comprised between -60°C and 130°C. MYLAR® is a material that guarantees an excellent electrical insulation, an excellent mechanical resistance and a good thermal resistance. It is therefore suitable for insulating transformers, coating cables and wires of motors, capacitors, membrane switches and, in general, electrical appliances.
The use of polyester for the stiffening portion (9) prevents the stiffening portion (9) from breaking up in pieces, guaranteeing a suitable rigidity of the stiffening portion of the proprioceptive arch support (100) over time.
Although not shown in the figures, also the separation portion (91 ) can be optionally made of polyester.
Although not shown in the figures, the proprioceptive arch support may frontally comprise a single cushion (1 , 2, 3) that extends from the internal edge to the external edge of the proprioceptive arch support.
Optionally, the proprioceptive arch support may comprise a single rear cushion (6, 7) shaped as a "U".
Numerous variations and modifications can be made to the present embodiment of the innovation, which are within the reach of an expert of the field, falling in any case within the scope of the innovation as disclosed by the attached claims.
