Description
Description of the patent application for an industria! invention entitled:
"Device for hairdryer to reverse the airflow towards the suction side for the ejection of dust"
This invention relates to a device intended to be placed inside appliances that draw in air using fans, in this specific case inside a hairdryer, both portable and fixed. The invention exploits rationally the airflows produced by the suction and the depressions created within the body of the appliance, changing their direction so as to convey the air and the dust particles dispersed therein to the outflow areas, changing the Infernal depressions and causing easy and automatic ejection towards the said suction side. A device that, after having diverted the flows, acts to mechanicaiiy filter the foreign bodies in the aspirated air, by introducing the force-diverted flow info its own duct by means of the auto-generation of cyclonic depressions. Taking a hairdryer as an example, the device allows the air that has been drawn into the appliance to be conveyed through the duct found inside the device which, with its wails in the shape of an internally-hollow convex truncated cone, operates so as to allow the influx and the collection of dirt on the said wails until the accumulation reaches a point thai prevents the flow itself, thus triggering its automatic ejection. The curvature and inclination of the walls of the duct constituting the device in the shape of a hollow convex truncated cone generate depressions capable of drawing towards its interior the suction of the airflows inside the appliance, ivlore specifically, this invention relates to a device, as defined above, which is fixed and formed by a plastic (PA polyamide) or metal structure which, being supported by a special structure that is fixed according to current technical standards to the body of the appliance on the air suction side, is positioned in the centre of the appliance or at least on the same longitudinal line of the motor shaft which is the fulcrum of the suction fan, placed externally in respect of the fan and covering the fulcrum of the fan with its widest part. A device that Is characterised by having the shape of a hollow convex truncated cone, where the narrowest part is placed towards the outside of the appliance and is anchored to the anchorage structure connected to the shell of the appliance, while the widest part extends toward the interior; the longitudinal axis will be in continuity with the longitudinal axis of the suction fan of the appliance. The purpose of this invention Is to activate inside the appliance an automatic mechanical filter that first deflects the circulation of aspirated air and dust info a duct shaped like a hollow convex truncated cone, and then binds the dust against the walls of the hollow convex truncated cone device until the accumulated mass is ejected by the acceleration that the air flow undergoes within the duct, which due to Its convex truncated cone shape triggers the Venturi effect and so causes the immediate ejection of the accumulated dirt towards the outside of the appliance in the opposite direction of the air suction. The fact that the device is placed in a position that overlaps the suction fan, so that its axis is on the same line with the longitudinal axis
of the motor shaft of the suction fan of the appliance, generates a cyclonic depression in the area corresponding to the widest base of the hollow convex truncated cone, which transports and compresses the foreign matter (dust, hair, grains, etc.} on the internal walls of the hollow convex truncated cone of the device. Because the dirt in the air follows the generated airflow, each time the appliance is used, the device acts so as to add and accumulate the "new" dirt on the internal walls of the device, pushing the "old" dirt towards the outside, i.e. towards the top of the hollow convex truncated cone. Since the dirt is forced into a hollow section, it is pushed forward until ii exits from the opposite side of the suction side, emptying again the duct system that resumes its cyclonic filtering function. More specifically, the purpose of this invention is to provide a device that is able to protect the appliance and its internal parts from dirt drawn within it by the fan and to divert the aspirated airflows Into a duct, which corresponds to the invention; in this manner, the dust will also be diverted towards the convex truncated cone part of the device and in this position it will be compressed on its wails until it is removed by the acceleration of the airflow generated therein, An additional purpose of the invention is to provide a device, as defined above, which thanks to the guaranteed internal cleaning can improve and ensure longer motor life by allowing a continuously optimal and constant rotation, and thus greater efficiency of the appliance. Finally, the anchorage of the device at several points ensures not only that it remains equidistant and centred with respect to the motor shaft, but also provides Increased resistance in case of blows. These and other purposes are achieved by the protection device to avoid the deposit of dirt inside hairdryers. Thanks to the device of this invention, which operates as a mechanical filter, the appliance is protected from dirt and, consequently, from faults and wear-and-tear. To the knowledge of the inventor, the current state-of-the-art of hairdryers does not include the use of devices such as that covered by this invention to protect against aspirated dirt and to create a rationalised outflow of the airflows. There are inventions with the same purpose, which was achieved with the use of separators of the air drawn Inside to direct the air towards the discharge areas of the collected dirt, referred to in the patent published under number 20030140788 B2 of 31 July 2003. Another invention referred to in the patent published in Germany as DE 19834376 A1 generates a cyclonic flow in the motor. No invention, as far as is known, involves the creation of a duct able to eject the sucked-in dust and dirt in the direction opposite to the suction flow, The innovation of the device is given by the shape and position of the device. The form of the invention in its functional part operates as partial coverage of the area where a cyclonic circulation inside the appliance is created, acting as an induced outflow duct, and then it operates as an accelerator of the generated airflow towards the outside through the depression created by the curvature and inclination of the walls of the device in the shape of a hollow convex truncated
cone. The device exploits the deviation of the airflows created inside the appliance by the suction so as to cause the particles of materials to be deposited on the internal surfaces of the appliance capable of self-cleaning or of allowing easy cleaning, operating as a mechanical filter of the intake air and enhancing the efficiency of the appliance. The constructive and functional characteristics of the device which is the object of this invention correspond to a functional part formed by the hollow convex truncated cone made of plastic (PA polyamide) or metal. The structural part is given by the anchorage of the device which is the object of this invention, at the narrowest part of the hollow convex truncated cone, to the structure of the perforated cover of the suction side of the appliance in a fixed manner so as to constitute a single and integral body with said structure, The device, in its narrowest cross-section of the hollow convex truncated cone, will present itself connected and In structural continuity with the external mask of the appliance and with the remaining part of the hollow convex truncated cone extended out towards the fan, as if hanging onto the structure. Please note that the structural part does not have any innovative elements, since if corresponds to the current state-of-the-art, so as to act as mask of the opening of the appliance with the device which Is object of the present invention embedded in a position such as to ensure the continuity between the line of the motor shaft of the suction fan of the appliance and the longitudinal axis of the device. The anchorage of the device to the structural part of the appliance - external mask - may include vertical support sections along the walls of the hollow convex truncated cone to act as buttresses of the convex walls of the hollow convex truncated cone. Alternatively, one may increase the thickness of the walls themselves of the device in order to prevent vibrations to the device or Its offset with respect to the fulcrum of the suction fan. The device does not have any structural functions, but only the function to convey the airflows inside the appliance into its interior, The length and width of the device are widely variable. Also the degree of inclination and the radius of curvature of the concave truncated cone walls of the device can be varied during the design phase, depending on the effect to be created, Any design modification to the degree of inclination and the radius of curvature of the concave truncated cone walls of the device will affect the depressions that are created and, therefore, the effectiveness of the suction of the dust towards the duct and then to the outside, The size of the device will vary depending on the appliance on which it Is fitted. In a normal hairdryer appliance, the height ranges from 2 cm to 5 cm and the diameter from 2 cm to 10 cm. The overlap between the motor shaft and the device must be such as to avoid contact. The constructive and functional characteristics of the device which Is the object of this invention can be better understood from the following detailed description, wherein reference is made to the attached tables of drawings that illustrate a preferred but not restrictive manner of constructing the said device. Figure 1
represents schematically, in plan view, the iongitudinal cross-section of the device, which shows the hollow convex truncated cone shape that includes the section of the wails of the device (H) and highlights the depression area thai the device creates within itself (Dh) and indicates the internal part of the wails where the dirt accumulates (P) before being expelled outside according to the flow indicated by Z, Figure 2 represents schematicaiiy some parts of the sections of an example appliance in which the device has been fitted (area C). Figure 3 represents schematicaiiy some parts of the sections of an example appliance in which the device has been fitted, identifiable in the figures at area D or F depending on the detail, Figure 4 represents schematically, In perspective view, the entire body of the device of this invention with the detail of the hollow convex truncated cone body (H), the common structure to which it is anchored and its positioning in the appliance. The construction methods of the structure to which the device is anchored are irrelevant, since the invention consists In having conceived a new body ihaf, if properly positioned as per the foregoing description, operates as a vacuvator and mechanical filter capable of collecting and expelling the dirt and dust aspirated from the appliance. The effectiveness of the device increases with the extension of its suction area (area Dh in Figure 1), i.e. of the base corresponding to the widest part of the truncated cone: the more it overlaps the area below and reduces the external entry channel, the more consistent the suction effect will be, as shown in Figure 4. Although the invention has been described above with particular reference to one of its forms of realisation, given by way of example and limited to that, numerous modifications and variations will be apparent to experts of the branch in light of the foregoing description. This invention, therefore, intends to encompass all modifications and variations that fall within the spirit and the protective scope of the following claims.
