METHOD TO PROVIDE A PERSONALIZED VEHICLE SEAT
BACKGROUND
[0001] The invention relates to a method to provide a personalized vehicle seat comprising a personalized vehicle seat cushion providing a seating surface for a vehicle occupant of the vehicle seat.
[0002] In the early days of automotive vehicles, the vehicle seats provided little comfort to the vehicle occupant. Early vehicle seats were only piled material covered with a covering material such as leather or the like. Later seats used springs, but for many years, only the seat style and type of covering material changed.
[0003] Recognizing that many drivers required back support to compensate for back pain brought on through disease, injury or age, supplemental lumbar support elements were offered.
[0004] Some lumbar supports were adjustable by the user, however, the multiple adjustability, e.g. in different directions, requires an important effort and involves comparably high costs.
SUMMARY
[0005] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an improved method to provide a personalized vehicle seat, the vehicle seat comprising a personalized vehicle seat cushion providing a seating surface for a vehicle occupant of the vehicle seat.
[0006] The object of the present invention is achieved by a method to provide a personalized vehicle seat comprising a personalized vehicle seat cushion providing a seating surface for a vehicle occupant of the ve icle seat,
wherein the personalized vehicle seat cushion comprises a seat cushion part and/or a back cushion part,
wherein the personalized vehicle seat cushion comprises at least a first cushion layer and a second cushion layer, the first cushion layer being positioned closer to the occupant of the vehicle seat than the second cushion layer,
wherein the first and second cushion layers are shaped according to an OEM specified shape and/or according to a personalized formulation and/or a personalized pattern. - wherein in a first step of the method, at least a first vehicle testing seat and a second vehicle testing seat are provided, the first vehicle testing seat having a first testing seat cushion having a first testing formulation and/or a first testing pattern of the first and second cushion layers, the second vehicle testing seat having a second testing seat cushion having a second testing formulation and/or a second testing pattern of the first and second cushion layers,
- wherein in a second step of the method, the at least first and second vehicle testing seats are compared, and
~ wherein in a third step of the method, the personalized vehicle seat is provided with the personalized vehicle seat cushion having the personalization formulation and/or
personalization pattern out of at least the following three possibilities:
- according to the first testing formulation and/or first testing pattern or
~ according to the second testing formulation and/or second testing pattern or ~ according to a third testing pattern, the third testing formulation and/or third testing pattern being a modified formulation and or a modified pattern, both with respect to the first testing formulation and/or the first testing pattern and with respect to the second testing formulation and/or the second testing pattern.
[0007] It is thereby advantageously possible that a user of a vehicle seat can be provided with a personalized seat cushion that is more adaptive to the comfort requirements of the vehicle user. Additionally, it is possible to provide such an enhanced degree of personalization to the user of the vehicle seat at a value.
[0008] According to the present invention, the personalized vehicle seat comprises the personalized vehicle seat cushion which provides the seating surface for a vehicle occupant of the vehicle seat. The personalized vehicle seat cushion comprises the seat cushion part and/or a back cushion part on which the vehicle occupant is seated. All vehicle seat cushions according to the present invention comprise at least one layer of foam or a first cushion layer and a second cushion layer, the first cushion layer being positioned closer to the occupant of the vehicle seat than the second cushion layer, i.e. the first cushion layer is typically the upper layer and the second cushion layer is typically the lower layer because typically the vehicle seat occupant is sitting on the top side or top surface of the vehicle seat cushion.
[0009] In order to provide the personalization of the vehicle seat, i.e. the personalization of the vehicle seat cushion or seat cushion part and/or a back cushion part, it is typically useful to provide at least a first vehicle testing seat and a second vehicle testing seat. The first vehicle testing seat has a first testing seat cushion having a first testing formulation and/or first testing pattern of the first and second cushion layers (of the first testing seat cushion), and the second vehicle testing seat has a second testing seat cushion having a second testing formulation and/or second testing pattern of the first and second cushion layers (of the second testing seat cushion). This corresponds to a first step of the inventive method of the present invention.
[0010] Of course, it is possible and preferred according to the present invention that additional vehicle testing seats (i.e. a third vehicle testing seat having a fourth testing formulation and/or fourth testing pattern, and/or a fourth vehicle testing seat having a fifth testing formulation and/or fifth testing pattern and so forth) is provided. In any case the at least first and second vehicle testing seats are compared or tried by a prospective vehicle occupant or other passenger of the vehicle seat. [0011] In a third step of the inventive method according to the present invention, the personalized vehicle seat is provided with the personalized vehicle seat cushion having the personalization formulation and/or personalization pattern, the personalization pattern corresponding either to the first testing formulation and/or first testing pattern or to the second testing formulation and/or second testing pattern or to a third testing formulation and/or third testing pattern wherein the third testing formulation and/or third testing pattern is a formulation and/or pattern which is modified with respect to both the first testing formulation and/or first testing pattern and the second testing formulation and/or second testing pattern. Of course, in the presence of a third and/or fourth vehicle testing seat in the second step of the inventive method, the personalization formulation and/or personalization pattern corresponds either to the first testing formulation and/or first testing pattern or to the second testing formulation and/or second testing pattern or to the fourth testing formulation and/or fourth testing pattern or to the fifth testing formulation and/or fifth testing pattern or to the third testing formulation and/or third testing pattern, wherein the third testing formulation and/or third testing pattern is a formulation and/or pattern which is modified with respect to the first, second, fourth, and fifth testing formulation and/or first, second, fourth, and fifth testing pattern.
[0012] According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the ratio of relative thicknesses of the first and second cushion layers varies, on the seating surface of the personalized vehicle seat cushion, according to the personalization formulation and/or personalization pattern.
[0013] This means that the thickness of the first and second cushion layers may vary according to a specific formulation and/or a specific pattern for all vehicle seats, i.e. the first and second vehicle testing seats, etc. Especially, the relative thickness of the first and second cushion layers of the respective seat cushion parts and/or a back cushion part (of the first vehicle testing seat and/or of the second vehicle testing seat and/or of the personalized vehicle testing seat, etc.) varies on the (seating) surface of the seat cushion part and/or a back cushion part in a specified manner, i.e. according to a specific formulation and/or a specific pattern. It is thereby advantageously possible to provide an important variability of the seating characteristics of the seat cushion part and/or a back cushion part depending on the respective formulation and/or pattern of the seat cushion part and/or a back cushion part.
[0014] It is furthermore preferred according to the present invention that the first testing seat cushion has the first testing formulation and/or testing pattern of relative thicknesses of the first and second cushion layers, and wherein the second testing seat cushion has the second testing formulation and/or testing pattern of relative thicknesses of the first and second cushion layers.
[0015] It is herewith advantageously possible to provide different seating characteristics to a prospective vehicle seat occupant.
[0016] According to a further preferred embodiment of the present invention, the first, second and/or third testing formulation and/or first, second and/or third testing pattern is a modified formulation and/or a modified pattern having a personalized comfort, thus providing enhanced variability and comfort personalization features.
[0017] Furthermore, it is preferred - according to a further embodiment of the present invention - that the vehicle seat cushion is integrated with a trim cover of the vehicle seat cushion. [0018] Thereby it is advantageously possible to integrate further functionalities of the vehicle seat in the cushion part.
[0019] According to a further preferred embodiment of the present invention, the vehicle seat cushion can be, but is not limited to integration with at least one of the following:
- a vehicle seat heating element,
~ a vehicle seat cooling element,
- a vehicle seat wiring element,
- an integrated trim cover,
- a vehicle seat with a personalized trim cover,
- an integrated headrest. [0020] By means of such an embodiment of the present invention, especially a heating functionality and/or a cooling functionality and/or a functionality enabling the electrical connection of an additional element is possible to be integrated in the seat cushion part and/or a back cushion part of the inventive vehicle seat. [0021] It is furthermore preferred according to another embodiment of the present invention
— that the first cushion layer comprises one material and/or wherein the second cushion layer comprises one material, especially that the first cushion layer comprises a foam material and/or wherein the second cushion layer comprises a foam material and/or
~ that the first cushion layer comprises a plurality of materials and/or wherein the second cushion layer comprises a plurality of materials, especially that the plurality of materials of the first cushion layer and/or of the second cushion layer comprise a foam material and an additional material such as an injected or infused gel material. [0022] Thereby it is advantageously possible to provide a multitude of different possibilities in realizing the inventive personalized vehicle seat.
