- the structure currently used for a fuselage consists, on the one hand, of a coating with integrated stringers, co-glued or co-cured and, on the other hand, of frames, floating or complete, which are manufactured separately and which are subsequently riveted to the fuselage lining.
- US 5,242,523 describes such a structure.
- An essential element of that structure is that in that fuselage that is configured by panels delimited by said frames and said stringers, which are oriented longitudinally, the passage between stringers is smaller than the passage between frames. - the mentioned objects are achieved by a method of manufacturing a section of the fuselage comprising the following steps:

- a second effect of the circumferential orientation of the panels is that it facilitates the transfer of circumferential loads to the frames, consequently reducing the level of circumferential load on the panels.
- a third effect of the circumferential orientation of the panels is that it allows greater integration of the structure and a reduction in costs.
- the "multiframe" structure of the fuselage according to the present invention corresponding to the circumferential orientation of the fuselage panels has the following advantages:
- the fuselage 1 1 comprises a covering 13 structured to withstand longitudinal, transverse loads and, mainly, cut in the plane.
- the stringers 14 are used (in a smaller number than those that would be used with longitudinally oriented panels) and to stabilize it with buckling, without increasing its thickness, avoiding the overall instability of the fuselage 1 1 they use the frames 17.
- the liner 13 stiffened by the stringers 14 assumes the longitudinal load flows of the fuselage, while the frames 17 mostly support the transverse loads of the fuselage and maintain the aerodynamic surface.
- Both the coating 13 and the stringers 14 and the frames 17 are formed of a composite material that can be both carbon fiber and glass fiber with thermosetting or thermoplastic resin.
- a possible manufacturing and assembly solution would be to manufacture the one-piece frames (360 °) to avoid the joints between different sections, to manufacture the coatings (in two or more sections) on the other hand, and to join said coatings to the frames, taking advantage of the greater flexibility of said lining by having fewer longitudinal stiffening elements (stringers).
- This fuselage structure is valid for any type of stringer section (T, omega, J, etc.) and frames (in C, I, omega, etc).
- the manufacturing process of a section of the fuselage 1 1 with the structure that we have just described thus comprises the following steps: a) Provide the frames 17 as complete pieces. b) Provide in two or more sections the covering 13 with the stringers 14 attached thereto.
- the internal structure of the fuselage 1 1 with complete frames 17 avoids problems of tolerances in the joints between the sections of the lining, reducing possible deviations from the theoretical aerodynamic contour. For its part, reducing the number of stringers 14 decreases the number of intersections with the frames 17 thereby facilitating the assembly of the fuselage section 1 1.
- Figure 4 shows the internal structure of the fuselage comprising frames 17 with double T-shaped cross-section and T-shaped stringers 14 with a large opening 29 intended to receive, for example, a torsion box of a horizontal stabilizer of glue, to a drawer of the support element of the motors or other components in which two beams 15 act as a frame for said opening.
- the frames 17 and the stringers 14 may have cross sections with different shapes, such as C, I or J shapes.
- the fuselage 1 1 comprises a lining 13 structured to support longitudinal, transverse loads and, mainly, cut in the plane.
- the beams 15 are used, and to stabilize it with buckling, without increasing its thickness, avoiding the overall instability of the fuselage 1 1, the frames 17 are used.
- the beams 15 together with the lining 13 assume mainly the longitudinal load flows of the structure, while the frames 17 mostly support the transverse loads of the structure and maintain the aerodynamic surface.
- the internal structure of the fuselage formed by complete frames 17 and beams 15 is manufactured, as we will see, as a single piece to minimize the joints between elements that compose it and on which the lining will finally be riveted (independently manufactured in two or more parts), thereby greatly simplifying the assembly process and thereby reducing costs. It is, therefore, a highly integrated internal fuselage structure, in which the frames 17 and beams 15 form a grid that has an effective structure in terms of strength and stiffness that facilitates the optimization in weight of the fuselage assembly. In addition, such an integrated configuration, in which there are no stringers, means a saving in assembly costs.

- the frames 17 avoid the overall instability of the fuselage 1 1, distribute and support together with the liner 13 the circumferential loads and can have introductions loading spaces and, finally, the grid formed by frames 17 and beams 15 joined at their intersections, together with the lining 13 supports the torsion loads.
- the beams 15 also provide support to the souls of the frames 17, so that no additional stiffeners are needed to prevent the buckling of said souls, thereby reducing the number of auxiliary parts and the number of joints between parts and its manufacturing process is simplified accordingly.
- the frames 17 do not need to have holes (“mouseholes”) for their passage so that they are not structurally penalized and the reheating of said holes is eliminated from the manufacturing process.
- the internal grid resulting from the union of frames 17 and beams 15 is a structure more tolerant of damage than the conventional configuration, so that, in the event of severe damage to a part of the fuselage, the remaining structure is better able to withstand solicitations to which it is subject without being catastrophic.
- Both the coating 13 and the beams 15 and the frames 17 are made of a composite material that can be both carbon fiber and glass fiber with thermosetting or thermoplastic resin.
- Figure 5 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention in which the internal structure of the fuselage comprises frames 17 with omega-shaped cross-section and beams 15 with double-T-shaped cross-section.
- frames 17 and beams 17 may have cross sections with different shapes, such as C, I or J shapes.
- the present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing the fuselage with the structure that we have just described in which it proceeds, firstly, to the separate manufacture of the internal structure and the lining and, secondly, to joining the lining (divided, where appropriate, into panels) to the internal structure by rivets.
- the manufacturing process of the internal structure in complete sections (360 °) or in two or three sectors, is based on the provision on a tool in the form of the grid of complete pre-forms or in parts of the frames 17 and beams 15 and in their co-curing in a single curing cycle or in co-gluing between beams 15 and frames 17 previously subjecting a first to the first or last curing cycle.
- pre-forms of stabilizer ribs of the frames 17 in the crossing areas must also be prepared with the beams 15.
- the aforementioned grid is created based on individual elements that are already integrated from its stack and assume various structural functions. This means having all the advantages that an integrated structure entails, but it also means greater manufacturing cost savings by having fewer independent parts, since the composite material requires a process of quite expensive curing, whereby having fewer independent parts reduces the number of curing cycles and thus the costs, while ensuring that there is a more uniform passage of loads between the elements that make up the structure.
- the manufacture of the internal structure may require additional tooling dependent on the specific shapes of the cross sections of beams 15 and frames 17 to provide the proper connection and continuity of loads at their crossings, as well as introducing "rowings" (unidirectional fiber strips that must be of the same material as that used in the stacks or of a compatible material) to avoid gaps and thus ensure optimal co-curing.
- the manufacture of the coating it is considered convenient to manufacture it in two or more parts to facilitate its attachment to the internal structure.
