Abstract
The invention relates to an electrical power distribution system for a motor vehicle, comprising a first partial power distribution system providing a first power distribution system voltage and a first power storage unit and at least one electrical consumer, and a second partial power distribution system providing a second power distribution system voltage and a second power storage unit and at least one electrical consumer. Said two partial power distribution systems can be selectively coupled to each other by means of a controllable electrical coupling device. A generator driven by the vehicle provides electrical energy to the power distribution system via the first partial power distribution system and is sized so that the value of the first power distribution system voltage at the maximum generator excitation exceeds that of the second power distribution system voltage by a multiple. According to the invention, the first power storage unit is formed from at least two storage elements that can be selectively switched between a series and a parallel connection by means of a controllable switching device.
