Abstract
Devices and methods are disclosed for acquiring images and looking for objects within that image and alerting a user as to found objects. The preferred embodiment is the detection of red traffic signal lights as viewed from an automobile moving on a roadway and alerting a driver when a traffic signal is found. A second embodiment would be used to detect the green lights of traffic signals. The devices and methods are used to detect circular objects in the preferred embodiment. Transforms could also be used to detect other shaped objects and objects of colors other than red and green. The devices provide means to input operating parameters and alert drivers when target objects are found. Embodiments are included to improve the reliability and reduce false positive detection by rechecking color intensities within the coordinates of the found object.
