Description

Description
OVEN WITH ILLUMINATION SWITCH INTEGRATED IN A DOOR HINGE
[0001] The present invention relates to an oven whereof the cooking chamber is illuminated when its door is opened.
[0002] The doors of the ovens are opened during cooking to monitor whether or not the foods therein are cooked. When the door is opened, illumination of the cooking cavity is important for visual inspection of cooking control. Consequently, in general a switch is provided on the surface of the oven body whereon the door is seated and the switch is actuated by opening, closing of the door thereby turning on and off the lamp inside the oven. A hole is bored on the body for mounting the switch thereon and the switch is mounted such that an outward protrusion is formed. However, in this implementation, the switch is deformed in time due to faulty utilization. Moreover, the cables which deliver signals to the control unit upon actuation of the switch, create difficulties in terms of being supported inside the body when the switch is further away from the control unit.
[0003] In the state of the art European Patent Application no EP0506633, an oven is described which comprises a micro switch that is actuated upon opening of the door thereby illuminating the interior volume. In this embodiment wherein the switch remains inside the body and is actuated by opening, closing of the door, a switching device is disposed on the front wall of the oven, near one of two pivoting hinges.
[0004] The aim of the present invention is the realization of an oven wherein the cooking chamber is illuminated when the door is opened.
[0005] The oven realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is explicated in the claims.
[0006] The oven of the present invention comprises a switch arranged on the hinge body that is secured on the body, which maintains the lamp illuminating the cooking chamber to be turned on when in the active position and the lamp to be turned off when in the passive position. The switch is changed to the active or passive position by an actuator that moves forward, backward with the motion delivered from a transmission means that moves depending on the motion of the hinge arm, situated on the hinge body, which moves together with the door. As the switch is changed to the active position, the lamp that illuminates the cooking chamber is turned on and when the switch is changed to the passive position, the lamp is turned off. Accordingly, the illumination of the cooking chamber is guaranteed at every opening of the door since changing the switch to the active or passive position depends on the opening, closing motion of the door.
[0007] In an embodiment of the present invention, the oven comprises a spring disposed inside the hinge body. The transmission means is connected to one end of the spring and makes a rectilinear motion together with the spring during opening, closing of the door. One end of the actuator is fastened to the transmission means and the actuator makes a rectilinear motion together with the transmission means during opening, closing of the door. Since the other end of the actuator is directed to the switch, the switch is changed to the active or passive position with the rectilinear motion made by the actuator during opening, closing of the door.
[0008] In another embodiment of the present invention, the transmission means is configured as a cylindrical pin.
[0009] In another embodiment of the present invention, the switch is disposed on a carrier secured on the hinge body. The switch is borne on the hinge body by means of the carrier.
[0010] In another embodiment of the present invention, the actuator is borne on the hinge body by means of at least two opposite guides that clasp the actuator from both sides. The guides both direct the actuator toward the switch and also avoid any sideways deviation of the actuator from the direction of the rectilinear movement of the actuator during opening, closing of the door.
[0011] In another embodiment of the present invention, one end of the actuator is passed through a slit situated on the hinge body and directed toward the switch.
[0012] In another embodiment of the present invention, the actuator is L shaped.
[0013] In another embodiment of the present invention, the oven comprises a channel arranged on the first hinge, wherein at least some portion of the transmission means is seated and moves therein while the door opens and closes.
[0014] By means of the present invention, changing the lamp illuminating the cooking chamber into the active or passive position is made to be dependent on the opening or closing motion of the door. Accordingly, the cooking chamber can be illuminated at every opening of the door during cooking thereby the foods therein can be inspected whether or not they are cooked.

[0024] An oven (1) of the present invention comprises:
• a cooking chamber (2) wherein the foods to be cooked are placed,
• a body (3) surrounding the cooking chamber (2),
• a frame shaped front wall (4) that forms the front portion of the body (3),
• a door (5) situated on the front wall (4) allowing access into the cooking chamber (2) and openable by rotating in the horizontal axis,
• two housings (9) arranged on both sides of the front wall (4) ,
• two hinges (6) having a hinge body (7) secured on the body (3) by passing through the housing (9) and a hinge arm (8) with one end fixed to the hinge body (7) and the other end to the door (5) and
• a lamp (10) for illuminating the cooking chamber (2). [0025] The oven (1) furthermore comprises:
• a switch (13) disposed on the hinge body (7), which turns on the lamp (10) when in the active position and turns off the lamp (10) when in the passive position,
• a transmission means (11) situated on the hinge body (7), whereof the position on the hinge body (7) changes depending on the movement of the hinge arm (8) and
• an actuator (14) connected to the transmission means (11) which changes the switch (13) to the active or passive position with the motion received from the transmission means (11) during opening, closing of the door (5).
[0026] Access is provided to the cooking chamber (2) as the door (5) disposed on the front wall (4) opens by rotating forward around a horizontal axis whereby it is fastened to the body (3). The opening, closing motion of the door (5) is maintained by the relative movement of the hinge body (7) and the hinge arm (8) on both sides of the front wall (4) with respect to each other. The hinge body (7) is secured on the body (3) by passing through the housings (9) on both sides of the side wall. The hinge arm (8), with one end fixed to the hinge body (7) and the other end to the door (5), makes a rotational movement together with the door (5) during opening, closing of the door (5). The transmission means (11) makes a rectilinear motion due to the horizontal component of the angular movement made by the hinge arm (8) during opening, closing motion of the door (5). The actuator (14) is disposed on the hinge body (7) such that one end is connected to the transmission means (11) and the other end extends toward the switch (13). The end of the actuator (14) extending toward the switch (13) moves forward and backward by means of the motion transferred to the actuator (14) through the transmission means (11) by the hinge arm (8) that moves together with the door (5) during opening, closing of the door (5). While the door (5) is closed, the end of the actuator (14) extending to the switch (13) contacts the switch (13) and maintains the switch (13) to remain in the passive position. When the switch (13) is in the passive position, the lamp
(10) that illuminates the cooking chamber (2) is not turned on. The end of the actuator (14) extending toward the switch (13) moves away from the switch (13) such that its contact with the switch (13) is interrupted during opening of the door (5). As the end of the actuator (14) is no longer in contact with the switch (13), the switch (13) changes from the passive position to the active position. As the switch (13) changes to the active position, the lamp (10) that illuminates the cooking chamber (2) is turned on. Similarly, during the closing of the door (5), the end of the actuator (14) extending to the switch (13) moves toward the switch (13) by means of the motion transferred to the actuator (14) through the transmission means
(11) by the hinge arm (8). Upon closing of the door (5), the end of the actuator (14) extending to the switch (13) contacts the switch (13) and the switch (13) changes from the active position to the passive position. As the switch (13) changes to the passive position, the lamp (10) that illuminates the cooking chamber (2) is turned off. Accordingly, turning on and off of the lamp (10) is made to be dependent on the opening, closing of the door (5) thereby guaranteeing illumination of the cooking chamber (2) each time the door (5) is opened. [0028] In an embodiment of the present invention, the oven (1) comprises a spring (16) disposed inside the hinge body (7) that lengthens and shortens during opening, closing of the door (5). One end of the spring (16) is fixed to the end of the hinge body (7). The other end of the spring (16) is connected to the transmission means (11) that makes a rectilinear motion with the motion transferred from the hinge arm (8) which moves together with the door (5), during opening, closing of the door (5). The transmission means (11) moves forward, backward during opening, closing of the door (5). By fastening one end of the actuator (14) to the transmission means (11), the rectilinear motion of the transmission means (11) during opening, closing of the door (5) is transferred to the actuator (14). By directing the other end of the actuator (14) toward the switch (13), the switch (13) is changed to the active or passive position by the motion transferred from the transmission means (11) during opening, closing of the door (5). Accordingly, as the spring (16) stretches by means of the horizontal component of the angular movement created on the hinge arm (8) during opening of the door (5) the switch (13) changes to the active position with the rectilinear motion made by the transmission means (11) and the actuator (14).
[0029] Accordingly, the cooking chamber (2) is illuminated by enabling the lamp
(10) to be turned on. Similarly, during closing of the door (5), the spring (16) is compressed by means of the movement transferred by the hinge arm (8) to the hinge body (7) hence moving the transmission means (11) and the actuator (14) and thereby changing the switch (13) to the passive position. The lamp (10) is turned off when the switch (13) changes to the passive position.
[0030] In another embodiment of the present invention, the transmission means
(11) is configured as a cylindrical pin.
[0031] In another embodiment of the present invention, the oven (1) comprises a carrier (12) secured on the hinge body (7), whereon the switch (13) is disposed. By means of the carrier (12) the switch (13) is borne on the hinge body (7).
[0032] In another embodiment of the present invention, the oven (1) comprises at least two guides (17) arranged to be opposite to one another on the hinge body (7) that bear the actuator (14) by clasping from both sides and direct toward the switch (13). By means of the guides (17), deviation from the movement direction is avoided during the rectilinear motion of the actuator (14) during opening, closing of the door (5).
[0033] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the oven (1) comprises a channel (15), situated on the hinge body (7) wherein at least some portion of the transmission means (11) is seated such that it extends outward from the hinge body (7) and moves therein while the door (5) opens and closes.
[0034] In another embodiment of the present invention, the oven (1) comprises a slit (18) situated on the hinge body (7), where through one end of the actuator (14) is inserted to be extended toward the switch (13).
[0035] In another embodiment of the present invention, the actuator (14) is L shaped.
[0036] By means of the present invention, turning on and off of the lamp (10) illuminating the cooking chamber (2) is made to be dependent on the opening and closing motion of the door (5). Accordingly, illumination of the cooking chamber (2) is guaranteed at each case the door (5) is opened.
[0037] It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited by the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These should be considered within the scope of the protection postulated by the claims of the present invention.
