Abstract

A system and method for providing multimedia content to a television set through a communication protocol. The method includes steps for providing multimedia content to one or more television sets (104a,b,c,d), where the multimedia content is provided by a network (108), and the network (108) provides the multimedia content through a communication - protocol. The method includes receiving a broadcast and video-on-demand (VOD) signal from the network (108) on a general purpose computer. The method further includes decrypting the broadcast and video-on-demand signal into a multimedia signal by application software installed on the general purpose computer (102a,b,c). Further, the method includes transmitting the multimedia signal to the one or more television sets. Still further, the method includes receiving a request for multimedia content, where the multimedia content is requested by a user of at least one television set of the one or more television sets (104a,b,c,d), and the multimedia content is selected from the multimedia signal. Finally, the method includes playing the multimedia content, where the multimedia content is displayed on the one or more television sets (104a,b,c,d).
