Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for determining an identifier of a personality indicative content, said method comprising: receiving a personality indicative content comprising a plurality of indicative expressions; parsing said personality indicative content for said indicative expressions; correlating said personality indicative content with one or more predetermined profiles, each of said predetermined profiles comprising a plurality of significative expressions; and based upon the outcome of said correlation determining an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content. The present invention further relates to a method for retrieving a personality indicative content using an identifier, said method comprising: receiving an identifier associated with a predetermined personality indicative content; and providing said personality indicative content. Furthermore, the present invention relates to an apparatus, a system, a user interface, and a computer program product for implementation of the invention according to said methods.

METHOD, APPARATUS, SYSTEM, USER INTERFACE AND COMPUTER PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR USE WITH MANAGING CONTENT

Technical Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a method for managing personalized content of communication terminals.

The present invention further relates to an apparatus, a system, a user interface, and a computer program product for implementing the method.

Background of the Invention There is a need for providing users of communication terminals with a better tie-in to online social networking pages or people communities. Internet users, especially of younger generations, are making these the centre of their social life. In order to meet the demands of the connected society of today, there is an increasing need for providing functional and attractive services and solutions to communication terminals, especially with regards to communicative capabilities . The dictionary, always being available to a user, is a key tool in communications. Among its advantages, a dictionary for instance provides intelligent solutions for efficiently composing messages and for spelling correction. With increased functionality and far-reaching enhancements, it is expected that the dictionary will become a part of a user's online and messaging personality.

Dictionaries for use with mobile communication terminals that are available today include pre-installed dictionaries with common words.

It is therefore a problem to provide further aid in handling dictionaries . Summary of the Invention

An object of the present invention is to wholly or partly overcome the above disadvantages and drawbacks of the prior art. More specifically, it is an object to

5 provide a method for enhancing communication with communication terminals, particularly messaging.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide improved message composing support to users of communication terminals.

10 Another object of the present invention is to enhance the dictionaries used in currently available communication terminals.

A further object of the present invention is to provide solution for determining a qualitative descriptor

Hereby a convenient solution to obtaining a qualitative descriptor of a personalized content is provided. The wording "identifier" is to be construed as a profile indicator being determined from the outcome of the correlation between the personality indicative content and the predetermined profiles. Each of the predetermined profiles comprise a number of words, expressions, topics, and/or quotes significant for a certain generalized or stereotypical profile such as a sociolect, a music genre, a life style... — The wording "profile indicator" is to be construed as indicating personality, or more specifically, being indicative or representative of a predetermined general or stereotypical profile or style of a person's lifestyle. The wording "personality indicative content" is to be construed as a data content comprising expressions indicative of a personality of a person. Each of said one or more predetermined profiles comprise a plurality of expressions significative of a certain personality of life style. A significative expression may comprise any combination from a group comprising of: words, expressions, quotes, playlists, or anything that can is indicative of a personality or life style. The wording "correlating" is to be construed as identifying expressions of the provided personality indicative content similar to or equivalent with expressions from said predetermined profiles. In an expedient embodiment according to the invention, the correlation involves parsing or scanning said personality indicative content for expressions. Furthermore, said parsing may involve identifying expressions from said personality indicative content and mapping said expressions with corresponding expressions of said predetermined profile. An advantage of this is that a user may get a qualitative descriptor to his or her personality or life style. In one embodiment according to the first aspect of the present invention, the method further comprises: providing a personal dictionary associated with said determined identifier; and sending said personal dictionary.

An advantage of this is that a user can provide a personality indicative content and receive a personal dictionary with a content correlated to said provided personality indicative content. In another embodiment according to the first aspect of the present invention, said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, a play list.

Said message may for instance be a Short Messaging Service (SMS), a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) or an e-mail .

Hence, in principle any textual creation can be used in determining a profile indicator. Thus, as an advantage, a user is given flexibility in the way he or she prefers to determine a profile indicator.

The above objects, together with numerous other objects, advantages and features, which will become evident from the below description, are accomplished according to a second aspect in accordance with the present invention by a method for retrieving a personality indicative content using an identifier, said method comprising: receiving an identifier associated with a predetermined personality indicative content; and providing said personality indicative content. Hence, a user may provide an identifier to access or retrieve a personality descriptive content.

As an advantage, retrieval of a particular personality descriptive content is rendered convenient and efficient. In one embodiment according to the second aspect of the present invention, said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, a play list. The above objects, together with numerous other objects, advantages and features, which will become evident from the below description, are accomplished according to a third aspect in accordance with the present invention by an apparatus comprising: a receiver arranged to receive a personality indicative content; a parser arranged to parse said personality indicative content for indicative expressions; a correlator arranged to correlate said indicative expressions with one or more predetermined profiles to find a most probable profile; and an output for an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content.

According to one embodiment of the third aspect of the present invention, the apparatus is a communication terminal or a server. Hence, as an advantage, the invention can be implemented in a mobile communication terminal and always be accessible to a user. Hence, since connection to a server is not necessary, an advantage of this is that access to the functionality is provided at any location independently of network coverage. A further advantage is that money can be saved since no data is transmitted over a network and data traffic charges hence are avoided.

Alternatively, a user can upload a personality indicative content to a server, which server may have access to a large collection of predetermined profiles. An advantage of this is that it is expedient and convenient for a user. Particularly, it is an advantage that the user may have a plurality of servers to choose from, the servers being provided by different service providers offering services with different content and different pricing.

In one embodiment according to the third aspect of the present invention, said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, a play list.

Alternatively, the apparatus may be any of a group comprising: a digital camera, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , a portable computer, a computer, or a gaming device .

The above objects, together with numerous other objects, advantages and features, which will become evident from the below description, are accomplished according to a fourth aspect in accordance with the present invention by a computer program product, such as a computer-readable medium, comprising software instructions that, when executed in an electronic apparatus, performs the method according to said first aspect of the present invention.

Hence, the invention may conveniently and advantageously be provided to data processing apparatus for efficiently implementing the method according to the first aspect of the present invention. In one embodiment according to the fifth aspect of the present invention, said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, a play list.

The above objects, together with numerous other objects, advantages and features, which will become evident from the below description, are accomplished according to a fifth aspect in accordance with the present invention by a system for determining an identifier of a personality indicative content, said system comprising a communication terminal, a server, and a communications network connecting said communication terminal and said server, wherein said server comprises: a receiver arranged to receive a personality indicative content from said communication terminal; a parser arranged to parse said personality indicative content for indicative expressions; a correlator arranged to correlate said indicative expressions with one or more predetermined profiles to find a most probable profile; and an output for an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content, and wherein said server is arranged to provide said output to said communication terminal . Hence, a system is provided that provides a convenient solution involving interaction between a communication terminal and a server in a communications network.

As an advantage, the system enables an efficient solution where the components are working nicely together to provide an efficient service for the user of a communication terminal.

The above objects, together with numerous other objects, advantages and features, which will become evident from the below description, are accomplished according to a sixth aspect in accordance with the present invention by a user interface comprising a display, and an input receiver, wherein said user interface is arranged to display a representation for a personality indicative content, receive as selection of said personality indicative content an input, display an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content. Hence, with a user interface, it is provided a convenient solution for handling personality indicative content and retrieving an identifier associated with said content. An advantage of this is that a user can easily access and administer relevant information for enabling said retrieval.

Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments

Figure 1 is a flow chart illustrating a method of an embodiment of the present invention describing the process for labelling the profile of a personal dictionary 100. In a first content receipt step 101, a personality indicative content comprising a plurality of indicative expressions is received.

In a parsing step 102, said personality indicative content is parsed for said indicative expressions.

In a correlation step 103, the personality- indicative content is correlated with one or more predetermined profiles, each of said predetermined profiles comprising a plurality of significative expressions.

Based upon the outcome of said correlation step 103, an identifier indicative of general personality characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content is determined in identifier determination step 104.

Optionally, the process may further comprise a personality dictionary provision step 105, and a sending step 106, in which a personality dictionary associated with said determined identifier is provided. Figure 2 is a flow chart illustrating a method of an embodiment of the present invention describing the process for retrieving a personality indicative content using an identifier 200.

In a first receiving step 201, an identifier associated with a predetermined personality indicative content is received, upon which, in a provision step 202, a personality indicative content is yielded in return.

Fig 3 schematically shows a mobile communication apparatus 300 according to an embodiment of the present invention. It should be noted that parts not contributing to the core of the invention are left out not to obscure the features of the present invention. The mobile communication apparatus comprises a processor 302, a user interface (UI) 304, a memory 306, a transmitter 312, a receiver 316, a parser (318), and a correlator (320).

The memory 306 holds program code for operation of applications of the mobile communication apparatus. The memory 306 also holds data used by the applications. Here, the memory 306 is depicted as a single unit. However, the memory can be two or more units, and/or divided in partitions. Preferably, program code for applications can be downloaded to the memory 306, and the downloaded program code can then be executed by the processor 302.

The user interface (UI) 304 comprises an input 310 and an output 308. The output 308 is arranged to present information to a user, such as text, images, audio, and/or video output related to a personality indicative content, or information related to the operation of extracting and correlating a personality indicative content. The output 308 is furthermore arranged to present an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content. The input 310 is arranged to receive input related to personality indicative content parsing requests, selecting among different personality indicative content. The transmitter 312 is arranged to transmit data and the receiver 316 is arranged to receive data to and from a mobile communication network, respectively. The receiver 316 is further arranged to receive a personality indicative content. The parser 318 is arranged to parse said personality indicative content for indicative expressions, and the correlator 320 is arranged to correlate said indicative expressions with one or more predetermined profiles to find a most probable profile. According to another embodiment, the invention is implemented in a server instead of a communication terminal. The arrangement then corresponds to the one described in connection with figure 3, although with the communication terminal replaced by a server.

A system architecture for managing a system 400 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown in Fig. 4. A Home Location Register (HLR) 402 contains a database (not shown) including relevant subscriber information for provision of telecommunication service. A CCITT specified network 404 interconnects the individual parts of the system 400. A Personality Identifier content gateway 406 is a switching unit routing a Personality Identifier (PI) content to a mobile communication apparatus 408-412. The PI content can comprise a personality identifier and dictionary in accordance to a determined personality identifier. A Personality Identifier Center 414 (PISC) and the Personality Identifier gateway 406 handles and routes the PI content between the PISC 414 and the network 404. From the network 404, the PI content is routed to the mobile communication apparatuses 408-412 via a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) 416 to a Base Station Controller (BSC) 417 and a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) 420, 421, or a Radio Network Controller (RNC) 418 and a Node B 422. Alternatively, the PI content is routed to the mobile communication apparatuses 408-412 via a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) 426, 428 to the BSC 417 and the BTS 420, 421, or the RNC 418 and the Node B 422, respectively. The BTS 420, 421 or the Node B 422 establish the air connection to the mobile communication apparatuses 408-412.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, a network operator or other third party company handling a PI content server 424 could offer a service for parsing, correlating and extracting expressions from a personalized dictionary content provided by for instance a mobile communication terminal. For example a network operator may have a PI content server 424 supporting a feature where the user may send a PI parsing request from his mobile communication apparatus 408-412 to the PI content server 424 by using a special phone number. This PI content server 424 automatically processes the request including parsing, extracting, and correlation of expressions from the personalized dictionary content. The PI content server 424 is responsible for returning a result to the communication terminal after processing the provided content. According to the invention, a user may upload a personal dictionary from for instance a mobile phone to a server. On the server, a plurality of sets of reference words are stored. Each of the sets comprises words and expressions representative of language used by a fictive, generalized profile such as Geek, Goth, Old Guy, Rocker etc. The reference words comprise commonly used words and expressions. The items of the personal dictionary are compared with the reference words, and a label for the . profile constituting the best match is returned to the user of the mobile phone.

The server is arranged to parse or scan the uploaded content for terms and phrases. The server is further arranged to identify topics and words, and to map these with a predefined profile. The profiles are stereotypical but should apply to a broad selection of lifestyles .

Once the profile is given, the server sends the related dictionary file to the user handset. The dictionary file is in a generic format. The user may store the personalized dictionary, instantly making it available for editing purposes.

As an alternative to uploading a personal dictionary, a user may also upload a message, web address or other textual creation as basis for a profile label.

Furthermore, as a complement or alternative, a user may further receive a personality dictionary fitting with the determined profile.

Alternatively, a user may further download a personality profile dictionary for any profile upon request for a certain profile. Hence, no further input is necessary from the user.

A profile may further be accompanied with a related playlist of media files such as music. Hence, a user wanting to share details of a song can find it from the dictionary.

Although the invention above has been described in connection with preferred embodiments of the invention, it will be evident for a person skilled in the art that several modifications are conceivable without departing from the invention as defined by the following claims.

Claims

1. A method for determining an identifier of a personality- indicative content, said method comprising:

- receiving a personality indicative content comprising a plurality of indicative expressions;

- parsing said personality indicative content for said indicative expressions;

- correlating said personality indicative content with one or more predetermined profiles, each of said predetermined profiles comprising a plurality of significative expressions; and based upon the outcome of said correlation

- determining an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

- providing a personal dictionary associated with said determined identifier; and

- sending said personal dictionary.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, and a play list.

4. A method for retrieving a personality indicative content using an identifier, said method comprising:

- receiving an identifier associated with a predetermined personality indicative content; and

- providing said personality indicative content.

5. The method according to claim 4, wherein said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, a play list.

6. An apparatus comprising:

- a receiver arranged to receive a personality indicative content;

- a parser arranged to parse said personality indicative content for indicative expressions;

- a correlator arranged to correlate said indicative expressions with one or more predetermined profiles to find a most probable profile; and

- an output for an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content.

7. The apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, a play list.

8. The apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said apparatus is a communication terminal or a server.

9. A computer program product, such as a computer-readable medium, comprising software instructions that, when executed in an electronic apparatus, performs the method according to claim 1.

10. The computer program product according to claim 10, wherein said personality indicative content comprises any of a group comprising: a personal dictionary, a message, a web address list, a play list.

11. A system for determining an identifier of a personality indicative content, said system comprising a communication terminal, a server, and a communications network connecting said communication terminal and said server, wherein said server comprises:

- a receiver arranged to receive a personality indicative content from said communication terminal;

- a correlator arranged to correlate said indicative expressions with one or more predetermined profiles to find a most probable profile; and - an output for an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content, and wherein said server is arranged to provide said output to said communication terminal.

12. A user interface comprising

- a display, and

- an input receiver, wherein said user interface is arranged to display a representation for a personality indicative content, receive as selection of said personality indicative content an input, display an identifier indicative of general characteristics of a person associated with said personality indicative content.
