Abstract

A wire to board connector with a mating detection feature includes a male wire connector (101) that is received by a female board connector (1). The housing (111) of the wire connector (101) has conductive portions (151) disposed thereon by conductive plating or other means. The female receptacle connector (1) is provided with one or more conductive strips, such as in the form of extensions (84) of conductive fitting nails portions (81). These conductive portions extend widthwise of the connector (1) and provide contact surfaces for the conductive portions (151) of the wire connector (101) to engage. The wire connector (101) conductive portion (151) may include raised members (115) that positively contact the extensions of the fitting nails (81) only when the wire connector (101) is fully inserted into the female connector (1).
