Abstract

A power amplifier capable of amplifying a signal whose signal band changes while improving a decrease in power efficiency even if the signal band changes scalably. A power amplifier (100) comprises amplitude amplifiers (101, 102) either of which is lower in the power efficiency because of having different amplifiable frequency bands and, at the same time, broader amplifiable frequency bands. A control unit (104) estimates the signal band of an envelope signal on the basis of band information on a baseband signal previously notified from the system side, selects either one of the amplitude amplifiers capable of amplifying the estimated signal band of the envelope signal from the amplitude amplifiers (101, 102), and further selects either one of the amplitude amplifiers having the lowest amplifiable frequency band out of the selected amplifiers to supply the envelope signal to the selected amplitude amplifier at the timing at which the signal band of the envelope signal switches.
