Description
Device for a rotating scrubbing-brush
The present invention relates to a device for a handheld scrubbing machine for floors and similar surfaces and that comprises at least one driven rotatable scrubbing-brush or similar floor-cleaning roller arranged to scrub the floor while simultaneously supplying liquid to the scrubbing-brush. There are problems when manually driven scrubbing machines are allowed to start in that the scrubbing-brush begins to rotate on the location where the machine is parked and that no scrub liquid then is supplied the scrubbing-brush before the start thereof. In that connection, the floor runs the risk of getting damaged by dry scrubbing resulting in severe damage. The brush is also worn if it is run against a dry base.
It is, per se, previously known to let spray bases such as, e.g., stone floors with water before the floor is ground by stone-processing rotating tools. The object thereby is to decrease dust formation and also to allow the tool to cool, which is entirely separated from the problem that arises with floor-scrubbing machines.
Therefore, the main object of the present invention is primarily to solve, among others, the problem mentioned above by simple and efficiently functioning means.
Said object is attained by means of a device according to the present invention, which essentially is characterized in that supply means for supplying scrub liquid to the area of said scrubbing-brush and the subjacent floor before starting the rotatable scrubbing-brush is arranged to be actuatable by a mechanism that effects the supply of scrub liq-
uid during a certain period of time before rotation of the scrubbing-brush starts.
The invention is described below in the form of a preferred embodiment example, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which
Fig. 1 shows a scrubbing machine according to the invention as seen laterally, and
Fig. 2 shows the machine as seen from below.
A device 1 for a manually actuatable, operator- handheld scrubbing machine 2, which is intended for scrubbing of floors 3 and similar substantially horizontal surfaces, and which comprises at least one rotatable scrubbing-brush 5 driven by a motor 4 or any similar floor-cleaning roller rotatably mounted around a vertical mounting axis 6, and which is arranged to scrub the floor 3 while simultaneously supplying liquid 7 to the scrubbing-brush 5, is schematically shown in the drawings. Said device 1 comprises a mechanism 9 that consists of supply means to allow the supply of scrub liquid 7 to the area 8 of said scrubbing-brush 5 and a subjacent floor 3 before starting the rotatable scrubbing-brush 5. Said mechanism 9 is arranged to effect the supply of scrub liquid 7 during a certain period of time before rotation of the scrubbing-brush 5 starts. Thereby, a good start for the machine 2 is obtained without the scrubbing-brush 5 being run dry and risking damag- ing subjacent floors 3 and also itself being worn.
Said supply mechanism 9 comprises a delay unit arranged to provide delay of the start of the rotation 10 of the scrubbing-brush. The delay unit consists in turn of a micro controller including a timer. Said delay unit is arranged so that it can actuate the electrically driven motor 11 of a pump 12 for supply of scrub liquid 7 when the set correct instant of time is reached.
The delay mechanism is arranged to start the flushing at between 5-10 s using much liquid 7, approx. 0,5 1/min, before the motor 4 that drives the scrubbing-brush 5 is actuated to start to rotate in the intended direction of rota- tion 10. Said delay mechanism is set at approx. 7 s, which means that the flushing with liquid 7 starts so much in advance before the scrubbing-brush 5 starts to rotate, and that the flushing, with maintained large quantity of liquid, continues approx. an additional 2 s when the brush 5 is started to rotate, and then the desired discharge of liquid can be selected, e.g., between five different values, and that suction of dirty scrub liquid 14 can start after starting of a pump 13 therefore .
It is also possible to select to allow scrub- bing for a certain period of time without suction of scrub liquid is carried out as fast as has been said above, e.g., in case of very dirty floors, if it is desired to scrub extra much on certain areas and using much flushing liquid 7.
Thus, a said scrubbing machine 2 supports pref- erably at least one tank 15 for storage of clean scrub liquid 7 as well as an electrically operating driving unit 4 and 11, respectively, for a scrubbing-brush 5 rotatably driven around a vertical axis 6 and a pump device 12 for supply of scrub liquid 7 to the scrubbing-brush 5 as well as a suction device 13, for instance a suction pump 13, for suction of slops 14 from the floor 3 within a suction protection formed by a circular stop 16, in the form of a plurality of turnably mounted flexible rubber or plastic tongues, and for storage of the slops in a separated tank 20. Supply of scrub liquid 7, which may consist of water mixed with a cleaning agent, e.g., soft soap, is arranged to be effected from the area of the central centre 5A of the scrubbing-brush via a conduit 17. Preferably, a said supply unit 12 is arranged to supply scrub liquid 7 to an area
18 entirely surrounded by the rotatable bristles, etc., 19 of the scrubbing-brush.
The scrub liquid 7 is preferably arranged to be sprayed out radially from the centre 5A of the scrubbing-brush, but the liquid 7 may simply also be arranged to flow out freely on the floor 3 at the area under said resting scrubbing-brush 5, if the machine 2 now is arranged to be held still before the scrubbing starts.
The function of the invention should have been understood with the aid of what has been described above and by means of the shown schematic drawings.
Naturally, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and shown in the accompanying drawings. Modifications are feasible, particularly as for the nature of the different parts, or by usage of equivalent technique, without deviating from the scope of protection of the invention, such as it is defined in the claims. As alternative, the machine may be arranged in a plurality of parts where a rear, so-called tank part may be detachably coupleable to said scrubbing-brush-supporting front part of the machine. It is then possible to easily supply new scrub liquid when the previous is finished by simply shifting tank parts. The driving is suitably carried out by electricity from the mains, which means that an electric cord connects to the machine 2 and the elec- trically driven units thereof, but also environmental-friendly battery operation or other operation may be feasible.
