Abstract
An extension lever to fit on and around any ratchet tensioner handle of various sizes comprising a round tubular pipe, one end of which is welded to a cross angle iron at right angle to the tubular pipe, each end of the cross angle iron is welded to a side angle iron, the side angle irons being parallel to the tubular pipe, the cross angle iron and the two parallel side angle irons being configured so that when in use the side angle irons slide over and on top of the sides of the ratchet handle, and the cross angle iron holds the top end of the ratchet handle horizontally, holding the ratchet handle firmly in place. The round tubular pipe is also welded on its either side near the cross angle iron to two flat plates at a 45 degree angle from and welded to each end of the cross angle iron giving the tubular pipe support when under tension.
Description
This apparatus mechanism that is named RatcheTensioner works in principle that it tensions any ratchet mechanism fitting into the RatcheTensioner that is tensioning a strap. The RatcheTensioner is made out of mild steel, two sides made of angle iron which measures 110mm in length x 30mm wide x 30mm in height x 5mm thick. The cross angle iron that joins onto the corner of each of the two side angle irons measures 126mm in length x 30mm wide x 30mm in height x 5mm thick. The round tubular pipe that joins on to the middle of the length of the cross angle iron is measured 380mm in length χ21.5mm wide x 21.5mm in height x2.5mm thick. The two side flat plates support the round tubular pipe. The flat plates on one end have a semi circle punched out 12mm in depth, this end joins onto and sits into the tubular pipe, at the opposite end of the flat plates are horizontal and joins onto the corners of the cross and side angle irons. The flat plates measure 100mm in length x 25mm in height x 5mm thick. The sticker that is placed on the middle of the tubular pipe is made from black vinyl with letters that spell RatcheTensioner all one word with a capital R and T with a logo surrounding two thirds of the word representing what the RatcheTensioner does . At the end of the tubular pipe there is a plastic handle grip inserted onto the tubular pipe made of flexible plastic which colour is black, this gives a grip at the end of the tubular pipe that is the handle. All the welding that is carried out to construct and engineer this apparatus mechanism is done by a mig welder using 0.8mm copper wire burned by propane gas. The RatcheTensioner after assembled is then dipped in acid and then dipped in yellow zinc coating which stops the mild steel from corroding. Then the logo sticker is attached and the black plastic hand grip is inserted onto the top end of the around tubular pipe handle.
The RatcheTensioner fights on and around any ratchet handle that varies in the same size of what can fit into the mouth of the RatcheTensiner. The side angle irons slide over and on top of the sides of the ratchet handle, the cross angle iron holds the top end of the ratchet handle horizontally, holding the ratchet handle firmly in place. The round tubular pipe is the lever that is welded to the cross angle iron, the two flat plates are welded on either side of the round tubular pipe at a 45 degree angle from the corner of each side of the cross angle iron giving the tubular pipe support when under tension, The RatcheTensioner will assist the ratchet in tensioning the strap by pulling the handle of the RatcheTensioner in the direction of movement of the ratchet which tightens the strap. The RatcheTensioner will give more power and less strain on the person that is tensioning the ratchet strap because of the fulcrum and leverage that the RatcheTensioner gives on the ratchet handle.
Modifications to RatcheTensioner
At some stage I will want to modify the apparatus mechanism named the RatcheTensioner, the flat mild steel plates 100mm in length x 25mm wide x 5mm thick that supports the round tubular handle might not be needed if a pressure test proves that the round tubular handle will be sufficient enough supported on its own.
If the flat iron plates are taken away in order to secure the round iron pipe that is the handle to its maximum strength free standing, I will be drilling or bunching a hole 22mm wide in the middle of the cross angle iron on the surface of 30mm wide, (26mm in length x 30mm wide x 30mm x height x 5mm thick), the tubular round pipe that is the handle will be inserted into the 22mm hole and the pipe will be brought out flush to the other side in the enterer of the cross angle iron, also the tubular pipe will be lengthened a further 5mm in length to allow for the loss of piping that is inserted into the cross angle iron. The round tubular piping will be then welded by a mig welder with 0.8mm or 1.0mm copper wire on the exterior side. This will make the RatcheTensioner lighter and more easer to manage with still the same relative strength that it has been.
Also at some stage I will need to attach a spring loaded clip mechanism 50mm in length x lmm in thickness x 20mm in height at the back plate that is attached to angle iron, 20mmχl0mm wide loop which holds the ratchet handle, this spring loading clip will mig welded to the inside upright of the cross angle iron that will act as a stabiliser for the ratchet handle that fits into the cross angle iron, the clip mechanism will fit on and three quarter way around the ratchet handle grip. This will strengthen the stability of the RatcheTensioner by keeping the ratchet handle more firmly in its position in the inside of the casing of the RatcheTensioners angle irons when it is being used to tighten the ratchet.
Claims
1. A RatcheTensioner fights on and around any ratchet handle that varies in the same size of what can fit into the mouth of the RatcheTensioner. The RatcheTensioner will assist the ratchet in tensioning the strap by pulling the handle of the RatcheTensioner in the direction of movement of the ratchet which tightens the strap. The RatcheTensioner will give more power and less strain on the person that is tensioning the ratchet strap because of the fulcrum and leverage that the RatcheTensioner gives on the ratchet handle.
2. A RatcheTensioner as claimed in claim 1, wherein the side angle irons slide over and on top of the sides of the ratchet handle, the cross angle iron holds the top end of the ratchet horizontally, holding the ratchet handle firmly in place. The round tubular pipe is the lever that is welded to the cross angle iron, the two flat plates are welded on either side of the round tubular pipe at a 45 degree angle from the corner of each side of the cross angle iron giving the tubular pipe support when under tension.
3. A RatcheTensioner according to any claims 1 and 2 wherein the RatcheTensioner material are made from mild steel.
4. A RatcheTensioner according to any of the claims 1-3 wherein at the end of the tubular pipe there is a plastic handle grip inserted onto the tubular pipe that is the handle also the logo sticker is placed on the middle of the handle made of black vinyl whereon.
5. A RatcheTensioner substantially as herein before described with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
