- a method of forming a can body with a step in its sidewall comprising, in the following order, the steps of: beading the sidewall, forming the step in the sidewall, forming a curl in an edge of the can body's sidewall by spin curling, and applying a fluid sealing compound on the step to form a seat for a closure, the sealing compound being of a depth sufficient to permit the closure to be partially embedded in the seat.
- a closure is preferably placed on the sealing compound whilst the compound is still fluid. This assists in ensuring that the sealing compound can readily adapt to any geometric imperfections on either the step or the closure, which thereby helps to provide a good hermetic seal when the sealing compound has hardened and set.

Abstract
L’invention concerne un corps de boîte doté d’un rebord ou d’un gradin (17) sur lequel est déposé une matière souple telle qu’un produit de garnissage (12) à l’état fluide. Un couvercle (30) est placé sur le rebord (17) alors que le produit (12) est toujours à l’état fluide. Le couvercle (30) forme ainsi une empreinte dans le produit (12) qui durcit ensuite pour fixer le couvercle (30) en place. Le corps de boîtier de l’invention convient tout particulièrement au conditionnement de produits alimentaires qui sont ensuite soumis à un traitement dans un autoclave à pression.
