Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method and a device for attaching an identifier to a core used as the core of a material web roll, such as a paper roll, and for writing and reading the identifier data.
- a material web roll such as a paper roll
- This invention is related to an earlier invention, patent application FI 20040808.
- the mill information system has to be continuously informed about every core and paper roll in the production process. If a roll can not be identified, its advance in the normal production process has to be interrupted.
- the identifier primarily indicates which roll or core is being dealt with. Other information regarding the roll, such as dimen ⁇ sions and weight, may also be included in the identifier, or such information may be found in the mill information system on the basis of the identifier. Identification by means of order number reveals the current status of the order.
- the core is marked with an ink jet on the outer surface of the mantle, or the core identification data is transferred to the slitter by completely manual methods.
- the ink jet marking can be read during the transfer from the core production station to the winder.
- the paper web covers the identifier and the paper roll has to be marked again.
- a bar code sticker may be attached to the end of the roll and/or a marking can be created by means of an ink jet printer.
- a label printed on a laser printer is attached to the roll.
- Radio frequency identification technology largely solves the above-described problems by reducing the number of identifiers. Radio frequency identifiers, which are called RFID identifiers, are still expensive, but they show a falling price development.
- An RFID identifier so-called tag, is preferably attached to the core, near the end of the roll. Both writing and reading of the identifier are performed by means of a transmitter- receiver, which is called a transceiver.
- the antenna of the transceiver is so placed that the coverage area extends to the identifier. Writing refers to transferring information into the identifier, and reading refers to transferring information from the identifier.
- the object of the present invention is to reduce the problems associated with prior-art solu ⁇ tions, especially by reducing the number of identifiers.
- An identifier attached to the core already in connection with the core production station is readable even after the slitter.
- the RFID identifier can be read and/or written without a light ray or direct contact.
- the RFID port is able to automatically identify the content of the entire load being transferred, and the rolls need not be read one by one.
- FIG. 1 presents a system according to the invention placed in connection with a roll core production area.
- Fig. 2 presents cross-sectional view of a core according to an embodiment of the invention.
- Fig. 3 presents the core in Fig. 2 in end view.
- Fig. 4 presents an end view of a core provided with a plug.
- an identification code setting apparatus 3 is placed in connection with a roll core preparation area 5 as described in patent application FI 20040808.
- the roll core preparation area covers a system where parent cores are cut into lengths corresponding to the paper roll widths, and if necessary the core ends are machined and/or provided with plugs and/or equivalent.
- the identification code setting apparatus 3 comprises elements by means of which an iden ⁇ tifier, an RFID identifier 2 or a bar code sticker 9, is attached to the core 1.
- the identifica ⁇ tion code setting apparatus 3 is preferably placed at one edge of the core preparation line, at the last roll position on it.
- the identification code setting apparatus in a preferred em ⁇ bodiment, comprises elements by means of which the identifiers 2 are removed from the web 10 as well as elements which, using mangling, pressing and/or gluing, attach the iden ⁇ tifier 2 to the core 1.
- the identifier is attached to the core in the area of its one end, on the inner or outer surface, whereupon it is preferably check read.
- both the writing of the identification data into the identifier and the reading of the data contained in the identifier are performed by means of a transceiver 4.
- the core 1 can be transported to the winder.
- core ID is in the identification code set ⁇ ting station while the previously treated rolls IA, IB and 1C are on a conveyor 6, which moves the prepared cores away from the roll core preparation area 5, whereupon they are moved further to the winder.
- the prepared cores can also be supplied to the winder on carriages or equivalent.
- Figures 2, 3 and 4 present embodiments related to the placement of identifiers.
- the identi ⁇ bomb based either on bar code or RFID, is attached to a fastener, e.g. a disc of a preferably cup-like shape or a square with bent corners or equivalent.
- the fastener may be made of paper, cardboard, plastic or equivalent, hi the case of cores with a plug placed at the end, the identifier is attached to the pmg.
- the disc 8 is preferably placed at a depth just outside the reach of the winder mandrel. When the depth is only a few centimeters, the identifier is still well readable.
- a bar code identifier can be read automatically even after the slitter, up to the packaging stage.
- An RFID identifier can be read and/or written even after the packaging and even in the cus ⁇ tomer's process.
- the place of the identification code setting operation may vary from that described. However, the essential point is that the code should be set before the core is removed from the roll core preparation area, which may cover a large area in ⁇ cluding the conveyor 6.
