Abstract

The application comprises the main trunk (1), the stems (2), and the hooks (3). The stems (2) start from the main trunk; the hooks (3) project on either side of the stems and at a distance from one another directly proportional to their length. The main trunk is attached to a stable part of the body, while the stems extend along the subcutaneous tissue below the skin. The stems are first stretched and then allowed to retrograde, so as the hooks can pull the subcutaneous tissue and the skin along with them. The advantage of this device is that it solves the problem of loose skin in a simple and quick surgical method. The results are concrete and lasting. The flexibility of the material allows the device to follow the movements of the body and it does not cause any discomfort.

Description

Implantable soft tissue and skin lifting system
The invention pertains to a device which lifts loose skin when implanted in the subcutaneous tissue.
With the exception of surgical excision and suture, there is no current congruent device or technique for the lifting of loose skin.
The comparative advantage of the innovation is that it allows the achievement of the afore-mentioned objective by means of a simple surgical technique, without the excision of skin or the occurrence of extended scarring; additionally, it offers long-lasting results.
This innovative system comprises a main part, the main trunk (1), and the stems (2) which start from the main trunk. The stems have hooks (3) on either side, projecting at an angle and at regular distances apart (<2 cm). The cross- section of the hooks at the joint with the stems is larger than that at the edges of the hooks. The main trunk is made stable with stitches or screws attached to a steady place in the area (e.g. buttocks: lumbar fascia, thighs: hip spine, cheeks: zygomatic arch, neck: mastoid tubercle, etc).
The stems are implanted parallel to the loose skin, penetrating the subcutaneous tissue and at considerable depth. They are placed parallel to each other in such a way, so that the hooks (3) can form a mesh.
The device is made of medical silicone rubber (medical grade, class VI, silicone rubber). The material - which is already used for implants in the human body (e.g. breast implants) - is flexible, elongatable and with a substantial tensile strength. Due to the flexibility of the material, the stems (2) can firstly be elongated and then can be allowed to retrograde; consequently, the hooks pull the tissue and the skin along with them. The force the device exerts is divided equally along the total length of the stems. The latter can stretch and follow body movement. The length of the stems (2) and the hooks (3), as well as the shape and size of their cross-section can be adjusted in accordance with the part of the body the device will be used for. Similarly, the shape and size of the main trunk can be altered from cuboid to cylindrical.

Claims

What is claimed is: . The implantable soft tissue and skin lifting system comprises the main trunk (1), the stems (2) and the hooks (3). The stems end in a small ring (4), which facilitates their handling with the use of a pertinent surgical tool. 2. The shape and size of the main trunk (1) varies in accordance with the part of the body it is intended for (e.g. cuboid, cylindrical, etc). 3. The length and the cross-section as well as the shape and size of the stems (2) can be adjusted in accordance with use, as mentioned above (claim 2). 4. The direction of the angle of the hooks (3) is opposite to the direction of loose skin. The hooks project from the stems at a distance which is directly proportional to their length. 5. The material used is medical silicone rubber (medical grade, class VI, silicone rubber). However, in the future different implantable material may be used, with natural properties more apt to their purpose (i.e. tensile strength, elongation, flexibility). 6. The whole surface of the device is rough, so as the creation of a capsule (scar tissue formed around the device) to be avoided. 7. Each stem can be constructed individually (without the main trunk) in order to be used in special cases for enhancing the surgical method or in cases where different soft tissues need to be lifted (breast).
