Definitions
- This invention relates to a device for admixing a liquid-state medium to another liquid- state medium.
- the device comprises a plate, which is provided with one or several openings and means for distributing the admixed liquid.
- the plate is intended to be connected to a pipe.
- the liquid-state medium, which moves in the pipe, shall pass through the pipe at the same time as liquid-state medium is supplied via the plate.
- one of the problems is to ensure a good admixture and thereby to avoid that the admixed medium reaches only a portion of the medium, to which it is intended to be admixed.
- Such a non-uniform admixture can cause problems with local concentration of the admixed medium, and that certain portions of the flow do not get into contact with the admixed medium. This applies especially when small amounts are admixed to a greater flow.
- At the manufacture of pulp there is occasionally the demand of admixing small amounts of chemicals in liquid state to a greater liquid flow.
- One example is at the addition of acids or bases, in order to adjust pH, for example at the addition of sulphuric acid to dilution liquid.
- One problem at the addition of small amounts of chemicals in relation to the liquid flow, to which the chemical is to be added, is as mentioned before, that it is difficult to ensure in an effective way a good admixture of the small amount to the great flow.
- the equipment used heretofore for such purposes often is space-requiring and expensive.
- the present invention has the object to solve the problem of space-requirement and high expenses without deteriorating the mixing effectiveness.
- the mixing device consists of a plate, which is mounted between two pipe flanges and placed in a pipe.
- the plate has an extension in the thickness direction and is provided with one or several openings.
- the openings in the plate give rise to a sudden decrease of area of the pipe, which causes turbulent flow in the liquid flowing in the pipe.
- the openings are two openings oval in vertical direction.
- the invention can also be formed with one or several oval openings, in order to bring about the sudden area reduction. At the embodiment with oval openings these are advantageously arranged so that the diameter of the entire pipe, to which the plate is connected, is used.
- the openings can have different geometric shape and dimensions.
- the plate for example, can be provided with a U- shaped opening.
- the total open area is dimensioned depending on the size of the flow to pass through the mixing device. A balance is there to be made between having a sufficiently high pressure drop for ensuring a good mixing effectiveness and simultaneously having a reasonable pump capacity.
- the plate also is provided with at least one distribution channel provided with outlets for supplying the liquid-state medium, which shall be mixed with the liquid flowing in the pipe.
- a good mixing effectiveness is ensured.
- Chemicals to be admixed can be added on the upstream side of the plate, at the centre of the mixing plate or on the downstream side of the mixing plate. The adding position in this case is to be understood so that the outlets from the distribution channel open either on the downstream side or upstream side of the plate, alternatively in the openings arranged to bring about the sudden area reduction.
- the chemicals preferably are added on the downstream side of the plate where the pressure is lower. The greatest portion of the turbulent zone is found on the downstream side of the plate, which allows the chemicals to be added where the pressure is the lowest with good mixing effectiveness.
- the mixing device is designed so that the pressure drop over the plate is lower than 1 bar.
- the distribution channel is formed as a hole with circular cross-section which extends down into the centre of the plate.
- the outlets can be found to be circular holes.
- the diameter of the holes is adapted to the flow size of the desired chemical to be added.
- the outlets can also be given a shape other than with circular cross-section.
- outlets of the distribution channel preferably are arranged with symmetry about the centre of the plate.
- the invention shall not be restricted to that the outlets are placed symmetrically on the plate, but they can also be placed asymmetrically.
- FIG. 1 shows an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
- Fig. 2 is an alternative embodiment with the plate shown by cross-section.
- Fig. 3 shows an alternative embodiment by way of a section according to A-A in Fig. 1.
- a plate (1) which is intended to be placed between two flanges in a pipe, in which a liquid-state medium flows.
- the plate is provided with one or several openings (2).
- the plate has two openings, but can alternatively be provided with only one opening or several openings.
- the openings are oval in the vertical direction of the plate. Alternatively, the openings can have a different geometrical shape.
- the plate further is provided with a distribution channel (3) provided with outlets (4).
- the distribution channel is supplied with the liquid-state medium to be admixed to the greater liquid- state flow.
- the distribution channel has two outlets, but at alternative embodiments the channel can have only one outlet or several outlets for adding the liquid-state medium to be admixed.
- Fig. 2 is a cross-section of an embodiment where the outlets (4) of the distribution channel (3) are placed at the centre of the plate.
- Fig. 3 is a cross-section according to A-A of embodiments where the outlets (4) are placed on the downstream side or upstream side of the plate, depending on to which direction the plate is placed in the pipe.
