Abstract

A display of elongate objects (15), e.g., curtain rods and roller blinds, is provided by placing the objects in upwardly open cartons (10), which are lower than the objects so that the upper parts of the objects are visible, and putting carton casings (16) over the cartons and placing the cartons on a standard pallet (17) for transportation to the shop, the dimensions of the cartons being adapted so that a number of cartons fit on the pallet. Upon the delivery to shop, the casings are lifted off in order to expose the objets. Thus , a combined display and package system is provided.

Description

A combined display and package system and a method to provide such
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a method to provide a display of elongate objects. The invention also relates to a combined display and package system for elongate objects.
Object of the Invention and Brief Description of the Invention
It is an object of the invention to facilitate and cheapen the handling of deliveries that have arrived to a shop. This is attained by providing a display of elongate objects by placing the objects in upwardly open cartons, which are lower than the objects so that the upper parts of the objects are visible, and putting carton casings over the cartons and placing the cartons on a standard pallet for transportation, the dimensions of the cartons being adapted so that a number of cartons fit on the pallet and upon the delivery the casings being lifted off in order to expose the objects. A combined display and package system for elongate objects being obtained, comprising a number of high upwardly open cartons that are adapted to together fit on a standard pallet and are lower than the objects and carton casings over the cartons in order to cover the upper parts of the objects as well as the cartons for protecting both the objects and the cartons, the upper parts of the objects being exposed when the casings are lifted off.
Brief Description of the Drawings
• Figure 1 shows a carton having elongate objects and a carton casing
• Figure 2 shows a display with cartons according to figure 1
• Figure 3 shows a clip for holding together the cartons shown in figure 2
• Figure 4 shows a carton for accessories to the elongate objects
Description of Preferred Embodiment
Figure 1 shows a carton 10, the side surfaces 11 of which have an oblique upper edge 12 so that the front side 13 of the carton becomes lower than the back side 14 thereof. Thereby, the carton exposes the upper ends of a number of elongate objects 15 placed in the carton. The objects may be elongate home furnishing details, for instance curtain rods or poles and roller blinds and they are suitably individually packaged. A casing 16 of carton is so long that it may be pushed down over the carton 10 and cover the entire carton 10.
Figure 2 shows a freestanding display with six cartons 10 of the type that is shown in figure 1. The cartons are placed on a transportation pallet 17 and they are equally high and placed with the back sides against each other. The cartons are adapted for a whole pallet so that there will be a narrow projecting edge on the pallet, which protrudes outside the cartons. The edges of the transportation pallet are covered with an edge protection 18, which may consist of one or more sheets of, e.g., paper, carton or fabric on which the cartons rest and which has projecting edges, which are lowered in order to cover the pallet edge. On the pallet, there is a rack 19 having logo, advertising and information.
Where four cartons 11 meet, clips 20 are mounted, as is shown in figure 3, in order to hold together the four cartons firmly.
For transportation to shop, the six cartons 10 having casings 16 are put together on the transportation pallet and the projecting pallet protection 18 is folded up against the cartons so that they are protected by the transportation package not shown, which may consist of plastic shrink film. When the pallet arrives to the shop, the transportation package is removed and the pallet protection 18 is folded down so that it conceals the pallet edge. The casings 16 are taken away and the clips 20 are mounted. The rack 19 is then mounted on the pallet edges. In each carton, a number of leaflets adapted to the contents of the carton are suitably enclosed and a leaflet display 21 that may be fastened on the front side of the carton. Suitably, it may be hung over the front edge of the carton. Thus, in an easy and not very laborious way, the transportation package has been altered to a completed independent display.
A whole pallet is 800 mm x 1200 mm and if the cartons are adapted so that there is room for 6 cartons, it is possible to place two cartons abreast on a half-pallet, which is 600 mm x 800 mm. By means of half-pallets, a single-sided display is built up against a wall instead of a freestanding double-sided display or presentation. The clips are then put over meeting upper edges between two cartons.
During the transportation, the carton casings 15 that cover the entire cartons 11 have protected the cartons 11 , which may be provided with logo and text. The carton casings 16 have generally different heights but they may all have a tear-off cord at the same height from the top. Said tear-off cord is fastened on the inside of the casing and protrudes through the casing with one end, and by pulling the end, the cartons may be cut off so that they get the same height. It is then possible to put together the cartons to a table and cover them with a contour-sewn cover so that a table is obtained on which exposure cartons having accessories to the long objects can be placed. If the long objects are curtain rods, curtain rod accessories and curtain accessories are accordingly exposed on the tables. Figure 4 shows such a carton 22, which has a lowerable flap 23.
When some one of the cartons 11 have become empty, the clip or the clips 20 that holds the carton are loosened and the carton is exchanged. In the same way, the cartons 22 are exchanged. Thus, it is not necessary to handle the individual objects in the cartons. According to the invention, a highly efficient handling system of cartons having different contents is obtained. The system may advantageously be used for sales in shops having low staff density and having staff that is unskilled. It is then possible to sell, for instance, curtain rods and their accessories in do-it-yourself stores and the supplier may be responsible for the display and deliver goods without interference of the staff of the store. The supplier may, for instance, have one person that attends to the exposure at relatively long intervals, for instance, once per week.
