Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for positioning slaughtered chickens or other poultry, comprising: a number of displaceable suspension hooks which are positioned behind one another, are connected to one another and each have two suspension brackets for holding parts of the legs of a chicken, means for displacing the suspension hooks, positioning means for positioning chickens which are suspended from the suspension brackets, which positioning means each comprise at least the following components: two pressure brackets, between which a chicken which is suspended from a suspension hook can be introduced, which pressure brackets are connected to an actuating piece which can pivot about a horizontal axis and is able to interact with guide means in such a manner that when the suspension hooks are displaced the pressure brackets can pivot between a low position and a high position, and at least one resilient back plate against which a chicken can be pressed by the pressure brackets in the high position of the latter.
- a device of this nature is known from US-A-4,564,977 and can be used, inter alia, to align the vent of slaughtered chickens with a vent drill. This allows the cutting edge of the vent drill to engage on the meat surrounding the vent. By, for example, generating a vacuum in the drill, the skin can be pulled into the drill in order to facilitate cutting off the meat around the vent by means of the rotating drill.
- the resilient arrangement of the back plate forms the compensation for different thicknesses of the backs of the chickens, i.e. it is possible to position the drill centrally with respect to the vent both for chickens with a relatively thick back and for those with a relatively less thick back.
- the pressure brackets of each pair are at a fixed distance from one another.
- the object of the invention is to avoid this drawback, and to this end the 2 device referred to in the preamble is characterized by means which, when the pressure brackets are displaced from the low position to the high position, in addition bring about a displacement of the pressure brackets from a spread-wide position to a less spread-wide position.
- US-A-5,569,072 has disclosed a device for positioning slaughtered chickens or other poultry, comprising a number of displaceable suspension hooks which are positioned behind one another, are connected to one another and each have two suspension brackets for holding parts of the legs of a chicken, means for displacing the suspension hooks and positioning means for positioning chickens which are suspended from the suspension brackets, which positioning means each comprise two vertically displaceable hip brackets which, during a displacement in the upwards direction, move from a relatively spread-wide position to a relatively less spread-wide position.
- the hip brackets do not pivot and, furthermore, there is no resilient back plate.
- the combination of hip brackets which carry out a pivoting movement instead of a purely vertical movement and a resilient back plate has a beneficial effect on the accurate positioning of the chicken.
- the said actuating piece comprises a cylindrical part which fits rotatably into a cylindrical opening in a fixed mounting part associated with a suspension hook, which actuating piece is provided on two end sides with a cross-shaped recess, in which a bracket part and a transverse part of a pressure bracket are accommodated, and on the actuating piece, in the vicinity of the edge with the said cross-shaped recess, there are cam means with which the said bracket part of the pressure bracket can interact in order to bring about the said displacement from a spread-wide position to a less spread-wide position.
- each pressure bracket In order to prevent damage to wide chickens when the pressure brackets assume the less spread-wide position, it is preferable for each pressure bracket to comprise two parts which are connected to one another via resilient means.
- Figure 1 shows a side view of a mechanism according to the invention
- Figure 2 shows a perspective view of part of the mechanism in accordance with Figure 1 , 3
- Figure 3 shows a cross section through the mechanism for spreading the pressure brackets of the mechanism in accordance with Figure 1, in a low position of the said brackets,
- Figure 4 shows a cross section through the mechanism for spreading the pressure brackets of the mechanism in accordance with Figure 1 , in a high position of the said brackets,
- FIG. 5 shows an exploded view of part of the mechanism.
- the device illustrated comprises a number of suspension hooks which are positioned one behind the other and each have two brackets 1 in which the legs of a slaughtered chicken are accommodated.
- these hooks are suspended from trolleys which are provided with wheels which travel along a rail.
- the trolleys are connected to one another by a chain.
- the chain can be driven by a motor (cf. also US-A-4,564,977).
- a loop-shaped height stop bracket 6 is arranged above each pair of pressure brackets 3, which height stop bracket ensures that when pressure is exerted by the pressure brackets 3 the chicken does not adopt an excessively high position.
- features are added to make the brackets 3 of each pair assume a spread-wide position in the low position (cf. the distance b between the free ends of the brackets 3 in Figure 2), while during the upwards pivoting movement the brackets of each pair assume a 4 position in which they are less spread-wide (cf. distance a between the free ends of the brackets 3 in Figure 2).
- the pressure brackets comprise two parts which are connected to one another by a leaf spring 7 (or other resilient means).
- the short part of the pressure brackets is denoted by 3 a and the long part by 3b.
- the said features connect the pressure brackets 3 to the mounting piece 8 to which, inter alia, the springs 5 are attached.
- This actuating piece is provided on both end walls with a cross-shaped recess with a passage section 13 for accommodating the short part 3a of a pressure bracket 3, and with a passage section 12 for accommodating a rod 11 which is arranged perpendicular to the bracket 3.
- cover caps 14 which are attached to the actuating piece 10 by bolts 15.
- the two cover caps are connected to one another by a connecting piece 16 on the underside, on which a guide roll 17 is arranged.
- This roll is able to interact with a cam disc 18 on the inside of the roll 17 and a guide rail 19 on the outside of the roll 17.
- the aim of this interaction is to cause the actuating piece to rotate in such a manner inside the cylindrical cutout 9 that the pressure brackets can move between a low position (dot- dashed lines in Figure 2) and a high position (continuous lines in Figure 2).
- the brackets 3 to cause the brackets 3 to adopt a spread-wide position in the low position (distance between the ends is b) and to adopt a less spread position in the high position (distance between the ends is a, where b is greater than a), the three following features are provided: a rising cam 20 on the mounting piece 8 in the vicinity of the edge of the cylindrical cutout 9, a recess 21 in the material of the mounting piece 8 in the vicinity of the edge of the cylindrical cutout 9, diametrically opposite the cam 20, and a recessed section 22 in the passage section 13 of the actuating piece 10.
