Abstract

The invention can be used in the field of shipbuilding as a deepwater descent device. The proposed device comprises a float (1) to which is attached a gondola (4) with porthole (5) in such a way as to be capable of rotating relative to the float. A frame unit (8) inside the gondola (4) can rotate relative to the gondola (4). The gondola (4) is statically balanced about its rotational axis relative to the float (1), while the frame unit (8) with payload has a centre of gravity that is shifted relative to the axis of rotation of the frame unit (8) relative to the gondola (4). To alter the orientation of the porthole (5), the frame unit (8) is rotated inside the gondola (4) by simultaneously applying opposite forces to the frame unit (8) and the inner surface of the gondola (4) - for example, the frame unit is rotated manually with the crewmember's feet braced against the inner gondola surface - thereby altering the relative angular orientation of frame unit (8) and gondola (4). Since the gondola (4) is statically balanced about the axis of the trunnions (7) and occupies a neutral position determined solely by external forces, while the frame unit (8) with payload is not so balanced, a new equilibrium position is attained and the centre of gravity of the frame unit (8) will be low down (depending on the position occupied by the crew). The porthole (5) will thereby be re-oriented in a different direction. In the proposed deepwater descent device the field of view from the gondola is increased by the capability of forcibly rotating the gondola about the frame with payload which has a displaced centre of gravity and therefore maintains its own orientation relative to the horizontal axis.
