Abstract
An inflatable cushion for supporting the back of a user's head is U-shaped seen in plane view and this U-shape consists of a bottom part and two mutually converging leg parts. The bottom part has a surface part which is intended to abut on the nape of the user's neck and this surface part of the cushion is double convex formed when the cushion is in its inflated condition for use.
Description
Inflatable cushion for supporting the back of the head.
The present invention relates to an inflatable cushion for supporting the back of the head of a user, the cushion having an U-shape in plane view and the U-shape consisting of a bottom part of the U-shape and two mutually converging leg parts of the U-shape.
From the prior art is known such a cushion which unfortunately suffers from the disadvantage that it becomes leaky after having been used only a few times. The leakage occurs in the middle zone of the U-shape bottom part.
However, it has unexpectedly become apparent that the life time of a cushion of the mentioned kind may be increased substantially if - according to the present invention - the bottom p^rt of the U-shape has a double convex surface configuration in the surface part which is intended to support or abut on the nape of the user's neck when the cushion is in its inflated condition. The lifetime for a cushion of the mentioned type at a given material thickness of the bottom part of the U-shape was increased more than 50% measured by the number of uses, i.e. the number of putting on and taking off the cushion from the user's neck before leakage occurred.
This increase in lifetime is obtained according to an embodiment of the cushion if only the radius of curvature in the cross section of the bottom part of the U-shape, i.e. the radius of curvature in a plane normal to the surface part which is intended to abut on the user's nape of the neck, is of a value being from 2 to 20% of the radius of curvature of surface part in the bottom part in a plan perpendicularly to said cross sec¬ tion and to said surface part in the inflated condition of the cushion. Satisfactory results have been obtained
by ratios of 6-10% between the two mentioned radii of cur¬ vature.
Claims
1. An inflatable cushion for supporting the back of a user's head, the cushion having an U-shape in plane view and the U-shape consisting of a bottom part of the U-shape and two leg parts, the leg parts extending from " the ends of the bottom part in converging manner, wherein the bottom part of the U-shape has a double con¬ vex surface form in the surface part which is intended to support or abut on the nape of the user's neck when the cushion is in its inflated condition..
2. An inflatable cushion according to claim 1, wherein the cushion in its inflated condition has a radius of curvature in a cross section of said bottom part being from 2.0 to 20%, preferably 8% of the radius of curva¬ ture in a plane section perpendicular to said cross "section and to said surface part, said surface part' of the bottom part being situated in the middle zone of the bottom part at the interior side of the U-shape.
