Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 16, 1911.
Application filed February 26, 1910. Serial No. 546,160.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it*known that I, JOSEPH HEELEY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residlng in Wigan, in the county of Lancaster, in the Kingdom of England, have invented a certain new and useful Slicer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object a knife or cutting device to cut loaves, bacon, tobacco, vegetables and other substances into slices.
The invention will be understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which;

In carrying the invention into elfect, I provide a knife A pivoted at one end to a link B, and at the other end provided with a handle 0. The link at its upper end is hung from a frame D, the base of which is secured to a plate E in any suitable manner, as by soldering or by clamps, as shown in Fig. 2, and this plate E it of course will be understood, is secured to or rests upon a table or board. This frame or guide D is bent upward at each end of this plate E to the required height. 9 The frame is slotted, or made with a pair of members side by side so as to leave a slot F between, in which the knife A can play up and down and act as a guide. On the base plate E is mounted a fence G, and secured to the plate is a lug H in which is screwed a threaded pin. I coupled at the end to the fence G, so that by turning the pin I the fence G is moved nearer to or farther away from, the blade A, to determine the thickness of the slices to be out, and the fence is slotted at J so as to clear the lug H. The fence G can be flanged so as to lie as close as desired to the knife A. The base plate is slotted at K opposite the slot F in the frame D, so as to let the knife cut through the loaf or "other article, and prevent its cutting edge coming into contact with the metal plate E, which might blunt it, also a small finger can be provided at the handle end of the knife, which will form a stop against'the table. The coupling of the knife end to the link, is preferably effected by a screwL which can be removed when it is required to uncouple the knife A for sharpening, and in of the required thickness, a loaf M is placed against the fence, and the knife by a downward movement of the handle C, cuts it into slices. The link B by which the knife is hung at one end, enables the knife A to be 7 held horizontal while cutting, or at various angles of inclination, or it enables the knife to have a reciprocating movement imparted to it. The full lines show the blade A in a raised position, the dotted lines show it at the bottom of its downward stroke. If desired, two or more knives can be provided in one handle set parallel to each other, in which case the machine will out more than one slice at a time.
