To all whom "it may concern:

Be it known that I, BERNARD MoCAUcHnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broiling-Frames, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to frames adapted for use in toasting or broiling bread, meats, and other articles of food, and is particularly adapted for use in conjunction with a housing such as that shown in my U. S. Patent No. 915,105 issued Mar. 16, 1909, or in the housing disclosed in my pending patent application Ser. No. 186,740 filed Mar. 30, 1909, of which this application is a division.

The essential objects of my invention are to provide a frame capable of maintaining a flexible substance such as meat from sliding about or collapsing within the marginal limits of the frame, particularly when the frame is required to be turned, or when it is desired to mount the same edgewise or vertically in a broiler housing; further to avoid the necessity of squeezing the substance so that the valleys therein as in a steak are destroyed and the juices forced out and destroyed, and to make the use of a clamping ring upon the handles unnecessary.

To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such novel construction and combination of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of my novel frame, Fig. 2, a section of the same on line :12 00 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3, an end view of the frame, Fig. 4, a section on line 1: y of Fig. 1, Fig. 5, a perspective View of a portion of the retaining attachment, and Fig. 6, a transverse section of the same.

Like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views.

My novel frame comprises rectangular upper and lower leaves A and B respectively. The former comprises a marginal vertical band, a, provided with longitudinally disposed fiat cross bars a and a flat handle-C. The companion leaf B has corresponding parts I), b, and 1) respectively. end margins of the bands a and b are provided respectively with cavities e and 6 opening into each other. Upon each side of the cavities to the bands are fixed hinges Gr.

Removably mounted upon one of the bars a or b is a supporting member which in detail consists of a sleeve H which is U- shaped in cross section, in one of whose sides is fixed a longitudinally disposed series of prongs h.

The cavities e 6 form an opening in which may be received the pivot pin or other pivotal member of a broiler when it is desired to use the broiling frame hereinbefore described in connection with a broiler. It will be understood that when the frame is not employed in connection with a broiler this opening may be dispensed with.

The sleeve H is manually engaged with whichever bar of a leaf the operator finds most advantageous for the particular dimensions or shape of the article to be subjected to heat, and when the leaves are brought together upon the article the prongs h engage and penetrate it sufficiently to insure the article against any change of location and without any substantial compression or squeezing by the leaves.

What I claim is,-

1. In a broiler frame, the combination with the hinged leaves, of a sleeve detachably mounted upon one of said leaves and provided with prongs for holding the article to be cooked.

2. In a broiler frame, the combination of two leaves, each leaf being provided with a cavity the cavities upon opposite leaves being disposed opposite each other. to form an opening, pivotal connections upon the leaves adjacent the cavities, a sleeve removably mounted upon one leaf, and prongs upon the sleeve.

8. In a broiler frame, the combination of two leaves, each leaf being provided with crossbars, means for connecting the ends of the leaves, a sleeve detachably mounted upon one of the bars and prongs upon the sleeve.
