IMPROVED BEIDSTIILADV AIN D LOUNGE.

The Schedule referred to in these LettersPatent and making partrof the same.

A scription thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature' of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bedstead and lounge, as will be hereinafter fully set forth. l

In order to enable others skilled in the art 'to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in'which- Figure 1 is an end view, showing my invent-ion in the position for a lounge;

Figure 2 is an end ,viewrshowing its position as a bed; and

Figure 3 is a side view of the doublel joint in the mattress-frame.

A represents the frame of my bedstead and lounge,

` which frame may he made in any manner desired, so

as to have end pieces, and no high sides. v

B represents the mattress-frame, which, at each end, in the centre, is provided with a double joint, C, as seen in fig. 3.

The mattress-frame B is hinged to the bedstead A by means of a. metal plate, D, at each end, said plates being, at one end, pivoted to the mattressfframe, and

at the other to the bedstead-frame.

The plates D D, with the bedstead and mattressframes, are so arranged, that when the mattress-frame is turned back, as shown in fig. l, its front side will be about even with the/front side of the bedstead-fiame, and the rear half of the mattress-frame can be turned up, so as to forni the back of the lounge, the double joint C allowing the mattress to be bent iu proper shape for the same.

\Vhen the mattress-frame is turned forward, asv

shown in iig. 2, to form a hed, the said frame lextends equally on both front and rear sides of the bedsteadframe, so as to be evenlyand completely supported by the bedstead-frame.

Having thus fully described my invent-ion, What l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,. is-

The combination of the bedstead-frame A, mattressframe B, double joints C, and platesD, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
