TES
SAFETY-ENVELOP.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM Minoan, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety- Envelops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in safety envelops, and more particularly to specially constructed ends or flaps for permitting a single stamp or sealing means to join the front and back and both ends together at one place.
The object in view is the construction of an envelop of the usual shape and in such a manner as to be sealed in the usual manner but at the same time permit all of the parts of the envelop to be sealed at the usual place of affixing the stamp.
A further object of the invention is the arrangement in an envelop of flaps with the ends formed with extensions for pasting the face of the envelop along a single edge thereof and preferably along the upper edge so that the postage stamp may be afiixed at the usual upper right hand corner and at the same time secure together the front and back of the envelop and the extensions of the end members.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank from which the envelop is formed. Fig. 2 is afront View of the envelop open and ready for receiving its contents. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the envelop closed and sealed. Fig. 4: is a front view of the envelop closed and sealed with the stamp atlixed.
In forming an envelop embodying the invention the same may be constructed square or rectangular, the illustration showing a rectangular envelop having a body portion 1, end flaps 2 and 3, and a side flap 1. The end flaps 2 and 3 extend for the full width Specification of Letters Patent.

of the envelop and the side flap 4t the full length. End flap 3 is formed substantially triangular in shape, but has an extension 5 extending therefrom at an angle in a diagonal direction from the lower corner of the envelop to the upper corner. Member or extension 5 falls short of extending to the end of the envelop, and has formed thereon an extension 6 designed to overlap the gummed extension 7 of flap 1 and be secured thereto as the entire end flap 3 is gummed on one side for pasting to the back of flap 1. End flap 2 is triangular in shape and glnnmcd on one side for pasting to the back of flap t. End flap 2 is formed with an extension 8 which extends over and is pasted upon extension 7 of flap 4 adjacent the extension 6, so that postage stamp 9 may be applied to the extension, of both of the end flaps, the extension of the side flap 5, and the body 1 at the same time for uniting all parts of the envelop together at a single point. This will cause the mutilation of the stamp or envelop in opening the envelop.
In forming the envelop from the blank shown in Fig. 1, flap a is bent up against body 1, and then end flaps 2 and 3 are bent over and pasted against flap 1 and extensions 6 and 8 pasted against extension 7. The envelop is then in condition for receiving its contents. After the contents have been placed in the envelop extension 7, together with extensions 6 and 8, is bent over and pasted against the face of body 1, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. A stamp is then applied so that part of the same will engage the face of body 1, and part will engage the ends of extensions 6 and 8 and the edge of extension 7 This effectually joins or secures together all of the parts of the envelop, so that no part can be opened without mutilating the envelop or the stamp.
hat I claim is:
An envelop having a rectangular body portion, a side flap formed with an extension designed to lap over said body portion, a flap at each end designed to lap over and be pasted to said side flap, one of said end flaps being formed with an extension glued to the extension of said side flap, the other flap being formed with a retaining member extending from one corner diagonally to the parts of the envelop Will be secured together at one point. 10
In testimony whereof I my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ADAM MIEDEN.
opposite corner on the back of said side flap and glued thereto, said member being formed with an extension pasted to the extension on said side member and extending adjacent the extension on the opposite end member, whereby when a stamp is aflixed I Witnes to the face of said body portion and to the T. S. MAHAN, extensions on said end members all of the I JEssIn M. TIMERHOFF.
