STAIN OR GREASE REMOVING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 20, 1910.
Application filed December 10,1909. Serial No. 532,328.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRADFORD L. WIL- LIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Camden, in the county 'of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improve- Grease Removing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a handy device for removing stains, grease spots or the like from cloth or other fabrics; and in such connection it relates particularly to the constructive arrangement of the device, which upon wetting and then rubbing lightly over an article or fabric until a lather has been produced and evaporating or drying out then the lather upon the article, will cause the grease spot or stain to disappear.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of my present invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, in which- Figure 1, is a perspective view of a stain or grease removing device, embodying main features of my invention; and Fig. 2, is a vertical central section through the said device, showing the anchorage for the soapcake and the manner of securing the soapcake covering to the base block and housing of the device in an offset provided in the peripheral surface of the block of said device.
Referring to the drawings 3, is a block having an inwardly inclining top a, from the periphery toward the center whereat is provided anvanchor-post 4, to receive and hold a cake of stain removing, scouring or cleaning soap 5. This cake is arranged preferably with a convex-shaped face I), and an inwardly inclining bottom 0, toward the center, whereat is formed a recess or hollow 01, to fit the anchor-post 4, of the block 3, so that when the soap-cake 5, is fitted thereto, it is anchored against turning or displacement by the use of the device. In the peripheral. wall of the block 3, is provided an offset 0, extending entirely around the same, so as to receive and hold the end portion of a cloth or other fabric covering 6, when surrounding the soap-cake 5, in position and fitting down between the block 3 and a ring 7 forming a housing for parts of the device and the end fitted into the ofiset 6, and securely held therein by cement, glue or other adhesive substance against displacement in the rubbing actions of the face of the device over or upon a cloth or other article to have stains or grease spots removed therefrom, by wetting the covering of the soap-cake to produce a lather and then gently passing the device over the article to be scoured or cleansed. The housing 7 is preferably provided with a recess f, in the outer body thereof, tofit end portions of the fingers thereinto so as to be enabled to readily manipulate the device over the article to be cleansed or scoured or to have grease spots or stains removed therefrom.
. Having thus described the nature and obj ects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the character described, a block provided with an anchor-post projecting from the top thereof. a soap-cake fitting said post and engagingly held thereto, a housing for said block and a covering surrounding said soap-cake and the end portion securely fitted between said block and housing, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. In a device of the character described, a block provided with an anchor-post arranged centrally of the top and the surface of the top arranged incliningly from said post toward the periphery, a soap-cake arranged to fit said post and engagingly held to the top of said block against turning or displacement, a housing for said block and a cover ing surrounding said soap-cake and the end portion securely fitted between said block and housing, substantially as and for the purposes described.
3. In a device of the character described, a block provided with an anchor-post in the top arranged central thereof and the surface of the top arranged to incline toward the pcriphery, said block having an oflset in the peripheral surface, a soap-cake having in the bottom a central recess and said bottom inclining therefrom and having a convexshaped face, a housing surrounding said block, and a covering for said soap-cake, the end of which in the operative position of the device fitting between said block and housing 111g said soap-cake and fitting 4. In a device of the character described, a block provided with an. anchor-post arranged to extend from the top and having an off-set in the peripheral surface, a soapcake adapted to fit said post and engagingly seat With the top of said block, a housing enibracing vsaid block and a covering surroundbetween said block and housing and securelyheld'in the oflset of said block, substantially as and for 10 the purposes described.
