SHAVING APPLIANCE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EwALn PRAEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of BeXar and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Shaving Appliance. of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to shaving devices.

The object of the present invention is to provide a shaving device by means of which the bothers and annoyances usually attending the shaving operation can be largely avoided.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device by means of which the shaving cup can be kept at all times in an entirely sanitary condition and the shaving soap can be kept sweet and fresh.

A further object of the invention is to provide simple and convenient means for holding the shaving brush during the intervals of the shaving operation, and for the intervals between shaves.

With the foregoing'and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section, of a shaving cup provided with the improved device of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1, looking at it from the inside of the cup. Fig. 3 is aplan view of the improved device. Fig. 4- is a side elevation looking in the opposite direction to Fig. 2.

Like reference numerals indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.

In order to facilitate an understanding of the improvements of the present invention, they have been illustrated in connection with an ordinary form of shaving cup 1.

The reference numeral 2 indicates a soap plate which normally rests upon the bottom of the cup 1 as shown. The soap plate 2, preferably, although not essentially, is formed of sheet metal and is shaped with rounded corners 3 which cause it to fit Specification of Letters Patent.

snugly against the adjoining portion of the walls of the shaving cup and to occupy approximately half of the bottom thereof. The soap plate 2 is provided with soap holding means, which in the embodiment of invention illustrated, consists preferably of the integral prongs or points 4: which are stamped out of the metal and bent upward so as to project into the lower surface of the piece of soap indicated in Fig. 1 and thus hold it securely in position at one side of the bottom of the cup. During the shaving operation the shaving brush can be readily manipulated over and upon the soap so as to produce lather in an expeditious manner.

Connected in any suitable manner with the soap plate 2, is a lifting member 5 which in the embodiment of invention illustrated consists preferably of a strip of metal formed integrally with the plate 2 and bent into engagement therewith as indicated at 6. At its upper end the lifting member 5 is bent outwardly above the edge or rim of the cup 1 to form a platform 7. Extending along the opposite edges of. the platform 7 are the upwardly projecting clips, prongs or brush holding arms 8 which preferably although not essentially are formed integral with the platform 7. The prongs or re silient arms 8 can be pinched together or separated in order to cause them to receive different sizes of brushes and to hold the same yieldingly in position as indicated in Fig. 1 in which the numeral 9 indicates the shaving brush held in position upon the platform 7 by means of the arms or clips 8.

For the purpose of holding the device properly in position in the cup 1 and of permitting the soap plate 2 to be raised to any desired position and there held against movement, the device of the present invention preferably is provided with a yielding retaining member 10 which in the embodiment of invention illustrated is formed integrally with the outer portion of the platform 7 and consists of a tongue of metal bent down ward into engagement with the outer sur face of the cup 1, as shown.

In carrying out the shaving operation with the assistance of the device of the present invention, the soap is fitted upon the soap plate 2 and the device is arranged over the rim of the cup 1 so as to be in the position illustrated in Fig. 1. The shaving brush is then manipulated in the usual manner to produce the desired quantity of lat-her. During the intervals of the shaving operation when the razor is being manipulated, the shaving brush 9 can be held by the clips 8 in such position as not to fall upon the floor or become upset and soiled. lVhen the operation is concluded, the shaving cup and soap may be cleaned in a number of ways. The cup may be rinsed while the soap is in the position illustrated in Fig. 1 in which case the soap plate 2 and prongs at will effectually prevent the soap from being washed out of the cup during the rinsing operation. On the other hand the device may be lifted halfway out of the cup in which case the resilient retaining member will hold the soap in a position within the cup and about midway between the upper and lower portions thereof. The rinsing operation can thus be eifectually carried out to remove all of the lather from the cup. After the rinsing operation the soap can be permitted to remain in its elevated position, whereby free circulation of air around the interior of the entire cup is possible and the parts are caused to remain in an entirely sanitary condition. Finally if desired, the soap can be entirely removed from the shaving cup during. the rinsing operation and afterward replaced. During the intervals between shaves brush 9 can be held in position upon the platform of the shaving device by means of the clips 8, thereby allowing the brush to dry out sweet and clean, with the bristles remaining straight, whereas if the brush is allowed to dry in the cup itwill curl the bristles under the weight of the brush, making it inconvenient to lather.

It is found in practice that the device of the present invention relieves the shaving operation of a great many of its worries and bothers.

It Will be obvious from the drawings that the device of the present invention can be formed of a single blank of sheet metal stamped out in the proper shape and bent to produce the parts described. The device is therefore strong, simple, durable and inexpensive in construction as well as thoroughly practical and efficient in use.

hat is claimed as new is:

.1. A shaving device comprising a soap plate adapted normally to rest on the bottom of a shaving cup, prongs on said plate for holding the soap thereon, a lifting member connected with said plat-e and extending upward along the interior of the cup, a platform connected with the upper end of the lifting member, brush-holding means on said platform, and a resilient member extending downward from the outer edge of said platform and engaging the exterior of the cup to hold the device in position.

A shaving device comprising a sheet metal soap plate having integral prongs stamped therefrom and bent upward to hold the soap in position thereon, said plate being formed with rounded corners to con form to the adjacent portions of the cup, an integral lifting member extending upward from said soap plate and being bent outward at its upper end to form a platform, the edges of said platform being bent upward to form brush-engaging clips, and the outer edge of said platform being bent downward to form an integral engaging member which bears againstthe outer surface of the cup and is adapted to hold the shaving device in any position to which it has been adjusted within the cup.
