GEORGE QGARDINEENVILLIAM GARDINER, AND O. L. GABDINER, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 97 ,678, dated Dcember 7, 1869.
nnnrme a'rrnonmmvr FOR COOKING-STOVES.
' 1 The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and makingpart of the same.
Be it known iha't I, R. W. MYERS, of Glen Gardner" Station, in the county of Hunterdou, and State of New 'persey, have invented a new'and improved Heater-' Attachment for'Stoves; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled; in the art to niakeandnsethe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this snecin'catioii. i
This invention relates to an improved attachment for ranges and cooking and ;other stoves, for taking np-the heat 'givenoff from the tops of the'same, also,
from the. oven, to oonveyit to other rooms; also, for receiving the steams and odorsffi'om the cooking-vessels, to convey them to the fines, andprevent them frombeing given pfi to impregnate the atmosphere inthe house. h v
The said'invention consists of case, open at the bottom, and fitting the top of the stove, either'the whole or a part-capable of covering the pookingwessels, and provided with flu'es for conveying the heatgiven up to it from the stove, either to the rooms above, through registers, or to the smoke-flue, when conveying away the odors from cooking food.
Figure I is a sectional-elevation of one form of my a sheet or-cast-metal improved'attachment;
Figure 2 is a similar section, showing the application of avdrawe'r to cover the; front part of the stove, when drawn out, to serve as a shelf-to hold pans for hakinglin the case, if required;
Figure 3 is a section, showing the drawer extended over th front part'of the stove; an
Figtie a stove. c
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. I i A is a sheet-or cast-metal case, open at the bottom, and arranged, in respect to horizontal area, to cover the whole of the top of a stove or range, or it may be only of suflicieht size to cover from therear to the centre of the space between the front and rear holes, as represented in the drawings.
It is'provided with a flue, B, communicating with through registers, O, and with the 4 is a plan view of the heater as applied to.
smoke-flue D, also withvalves E F, to close the communication with either. l
Thiscase is intended mainly as a heater-attachment for heating'upper roomsby the surplus heat of cookstoves and ranges, but it maybe used also as an oven ovens may for-baking or other cooking, and it may be used also' for receiving the odors escaping from cooking food, to
convey them to the'smoke-flue, and prevent their escapeto the rooms.
The said case may whole ofv the stove, and have adoor, '1), at the top or sides, for placing the cooking-vessels on the stove or in the holes in the top of the same; or it maycover a part of the top only, as represented in the drawing, leaving the front holes exposed for access Without opening the case. I
When made in this way, a drawer, H, with a closed top, open bottom and rear, may be arranged to slide in and out ofthe front of the case, which, being drawn out to the front of the stove,'as represented in fig. 3, will receive and convey the heatof the front thereof to the case A. y i
The top of this drawer will serve a good purpose as a shelf or grate for supporting-pans for baking in the case A. v
G is a slide, which may be used to close the opening in the front of the case'A, for the drawer, in cases when it may be requiredflto'remove the drawer entirely for placing pots in theouter and inner holes.
With this improved att-aohm'ent the heat of the also, be utilized; for heating the rooms above, by placing suitable-tnbes'in the stove leading from the'ovens to the case, which tubes may have slides flor-other means for closing them, when the heat of the ovens is to be retained for baking. Having-thus described my invention, Y
I olainras new, and desire to secure by Letters PatenF-f.
1. A heater-attachment for stoves or ranges, adapted for receiving the heat from the top of the stove or' from the ovens, or the steams and odors from cookingvessels enclosed by it,and provided with pipes for conveying the heat to the'rooms'above, also provided with and valves,
asdescribed,for discharging the odors of cooking food pipes communicating with the smoke-flue to the said flue, all substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the case A, provided'with the front openings, of the drawer F and sl'ide'G, substantially as specified. 1
The above specification of myinvention signed by me, this 4th day of November, 1869.
