of is the provision of an article of the class to which this invention relates, by and in the use of which, garments may be support ed and also so folded upon the article that the same becomes a form to assist in maintaining the shape of the garments when the same are folded for the purpose of being packed away or otherwise.

In carrying out my invention, the improved garment support and form prefer-- ably comprises a frame, means connected to the frame and by which the same may be suspended, means for maintaining a garment in position when supported upon said frame, and means hinged in the sides of the frame and adapted to extend the frame laterally for supporting a garment thereon and to be turned over against the frame to determine a fold in a portion of a garment preparatory to packing the same,-as will be hereinafter more particularly described.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved combined garment support and form showing the same in its extended position with a coat supported thereon. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the combined garment support and form in its contracted position. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a portion of the article on an enlarged scale to more clearly indicate the manner in which the wing members are connected to the frame. Fig. 1 is an elevation, with the sides broken away, of the article embodying modifications of the invention, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view illustrating "the clamp members employed in connection with the support and form member.

allel to one another, a bottom member having portions 12 adjacent to the respective side members and a portion 13 offset from the portions 12 providing the intermediate portions 141, the purpose and function of which will be hereinafter described. The top of the frame preferably includes the curved portions 15 and a central U-shaped portion 16 to the sides of which a loop 17 is connected and to the portion 16 of the top of the frame there is also connected, preferably pivotally, a hook 18, by which the entire article may be suspended from a suitable support.

Connected to the side members 10 and 11, there are wing members 19; these wing members are preferably made of band metal and are of elongated U-shape in outline. The ends 21 of each wing member are turned at right angles thereto and the extremities 22 of each end member 21 are passed through an aperture or slot 23 provided in the side members 10 and 11 and turned over against the adjacent edge of the side members through which the same are passed so that each wing member 19 is hinged in and to a side member of the frame and is adapted to swing thereon through an angle of approximately 180. Approximately midway between the end members 21 of each of the wing members 19, I also employ a tension brace 2% preferably made of wire or other similar material, one end of which passes through an aperture in the side member of the frame and is looped around the adjacent portion thereon while the other member passes through an apcrture in the wing member 19 and is turned over on itself so as to insure its being maintained in the proper position.

By particular reference to Fig. 4, it will be seen that I may also employ an adjustable extension bottom member 25, the sides 26 of which pass through apertures therefor in the portions 12 of the bottom member of the frame and at their extremities are secured to a cross bar 27 which at its ends is made to slide in or upon the adjacent portions 10 and 11, so that the frame may be elongated to the extent of length of the sides 26 of the extension member, and as shown in Fig. 5, I may also employ a clamp or plurality of clamps indicated at 28, each of which preferably comprises a strip of resilient bar metal turned on itself to form a loop and having its free ends 29 turned toward each other in approximately semi-circles or otherwise for the purpose hereinafter set forth.

In the use of the hereinbefore described article, the wings are placed in the position shown in Fig. 1, and a garmentpreferably a coatplaced over the same so that the upper portions of the wing members extend into the armholes of the garment and the loop generally placed within the collar of the garment, passed over the loop 17 so that the garment is maintained in a central position upon the support and in which position it may be suspended from the hook 18 in any desired place for the purpose of being stored. Now when the article is to be used as a form for packing the garment or any desired purpose, the garment is placed thereon in the manner hereinbefore de scribed and buttoned and the wing members turned in from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2, wherein the portions let of the bottom member act as stops for the end members of the wings which de termine the extent of the movement thereof. In so doing, as will be understood, the sleeves and adjacent portions of the garment will be folded in by the inturning movement of the wings and the tail or lower portion of the garment may then be folded up over the bottom of the frame as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, whereupon one or more of the clamps 28 may be passed over the garment on the form so that the inturned ends 29 thereof overlap the side of the garment and the edge of the frame. It will also be understood that a pair of trousers or other garment may also be folded around the coat when placed upon the form as herein described, and in this instance also one or more of the clamp members 28 may be employed.

When it is desired to fold and pack a coat of more than ordinary length, such for instance as an overcoat, upon my improved support and form, the extension bottom 25 may be moved from the position shown in full lines Fig. l to that shown in dotted lines, whereupon as will be readily understood, the folded garment will come within the limits of the form. Also as shown in Fig. 4-, it will be understood that the top member of the frame may be made to extend straight across between the side members thereof, and further that the loop 17 may be made of resilient material in the form of an ellipse, so that if compressed to extend its length, the loop of a coat or other garment cannot slip off. It will also be understood that the length of the rods or braces 24 is such that when the wings are turned to the position shown in Fig. l, the sides thereof will be appreciably drawn in, so that in returning the wings to the position shown in Fig. 2, there will be more or less of an automatic movement imparted to the wings, due to the resilient action of the sides thereof returning to their normal positions.

I claim as my invention:

1. A combined garment support and form comprising a frame having side, bottom and top members and in the bottom member of which there are stops provided, means whereby the frame may be suspended, means for maintaining the garment in position when supported upon said frame, wings hinged in and to the said side members of the frame and adapted to extend the same laterally and to be swung over to lie against the said stops in the said bottom member of the frame and tension braces extending between the side members of the frame and the outer member of the said wings.

2. A combined garment support and form comprising a frame, having side, bottom and top members, and in the bottom member of which there are stops provided, a hook pivotally connected to the top member of said frame, a loop also connected to I the top member of said frame and wings hinged in and to the said side members of the frame and adapted to extend the same laterally and to be swung over to lie against the said stops in the said bottom member of the frame, and tension braces extending between the side members of the frame and the outer member of the said wings.

3. A combined garment support and form comprising a frame having'side, bottom and top members, and in the bottom member of which there are stops provided, a hook pivotally connected to the top member of the said frame, a loop also connected to the top member of said frame and wings hinged in and to the said side members of the frame and adapted to extend the same laterally and to be swung over to lie against the said stops in the said bottom member of the frame, tension braces extending between the side members of the frame and the outer member of the said wings, an extension member comprising bottom and side members passed through apertures provided therefor in the bottom member, and a cross bar extending between and slidable upon the adjacent portions of the side members of the frame.
