THEATER TICKET ENVBLOP AND ADVERTISING DEVIOE.

JOHN G. PATTON,
OI PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
THEATER-TICKET ENVELOP AND ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 23, 1909.
Patented Apr. 5, 1910.
Serial No. 519,168.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN G. PA'lTON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Theater-'licket l lnvelop and Advertising Device, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to devise a novel construction of a holder which is adapted to be employed to hold tickets or similar articles the device being constructed in such a manner that the diagram of a theater, steamer, railroad Pullman cars, football fields, time tables or any other desired matter may be placed thereon so that when the device is unfolded such diagram may be clearly seen, my device being also adapted to receive any desired advertising matter.
To the above ends my invention consists of the novel construction of a theater ticket envelop and advertising device which is con structed of a single blank which may be printed in one operation and is provided with a portion adapted to be folded over and secured to the adjoining part of the device to form an envelop, the remaining portion of the device being scored and perforated in such a manner that the differentparts thereof may be readily detached when desired.
My invention further consists of a novel construction of a theater ticket envelop and advertising device which consists of a blank of material of uniform thickness a portion of which is folded over and secured to the blank to form an envelop, the remaining portion of the elongated tab portion of the device being divided into sections which are perforated in order that they may be readily detached to serve as receipts or coupons if desired.
It further consists of other novel features of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawing one form thereof which I have found satisfactory, although it is to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the precise construction shown.
Figure 1 represents a rear plan view of a blank embodying my invention before one of the sections is folded over to form the envelop. Fig. 2 represents a front plan view of my invention after the envelop is formed.
Fig. 8 represents a section on line zvw Fig. 2. Fig. 4; represents a perspective view of my device in its folded comlition.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts .in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, 1. designates a blank of a shape necessary to produce my novel ticket holder and advertising device the same consisting of a strip of material of preferably uniform width and of any desired length, the same being divided into sections 2, 3, l 5 and (3, the section 2 being adapted to be folded over upon the section 3 and being provided at opposite edges with adhesive material 7, whereby when the section 2 is folded over upon the section 3 a pocket 8 will be formed as imlicated most clearly in F ig. 3, which is adapted to receive a ticket, coupon or other matter employed in connection with the holder. in order that the device may be readily folded intermediate the sections 3 and t the blank is preferably scored, as indicated at 9, and in order that the sections 5 and 6 may be readily detached if desired the perforations l0 and 11 are formed.
12 designates a perspective view showing the arrangement of seats in a theater so that when my novel theater ticket holder is open the user can readily see at a glance just the location of the seats which are adapted to be contained within the pocket 8, so that the purchaser may readily find or locate the seats which the ticket calls for. The reverse side of the sections 4, 5 and 6, as well as the reverse side of the section 3, which forms the top of the device when the same is folded, as seen in Fig. 1-, is adapted to reccive any desired advertising material. The section 2 is preferably of less length than the section 3 in order that when the envelop is formed a space will be formed between the free end of the section 2 and the line 9 on which the blank is adapted to be folded.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that by the employment of my novel construction of blank to form a ticket holder and advertising device there is no waste of material such as is present in cases in which the envelop is provided with side flaps and since I employ a blank of substantially the same width throughout its length, the same may be readily printed at one operation and thereby reduce the cost of placing the advertising material thereon.
The sections l, 5 and 6 may if desired be provided With data Which serve as a receipt or a coupon and owing to the provision of the perforations 10 and 11 and the score 9 the sections 4:, 5 and 6 may be readily detached from the rest of the device When desired.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a novel and useful construction of a theater ticket envelop and advertising device Which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and While I have in the present instance shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof Which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
It Will be apparent that in many cases arising in practice the perforations l0 and 11 may be entirely dispensed With and it is unnecessary in all cases to score the paper, but in many cases it is advantageous to weaken the paper at the places indicated by 9, 10 and 11 in order that the same may be the more readily folded. It will be further apparent that the number of sections such as 4, 5 and 6 employed will depend entirely upon the conditions arising in practice. It Will also be apparent that a large number of these ticket holders may be printed simultaneously.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a combined ticket holder and advertising device, consisting of a blank of material of uniform Width throughout its length When completed and separated into a plurality of sections by weakening the paper, one of the end sections being of less length than the adj oining section and secured to said adjoining section along its marginal edges, whereby an envelop is formed having one side of less Width than the other, said sections being of substantially the same dimensions as the outer face of the envelop, the inner face of said sections being adapted to receive a diagram showing the location of the seat called for by the ticket, and all of said sections being folded in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the blank.
