INNER GARMENT.
.Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 1s, 1909. sem No. 472,811.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEANNE WALTER Ar- PLETON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Inner Garment, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a garment adapted to be worn directly on the body, so
as to compress the latter and reduce the lateral contour thereof, while it may be worn with ease and comfort, it also impart- 7 ing shapeliness to the form and possessing all of the advantages of a corset and drawers without the employment of the same.
For the purpose of. explaining the invention, the accompanying drawing illustrates a satisfactory reduction of the same to prac-v tice, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific arrangement and organization shownand described.
Figure 1 represents a front view of a gar? resents a rear view thereof. Fig. 3 repreunderstood that the overlapping sections sents a vertical section thereof. Fig. 4 represents a side elevation thereof. Fig. 5 represents a front view of the body or upper member of a garment embodying my inven-' tion. Fig. 6 represents a front view of the legs or lower member of a garment embodying my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings :A desig nates the body of the garment, and'B desig-.- nates the legs thereof, said body and leg being formed of horizontallysarranged sepa-z rate pieces C of woven rubber elastic webbing overlapping at D, so as to close the.v joints between the pieces and connected by the stays E, Fon'the sides thereof to prevent separation thereof and opening of said joints without interferin sion and contraction o the material of which the garment is composed, it being need not be connected throu bout the length of their overlapped parts, ut only at the points where they are connected by the stays. The body A has a vertical opening, preferably in front, for convenience of application to and removal from the body of the wearer, and the legs B are vertically di.-"
vided, so as to render them easy of being put on and taken off. a
The body A and legs B are normally of less Width than the portion of the body of the wearer which they are intended to cover, so that they are necessarily expanded or stretched while being placed in position and thencontractwhen so placed, whereby they conform closely to the form of the wearer and compress the body and limbs thereof, this being for therapeutic purposes, for re ducing the lateral contour of said body and limbs and for imparting sha eliness to the form. Furthermore, the b0 y A serves as acorsetand the legs B as drawers, -thus avoiding the employment of a corset and drawers as such. i
While the garment is made of separate horizontally-extending pieces and their pieces yield with the greatest freedom with the motions of the body, and thus the garment may be worn with ease and comfort.
The front of the body A is provided with stays G and fastening devices H and the rear thereof with eyelets J and lacings K, for closing andadjusting purposes.
The legs B have vertical stays L on the inner sides thereof and straps M, the latter being adaptedrito pass around the limbs of the wearer, being provided with suitable fastenmgs so as .;'to* 'adjustably and securely close said legs when in position .on the wearer.
When it is desired to wear the body A and with the expanlegs B independent of each other, the garment is divided onthe line N, said body and legs then being separate of each other,
as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim. as new and desire to secure by Let- ,fters Patent, is
, 1. 'A garmentof the character stated formed .of separate pieces of rubber elastic material overlapped with the joints free to expand and contract, and means for suitably uniting the same. 2. A garment of the character stated comprising a body and legs continuous thereof, said members being formed of separate ieces of rubber elastic webbing, said pieces being adapted to overlap at their oints, means for connecting said ieces without interference with their abillty to expand Patented Dec. '7, 1909.
joints remain closed, as has been stated, said 3. A compose separable from eac arment of the character stated of an up r and a lower garment other and their adjacent (portions overlapped; each garment com- 5, pose their adjacent edges overlapge tical stays for connecting sa1 and verpleces, leavof separate rubber elastlcdpieces with JEANNE WALTER APPLETON.
