LLNIISIEIP'JIJXC CARD, TIGHT, AND PAGKAGIEVDELIVERENG CASE.
Specicationof Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1C, 1.909.
Application filed October 24, 1906. Serial No, 340,419.
To {Illa/)710m 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD SE. RUSSELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'lios Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Antiseptie Card, Ticket, and Pacilzage lleliveri'ng Case, of Which the following' is a specification.
It is of the objects of this invention to provide means wherebyv a person may carry and present business or other cards, tickets, packages ol chewing gum, and the like, without any liability or appearance of the same being soiled, untidy, unclean, or liable to cariv infection, so that the persons Who receive the cards, etc., maydo so with perfeet satisfaction that the saine are clean and aseptie; to so construct such device as to allow the cards, &c., to be readily and eonvcuiently' inserted, and to provide for the inva:i.-=ble projection of a single card or otlirr article at tlie will of the user.
Uther objects of the invention may appear from the subjoined detail description..
The invention may beembodicd in various lorins.
3l): ziewly-invential delivering' 'case is pro* vided with a chamber to receive a number of cards, tickets, thin packages or sheets, and with ine-ins for expelling said cards or the like, one by one from the orifice in a Wall of the case. Various means may be providei'l l'or bringing' the card or the like to be expelled, into appropriate position for its expulsion.. l have employed a resilient means for keepingl the cards, &c., advaz'iced, and I have employed rnliber-tipped points and steel points lor operating' on the cards and the like. i therefore do not propose to limit the invention to a specific construction ol parts, but l. shall illustrate the invention in the forni lY at present deem meier-able.
'l`lie aocoinpanyiiig drawings illustrz'itc the invention:----y Figure l is a perspective view .of a cardase embodying the invention., parts being broken away to expose inlerior construction. Fig. 2 is an axial section ot" the saine. Fig. il is a cross-section on line r, Figs. l. and 2.
l designates a ense having.: an opening preferably in the iorin ol a slit 2 at one end lfor the ejection ol articles sueltas cards, slabs ol chewing-goin, ear tickets, and .the like; said opening is preferably in the end. wall Il ol' the case.
4 is a slot extending along;r the top Wall 5 of the casev at right angles to the slit 2. The end 6 of the case opposite the end wall 3, is open and provided with a chamber-ed closure 7 which may be hinged at 8 to the case, the chamber 9 of which closure opens ii'iwardly and may be provided with a permeable cover 10 to retain an antiseptic material 11 in said chamber, allowing the emanations from the same to enter chamber 12 oi the case.
13 is a guide strip Which may be in the form of av thin resilient sheet fastened to a wall of the case near the open end 6 thereof and extending aslant toward the opening or slit 2 the slope of said guide throughout the' greater distance from the open end of the case toward the slitted end of the case is slight when the guide is free, and said guide is provided with an abruptly-bent portion '14, extending toward the opening 2 so that articles superimposed updn each other inside the chamber 12 of the case may overlap each other; the uppermost `ones being allowed to slip along upon each other toward the openingP or slit 2 through which they are eventuallgT to be ejected. i l
Means are rovided movable alone; the slotted Wall, tie same being` operableufrom outside the case and adapted to engage the card or other article inside the case to eject the same through the opening 2. Said means may comprise a pivoted meniberi mounted to slide along the slot 4. and provided outside the case with a corrugated thumb-piece 16, and inside the case with ak finger 17 provided With an engaging point 18 which may be in the forni of a sharp point to prick into the card, or may be of any suitable form for engaging the article which is to be ejected through the opening'.
A pivot 19 may be carried by au inside plate 2() fastened to an outside plate 21 by screws or rivets 22 which pass through the slot Li. 'lhc inside plate 2O may be embossed, as shown at 23, the embossnient being approximately of a Width and thickness to fit the sides of the slot and hold the plates 2() and 21 appropriately apart on the opposite sides of the top Wall 5. rlhe'pivot 19 may be carried by' boss 223, which boss has an` opening 24 through which thcthuinb-piece projects. 'l
lin practical use, to4 insert the cards or other articles into the ease, the closure '7 will be opened and the cards or other articles insorted. lhen the closure containiirs,r anti- Jol septic will be closed, whereupon the case is ready for use. When the user desires to l present or deliver a card or other article, he
' the cards or other articles are ejected, whereupon the case will be replenished as before described. When la card has been moved outward, the user will draw his thumb back l to retract the external thumb-piece and its carrier, the slide 21 and other'parts attached thereto. 'The force thus a )plied partly rotates vrthe thumb-piece bac rward and thus lifts the internal ejector-point 1S free from the article tobe ejected, so that the rearward movements do not mar the article to bee'ected.
vrV hat I claim isf- 1.' A,A delivery-case comprising a bottom,
two sides extending upwardly from the bot-y tom, an, end extending upwardly from the bottoni and connecting the sides, a top connecting 'the sides and leaving a deliveryopening at the upper edge of the end, there being a longitudinal slot -in the top; a plate under the top; a second plate above the top, screws connecting the two plates through the slot and forming a' slide, a linger in the slot and projecting through the sliding` plates, and a pivot through the linger and carried by the sliding plates.
2. yA delivery-case comprising a bottom,
'two sides extending upwardly from the bottom, an end extending upwardly from the bottom and connecting thc sides, a top connecting the sides and leaving a deliveryopening at the upper edge ol" the end, there being a longitudinal slot in the top; a plate under the top; second plate above the top,
screws connecting the two plates through the slot and forming a slide, a linger in the slot and projecting through the sliding plates, a pivot through the linger and carried by the sliding plates; an inclined guide leading from the bottom to the delivery-operling, and means carried by the linger for engaging the articles to be ejected.
3. A delivery-cose comprising a bottom,
t vo sides extending upwardly from the bottom, an end extending upwardly from the bottom and connecting the sides, a top con necting the sides and leaving a dcliveryopening at the upper edge of the cnd, there being a longitudinal slot in the top; a plate under the top; a second plate above the top, screws connectingthe two plates through the slot and forming a slide, a linger in the slot and projecting through the sliding )lates 5 an inclined guide leading from the bottom to the delivery-opening, means carried by the finger for engaging the articles to be ejected, a chambered closure hinged in the open end, an antiseptic in the chamber ot' the cl'osu're, and a permeable wall for the closure.
ln testimony whereof, l have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles California this 18th day .of October 1906.
EDWARD E. RUSSELL. In presence of JAMES R. Townsnnn, M. BEULAII 'lowN SEND.
