Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3,
Application filed November 6. i908. Serial No. 161,350.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that L Osoiin ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Velvet, in the county of li lollenry and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag-Holders. of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in tagdiolders and it is more particularly to be applied to perishable articles or to articles that are to be delivered in a local territory such as a town or city, but they may however be attached to articles that are to be delivered to any distance.
()ne of the principal objects of my invention is to construct the tag holder which will not only erry the tag, but will also carry an envelop containing a message or a bill of luding. So far as 1 am aware, this iceture is entirely new as heretofore tag holders have only been provided with mom for carrying the tag. It is very important in a great many instances that the supposed receiver of the express package should have the bill of: hiding and it is in these cases that my improvement will be very useful.
By referring to the drawings enddescription hereto annexed, the invention will be more fully understood, the numerous parts he'hig designated by reference characters.
In the drawing Figure 1 is :1 plan View of the device showing the side or face to which the message is attached. Fig. 2 is also it similar view showing the side or face of the device which carries the tag and Fig. 3
.is a perspective view of the device.
Let the numeral 5 designate the holder in its entirety, 6 the body of the holder and 7 t' is extension having formed therein an on fice 8 by which the holder is secured or attached to the article to be delivered.
The body 6 is provided. with extensions 9, 10, 12, which are bentupwerdly as shown at 13 and le and then bent over upon the body (3 as shown at 15, 16 and 17. These members 9, end 12 are not bent down so as to touch the body 6, but only enough to leave a space or groove 18 which is of the same width us the portion 14 of the flange. The lower edges of the extensions 9 and 12 are inclined as shown at 19 and 20 so as to make a close fit with the inclined edges 21 of the extension 10 when the letter has been bent as described. The upper edge of the member 12 is provided with a long, narrow strip or extension 22 which lies in the some 1 l l l l l I plane as the members 9, 10 and 12' and is disposed longitudinally of the body 6 with its extremity 23 tern'iineting in the body 6 at 24. The edge ot the body 6 and the member 22 form an elongated opening 26 through which the message or envelop 2'? is inserted and withdrawn. The opening 26 and the groove 18 formed by the extensions 9, lOend "2 constitute a pocket for the reception of the message 2?, the message or envelop supposed to be of 9. else which will fit in this pocket as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The member-22 is provided with spring clips 28 which hold the message in place, these clips ext-ending at rightengles or approximately so to the member" and holding the said message from displacement by means of tensioii.
lhe body 6 has punched therefrom tronsrersely disposed clips 29 which are arranged in the same plane and are bent. outwardly or rearwordly from the body 6. That is, they are bent rearwardly when I refer to the "face message of the holder as the front of the device. The body 6 has also punched therefromclips 30 which are longitudinally disposed and arranged at right angles to the clips 29. These clips are also bent rearwardly. The clips 30 and 29 are adopted to receive and hold the tag 31 as shown in Fig.2 of the drawing, the tag being inserted or removed from the right hand end of the tag holder, or in other words, in order to insert the tag, it is first placed under the clips 29 and pushed along the body 6 until it reaches the clips 36. Where these clips 29 and 30 may be sutllcient in the majority of cases to prevent the displacement of the tag 31, yet to avoid any possible chance of the tag being displaced, particularly where the article is to be delivered at some distant point, the body 6 ma. safety clip which is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of t drawing.
Attention is called to the tact that the article herein described is composed of an integral piece of material such as tin or sheet metal, this however may be varied as the construction need not necessarily be integral. Theclips or securing means may also be of any desired shape and formed from any port of the body of the holder. 1 therefore claim,- not only the construction herein shown, but any modifications thereof which come within thescope of the claims.
What I claim is:
be provided with a tangular body portion having marginal exl. A. tag holder, comprising a continuous rectangular body portion, an extension formed on one end thereof having anopening therein through which the attaching means may be passed, marginal extensions on the body portion formed on two sides and part of the third side thereof and means integral with one of said extensions extending along and parallel to theedge of the fourth side but spaced therefrom, said means and the marginal extensions providing a pocket for the reception of a tag.
2. As an article of manufacture, a tag holder comprising a body portion having marginal extensions, transversely disposed clips integral with one of said extensions, and transversely and longitudinally disposed clips integral with the body portion.
3. In a tag holder, a body port on having marginal extensions and transversely dis posed clips integral with the body portion and transversely disposed clips integral with one of said extensions.
4. As an improved article of manufacture, a tag holder consisting of a continuous rec tensions constitutin a }Cl (.l' for the Trece tion of a message, and one of said. extensions formed with clips, and additional clips integral with said continuous rectangular, body portion said clips being arranged near the outer edge of the body portion and extendi ing across the face thereof in close contact therewith.
As an improved article of manufacture, a tag holder consisting of a continuous rectangular body portion having upon one side marginal extensions forming a message holder and upon the opposite side integral clips for holding a tag said clips being arranged near the outer edge of the body portion and extending across the face thereof in close contact therewith.
6. Atag holder, comprising a continuous rectangular body portion having an extension formed on one end thereof with an opening formed therein through which the attaching means may be passed, marginal extensions formed on two sides and part of the third side of the body portion and means integral with one of said extensions extending along and parallel to the edge of the fourth side but spaced therefrom, said means and the marginal extensions providing a pocket for the reception of a tag, said body portion having integral clips struck therefrom. said clips extending transversely and longitudinally across the face of the body portion and being so spaced apart as to permit of a tag being inserted therebetween and held in. position by their springing engagement with the tag.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature, in presence of two Witnesses OSCAR- ANDERSON. Witnesses J. MoKxnnrr, F. W. KINNAIN.
