To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PERRY M. STEVENS, a citlzen of the United States, residing at Greenwood, in the county of Clark and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in harness, more especially appliances or at tachments therefor, where the breeching, trace, girth and back straps intersect or cross each other.

The invention has for its object to permit of the requisite movement of the parts named without abrasion or wearing of the leather, and to retain the parts in relative posltion.

It also has for its object to carry out these ends in a simple, ready and effective manner.

The invention therefore consists of certain structural features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claim.

In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a broken side elevation thereof. Fig. 2 is a sectional view produced on the line 2--2, Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 1 are views in side elevation of the whiflie-tree-end connection for the trace and breech-strap connection, respectively.

In carrying out my invention, I provide a carrier or bearer 1, composed of two assembled keepers 2 and 3, arranged side by side and riveted or bolted together at their ends as at d, the preferably larger keeper 2 being adapted to receive the trace or strap 5, while the outer or smaller keeper 3 receives the breeching-strap 6 the breeching strap and trace thus being separated, it will be noted, from each other, by the dividing plate or partition 7 between said keepers. This arrangement, it will be seen, separates or prevents contact between said breeching strap and trace, and therefore will prevent abrasion or wearing action therebetween from the movement imparted thereto by the horse or animal on which the same may be used. The keeper 1 has at its upper and lower ends loops 8 and 9, the loop 8 providing for connection therewith of a frame 10 connecting with the back strap 11, while the loop 9 effects connection with the frame 12 having the girth strap attached thereto. The end walls of the keeper 3, which are preferably formed of blocks of wood, or other light material 13 have their inner surfaces formed upon coinciding inclines to conform to the position of the corresponding surfaces or edges of the breeching strap, as clearly seen in dotted lines 14 Fig. l. The keeper 2 has its end walls formed in like manner of blocks of wood 13 or a light material, which blocks have their inner surfaces rounded as at 16, as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1, to reduce friction and wear to the minimum, between the same and the corresponding edges of the trace.

Upon the trace or strap 6, are secured at suitable points stops 17, having their inner edges preferably rounded, as indicated in Fig. 1, said stops being adapted for engage ment with the central portion or partition 7 between the keepers 2 and 3, in order to limit the play of the parts relatively to each other resulting from the horse motion.

It will be noted that the keepers 2 and 3 instead of being constructed as above do? scribed, may be cast in a single piece, together with the loops 8 and 9, the first referred to construction however, being preferable for lightness and ready application in use. As already stated, it will be seen that by means of this arrangement of parts, the same may be very readily censtructed and applied at the minimum expense, and applied for use in connection with any type of harness.

In Figs. 3 and 4 are disclosed different forms of clips 18 and 19 for application at the whifiietree attaching end of the trace and breechingstrap connection. Any other form, however, of attaching means for the trace at these points, may also be employed in lieu of the foregoing.

I claim:
