Be itl known that ROBERT RUDLAND Bonn, a subject of Great Britain, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Repair Attachment for Piano-Hammer Heads, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention is an improvement of means for repairing the felted heads of pianohammers, patented to me May 19, 1908, by Letters-Patent of the United States, No. 888141.

The object of this invention is to provide an attachment which will absolutely prevent the possibility of slipping or loosening in any way or direction whatever, yet at the same time being so easy of adjustment that it may be readily removed or readjusted at pleasure.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.

Figure 1 is a view on an enlarged scale of a repair-strip constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a section of the same on line :v2-aat, Fig. 1. The repair-strip 1 is provided at its ends with pairs of pointed ngers 2, 3, to engage the hammer-head felt 4. Said repair-strip 1 may be of any suitable stuff, as a thin strip of felt or a thin strip of any other soft flexible and strong material. rllhe same is 0f a width and length sufficient to cover the felted portion l of the hammer-head 5. At each end of the strip 1 there is provided a binder formed of a loop-like sheet-metal body 6 provided with detents 7 which may be projecting pointed tongues as shown in the drawings; the body being bent on the end of the strip and the detents inserted through the strip and then bent over upon the body 6, the whole being tightly pressed together and on the strip to form thereon a metal tip in the form of a loop.

In the eye of each loop is mounted a U- shaped fastening wire having a middle limb 8 and two fingers 2, 3; the limb 8 being clamped by the body G. The fingers project practically at right angles to the body 6 and terminate in inwardly-directed points 9 that project toward each other. The fingers 2, 3 are approximately parallel with each other and form extensions from the ends of the body G, and the tips 9 of the fastening wire are pointed and inwardly bent toward each other so that in applying the attachment to a worn hammer-head the fingers 2, 3 may be spread apart to bring a terminal of the hammer-head felt between the points 9 thereof, whereupon the points may be forced into the felt either by the resiliency of the wire or by external pressure. Then the strip is brought around the top of the hammer-head and the fastening wire at the other end of the strip is attached to the other terminal of the felt in the manner just described, care being taken to adjust the strip smoothly and draw it tightly on the hammer-head felt.

The strip may be removed by a reverse operation, and may be replaced at will and with great ease and facility.

claim 1. A repair attachment for felted piano hammer-heads which consists in a flexible strip and pairs of pointed fingers fastened to the ends of said strip, the points of said fingers being inwardly directed to enter the terminals of the hammer-head felt.

2. A repair attachment for felted piano hammer-heads comprising a flexible strip provided at each end with binders that form loops and attaching wires in said binders, each wire comprising a middle portion held by the binder, and pointed fingers, the points of which are inwardly directed to engage the terminals of the hammenhead felt.

3. lln a repair attachment for felted piano hammer-heads, the combination with a flexible strip, of a wire formed with two parallel fingers, a middle limb and inwardly-directed points, and a sheet-metal loop bent upon the limb and the end of the strip and provided with tangs inserted through the strip and bent upon the sheet-metal loop.
